It was a fun swap with lots of great ideas. I'm thinking Florida Four needs to host another one and we can try some of the new techniques :)

I was so confused when I first watched the video with the scoring insert on the paper cutter. I've never seen that before...very nifty...may have to put that on my Christmas list! I score with a ruler and butter knife like this but a gadget would be fun too:-)

Thanks to everyone for coming to celebrate Al and Jo's anniversary and my birthday. My husband and I were remarking this morning about how much fun it was! I appreciated the opportunity to "get my carve on" and plant some boxes for people to find.

Thanks to BoxerLover47 for bring the surprise "gift", and for Al and Jo for their lovely hostess gift and for coming to Utah to visit!

Most excellent evening. :)

Trains! When I was in Laurens for most of last summer, we drove to the Hudson Valley, visited the awesome Mohonk Mountain House, camped outside of Red Hook, and took the train to the city for one day. Armed with our subway map, we got ourselves around very nicely. I wish I'd gotten on the Staten Island ferry and gotten a close-up look at Lady Liberty, but instead went with my relatives to Governor's Island, which I don't really recommend, if you only have one day.

My experience with the NY subway system was pretty great, in comparison with the DC Metro, which I used quite a bit before going to NY. New York's signage and ticket machines were pretty user-friendly, unlike those in the capital. After Sandy, I was trying to picture those tunnels filled with water and it cramped my brain.

In August we watched the Barclays golf tournament on tv, which was played at Liberty National Golf Club, in New Jersey. There were many beautiful sweeping views of New York Harbor and the statue, which the announcers were misinformed about (as far as I can tell with a little online research; the NPS should have it right) and kept saying Liberty Island is actually in New Jersey.

Boar's Head Festival Returns (along with a new box)

Hi,

I posted this on the Great Lakes Letterboxing site, but also wanted to get it out on AQ........

Once again, our church is presenting the Boar's Head Festival--a wonderful way to celebrate the Christmas season. And also, once again, we will be hiding a letterbox that can be found on the days of the performances. Those days are Saturday, 12/14 and Sunday, 12/15.

See our church website for a full description of the festival: http://www.stjohnforestpark.org/upcoming_events

Clues for the letterbox will be posted closer to the event. It will have the words "Boar's Head Festival" somewhere in the box name and will be listed in Forest Park, IL.

We look forward to seeing you there!

New to LTC's...a couple of questions re:Paint and Printer

I just participated in my first LTC swap and had a couple of questions.

I live in a rural area and so I don't have much in the way of inkpads but I can easily get my hands on acrylic craft paint at the local dollar store. I used this on my LTC in place of ink and wonder now if that is okay?

Also, I'm still working on my letter carving (still pretty sad looking at this point) but I felt the LTC really needed words so I printed that on my computer.

Are these practices okay for LTC's? Would it be best to disclose this in my LTC clue/synopsis?

I'm glad to see that it wasn't ALL the city. Sometimes I think the city and upstate New York should be considered two separate states....

Yeah, I think it is. But let's face it--if I used that photo on a New Jersey theme, I'd get a lot of flak over it! But I liked that picture too much not to use! =)

OK and OK and not necessary to disclose :)

You can use whatever mediums and embellishments that you want. The only real rules to LTCs are the size and the use of a hand-carved stamp :)

Welcome to the LTC addiction!

Thanks! I just wanted to be sure...I felt a little guilty when I received all ink stamped images and one that was a fully carved quote - carved quite expertly by Trilla Marion (still blown away by that LTC!)

Happy cake day!! I need to go check on the Mysteary box since it's one of my highest rated and if I ever get another BotW, it'll likely be for that one :)

Hmmmm... better check before you get hoping. I seem to think mystery boxes are not eligible for BOTW.

Nah, it's fine. From what I've read a box needs to have:
  • Been found recently
  • A clue
  • No restrictions

How is the Box of the Week selected?

Out of all my boxes, I'd love to have one of the tribute ones go BotW :)

BotW mysteries. :)

Mysteries may be a very small percentage of total boxes overall, but comparatively, they make up a very good number of the BotWs. The extra clue writing effort counts. :)

Sooo...in trying to think of creative ways to raise money for our hosting fees for Markuss, I thought, would you letterboxers be interested in donating $5 to vote for what color my hair should be at the Christmas Boxing Nationwide event AND having each vote be entered to win a letterboxing gift basket with a minimum $50 value?

You could vote for green, red, half green/half red, something other ridiculously embarrassing color. LOL. What do you think? Would this be something fun in which you might participate, or is it a silly idea?

But I'd really like to get one of the paper cutters that has a scoring insert thing.

I love my Martha Stewart scoring board. I think I'd rather have the Stampin Up one with the markers but I had the Martha Stewart one first. I think the Martha Stewart board runs $19.99 at Michael's and of course you can use a coupon. I was just at Michael's the other day and I saw they now carry a smaller version but didn't happen to notice the price other than the fact that it was cheaper than the larger board. It was just the right size for cards. A scoring board is one of those items that you can do without until you use one and then you really need it more than you could have ever imagined.

I agree, the mysteries are usually the most fun to find and are the the best stamps and locations. Definitely should be a higher percentage when it comes to BotW!

After living all my life in upstate New York, 12 years ago I moved to San Francisco Bay area. I enjoyed seeing the page. Sadly, I didn't find letterboxing until I moved here... doh.... look at all I missed!!!!! Did go back a few years ago and got some boxes in the area, and left them an apple letterbox (of course!!!!)
