I think I'm going to have to plan to bring some extra Redbull/coffee/energy drinks. I have a feeling this is going to be a nonstop letterboxing party weekend :)!

Bakeries can often do the edible photo paper.

If that doesn't work, you can try an Acetone Transfer.

I'm here to help!

I agree... it is not the worst thing in the world. I would rather it, than relationship and health problems. I have learned... these are far worse. I do wish you the best.... hugs. Maybe another opinion and see if there is another way, but dont let it get you down. Just do your best. Things will get better.

Those are great ideas, Fiddleheads. Show them how to make their simple carves SHINE with neat techniques, embossing or glitter or smooch sprays, inking with different markers, cut out and layer, etc.
15 min carving instruction
30 min to carve (maybe have some images they can trace)
15 to 30 min break
15 min show them neat ideas for their carves, some instruction
30 make LTCs, logbook covers or cards from their stamps.

I'd say that's just further evidence. Santa does eat tons of cookies!!

That evidence doesn't hold up. Those cookies are gingerbread, not bacon.

Just to clarify, this class is not going to be targeted at children; it will be through the local college's non-credit arm, and will likely have more adults than kids. It's up to me whether children are allowed at all, and if so, how old they must be.
I am going to discuss papercrafting, embellishing, etc. as well. But I'm not going to be doing anything a crafty kid of reasonable age couldn't keep up with.

Stamping Feet Over A Stamp
COFFEE SHOP | COPENHAGEN, DENMARK | BIZARRE, FOOD & DRINK
(I work at a chain coffee shop. We have a deal where you pay for ten coffees beforehand, to get them at a lower price. Each time a customer orders a coffee, we mark their card with a stamp.)

Me: "Hi, what can get for you today?"

Customer: "A cappuccino to-go."

(She hands me her card, I stamp it, and hand it back to her.)

Customer: "Y-you can't be serious."

Me: "Excuse me?"

Customer: "This can't be true!"

Me: "What seems to be the problem?"

Customer: "This stamp! It's looks terrible!"

Me: "I'm sorry, ma'am, I guess it could use some new ink. They do tend to vary in size, from what I've seen before."

Customer: "This is so unprofessional! I cannot believe you would actually do this to me! I want to see your manager!"

Me: "I'm afraid my manager is not in today, but feel free to write her an email about your complaint, or come in tomorrow."

Customer: "I WILL! Someone needs to put a stop to this outrage!"

Me: "I'm very sorry, ma'am. Would you still like your coffee?"

Customer: "No! I am never buying coffee here again! I am going to have you fired for this! Now take off my stamp!"

I saw one kiosk box, where the box was hidden way up under the roof.

I think that this is the best idea. You can design it so that it looks like it belongs, and seals well. If you leave even a small hole then wasps will find it and build a nest in there. I'm thinking of a small drawer that is secured by a nail that is easy to remove.

But if someone has pictures of ones that have already been built then go with those designs. Something that works is better than some neat idea, unless you can make the neat idea work too.

We had a geocaching event last night, another full moon event. We went and found some nearby geocaches in the dark, so we had plenty of time to talk. One of the geocachers is on the verge of becoming a letterboxer too. He doesn't feel confident enough to carve his own stamps though. He buys stamps or has an image professionally made into a stamp. The latter would be preferred, but I'd still like to convince him to try carving his own stamps.

I'm posting this to the Utah boards because if he comes into letterboxing, the Utah letterboxers will be the first to find his boxes. He likes that he can hide letterboxes close to geocaches and other letterboxes because he's got some good places that are too close to hide another geocache. Next time I see him at an event I'll try to convince him to come to a letterboxing event so that you can convince him to carve.

Any other ideas?

Proud of you for making that first step.

I have gotten Weight Watcher's active link and am being more active.

Today I went boxing and walked 4 miles so I have finally earned my 100 mile NC path tag after 3 years. My total for the day was 7 activity points.

We bought a solid mahogany door at Southeastern Salvage a couple years ago that my hubby stained and varnished. Carpenter bees drilled into 3 different areas of the door and frame the week we installed it. It's not pressure treated but I'm surprised they didn't mind the chemicals. Maybe that's why they never finished...they were poisoned by the finish...that any I was using them for batting practice.

I've got some ideas but it really depends immensely on the kind of kiosk he is intending to build.

I remember a box I did once in Elizabeth City NC...on an existing kiosk for the Chamber of Commerce. This one was four sided, about 6 feet square...had bulletin boards for listing events, brochures, etc. Right in the heart of the downtown waterfront. Couldn't have been less discreet. The base of it stood on on 4 posts. The base of it was about 2 1/2 feet off the ground and you couldn't see the underside even while perched on the nearby benches. I called the box The Tourist.

I ended up building and installing a wooden "depository" on the underside of the structure. Inside the depository was a "suitcase" style wooden box with a firm, fixed handle that protruded perfectly out of the depository. I think the suitcase was about 6" x 4" x 2". The concept was simple, reach under the center of one side of the kiosk, find the handle, and pull it out. Replacing it was the same thing...just stick it back under the kiosk and slide it back into place. I even made the "depository" opening bigger than the suitcase, and tapered it (funneled) back to the opening, so if you weren't quite centered when you put the suitcase back under there, it would self-center as it was slid into the depository for a tight precise fit.

Among my greatest early letterboxing moments was installing it in broad daylight. Dressed in maintenance worker apparel and hauling a bag of tools to get it done...bang, bang, a couple of screws later and I was outta there. It worked precisely as I had designed. I loved to read the comments from the finders. Unfortunately, it didn't last long.

You can imagine my dismay when I found that the suitcase was gone. I think this was my first letterbox to be compromised. I was crushed, but thinking about it now, I guess it really set me up for the thought that all letterboxes are temporary anyway.

The luxury he has is that he can design and build an easy structure that has a secret hidey hole. Wood, holes, and insects will always be an issue. Perhaps large tapered wooden plugs with a gasket material might solve that. Expansion and contraction issues are a challenge there. Another idea is to embed clues in/on the structure that lead to a cache nearby.

Neat idea.

What kind of markers do you all use for multiple colors? I have seen more and more stamps where multiple-colors would look awesome, just too fine of lines for my ink pads.

Thanks!
