It's snowing here in NC near the VA line and school is closed here also. Not sure how many virtuals will get done. But I'll have fun trying.

Rain, rain, all the time rain! My son went to bed in full snow bringing regalia (inside out and backward pjs, spoon under the pillow, silly spinning dace etc.) but alas, we awoke to rain. I guess when you live in the deep south, you should just give up on snow! But a kid can dream!!

Quote Do you announce it and if people are interested in getting that particular stamp they sign up?

Yes you can do that. Or you can just post the tracker and sit in amazement at how fast it fills up on it's own. Many people have their preferences set so that they get a notification any time a new tracker is listed. The only time I announce one on the boards is if it has special instructions.
I also keep what I call my "Second String" list. It is a running list of people who didn't make the first tracker for one of my postals. Invariably, I get requests after the trackers are full, so I keep track and send them out again once they come home the first (or second!) time.

Introducing Jacque De La Roe

Hello, my name is Jacque De La Roe. I am a hunble gentleman from the fine country of France. I have traveled to your country for a reason. That being, as all of you well know, my country things of you are warriors. My country doesn't care much for Americans because of the way you think, the way you go on with life. Since the war in Iraq had began, my country had taken your offer for support in the war and through it back in your faces. In return, you show your innorance by renaming foods in attempt to hurt our feeling. Freedom fries, freedom toast, freedom dipped rolls. How mature!

So i am here in the states to show my country, that you are not all about hate and war. I am hear to find out about your past. To find history about how your counrty came to be, the hardships you endored, and the ways you over came those hardships. For the next year, I will be in your country, and when the year is over, I will return home and send my report to the government in hopes to allow them to warm up to your American ways.

My first stop is Little Rock, AR
Little Rock just so happens to be located in the center of a state called Arkansas. Now, even though some Spanish fellow beat us to the area in 1541, Little Rock, or La Petite Roche, was named by a Frenchman named Bernard de la Harpe in 1722. An area largely populated by Native people called the Quapaws. These people would eventually be forced out to surrounding areas for the access to the Arkansas River and its land. In 1812, a settler named William Lewis became the first white settler to locate to Little Rock. 7 years later, Little Rock became the capital of the Arkansas Territory, and then 17 years after that, Arkansas became the 25th state.

Being a slave state at the time, the state found its self a confederate state in the Civil War in 1861, with action during the Brooks-Baxter War, in Little Rock, in 1864. After the war, there was still so tension with blacks for years to come. In 1957, some unwanted attention was brought to the area when, Arkansas Governor Orval E. Faubus and the Arkansas National Guard tried to stop the integration of a local high school. The President got wind of the goings on and sent trrops to the area to protect those who needed it. To this day, marks can be found all through the landscape, but better times did come.

It really wasn't until, William Jefferson Clinton was elected as your President in 1992, that the focus of the city, turned more towards the birthblace of a president, than a location of past conflicts. Mr Clinton had also become the youngest Governor in state's history prior to his presidency. But he too had to stick his nose into Iraq, but for a diffenent reason I suppose. This president of yours would help bring light to a tunnel, that the city needed, never once forgetting his roots. Accepting the presidency on the steps of the Old State House in 1992, and celebrating his reelection in 1996 on its balcony.

I have now decided to move on to another area of the country. It seems that Little Rock, was a little bit of a dissappointment to me, but it is not me you need to impress. It is a beautiful city, that has gone through its ups and downs. May I wish this fair city a goodbye.

-Jacque De La Roe

The weatherman said that we've had snow for the past 22 days straight. While I'm grumbling with my shovel, I just keep thinking that if it was summer, we'd have had 22 straight days of rain! I'll take the snow! :)

Whoa! I was NOT ready for that picture! But I do hope he's successful in this new endeavor ... I have said from the beginning that the actors from HP are going to have a tough time breaking free from those roles. Even though we love the HP films, there are only two more to come after July. It's good to know they want to continue sharing their talent on other projects.

Looking forward to July 13 at the drive in,

Our snow has stopped and we are getting sleet now. The schools are staying at a two hour delay, but I made a parental decision to keep my son home today. Boy, was he happy. I have to go to work at noon for an hour and if they let schools out early, the only person that could pick him up would be my daughter and her week old baby. Not going to chance the three of them getting hurt. My son is an AB student, so he can make up his work rather quick. I was just shocked that they didn't close the school with the snow, sleet and it almost at freezing. Bridges and stuff are already slick. Oh, well. I made my parental decision and sticking to it. (smile)

I see my original post has generated a lot of talk about this subject. Let me say I was not trying to be critical of anyone. I just should have clarified my reasons for responding to the board in the first place (which I must say I have never done before). I wanted to try and give frustrated PLBer's some perspective, and let them know that I have felt the same as they do...but that this is a wonderful hobby and has its risks (as someone else pointed out). I was not speaking as an authority or for other boxers.

I guess I should have also explained that these are my suggestions based on my viewpoint. I know there are boxers who can handle the # of rings they join. I guess I just know that I would not be able to handle a lot. I did not mention any specific # of rings as being to many by the way. I just know how many I can handle now that I have had some starting to crossover in time periods.

In my original post I had this paragraph:
Remember that when you join a ring you are making a committment to a group of people much like yourself, who have a passion for the theme and love to share with others. Also like yourself, they have busy lives, other committments, and are counting on every member of the to follow postal ring ethics. (logging finds, notification of problems to ring leader, and sending postals on in a timely fashion (determined by the ring leader)

I just want to highlight that I know EVERYONE has a busy life and life is hectic. I was trying to give the frustrated boxer a reality check...I understand your frustration but don't let it interfer with your life or love of this hobby.

And as someone else responded (it just takes honesty and good communication to keep the frustrating moments to a minimum)

Sorry again if the first post sounded critical or all knowing, which certainly was not the intent.

Quote You'll find a very large sector of the population plopped in front of their televisions eating casual party food (like potato chips, hamburgers, and beer) and yelling at the TV.

Yeah, that pretty much describes our house! :) Except there won't be as much yelling since the Seahawks aren't in the Super Bowl.

However, at our house, standard Super Bowl fare is Buffalo Chicken Dip. YUM, YUM, YUM!!!!

OK, I just have to go on record saying I hate this. I hate being lumped into a basket with everyone else because we share common borders. Personally, I cheered France for declining support for Bush, and rolled my eyes in disgust when people began renaming their french fries ... I too thought it was childish. But, I also think it is childish to assume that I agree with everything America does politically just because I'm an American. Just as I think it is ridiculous to assume that every French citizen is arrogant or egotistical, as the sterotype would have me believe. I applaud your efforts to understand, but I really don't think you needed to come all the way here for an American history lesson, or to discover that not all Americans fit the American stereotype. I honestly hope you find what you're looking for, and more than that, I hope you enjoy the journey.

Peace and fair winds,

The Creative Memories Storybook is great. I am a CM consultant and I made one for a christmas present and had two copies done. The program is a free download from the website, www.creativememories.com , or you can go to the CM photo Center site www.cmphotocenter.com. This is the site you would upload your finished book to as well.

Our schools are closed because it's supposed to snow, but we haven't seen the first flake!! The forecast has changed from 3-5 inches to 1-2 inches. The radar on weather.com is rather peculiar looking - it looks like it's snowing/raining everywhere but here....... I bet there are some school officials who are saying "darn it". But this is only the second day of school we have missed this year.

I'm wondering if we have time to run a few errands....... (maybe find a letterbox...... ;-))
