I'm not familiar with LiveCycle, but almost every program I'm familiar with that can run calculations usually uses the asterisk (*) to represent multiplication. I'd give that a try if you haven't already.

I don't think the equation itself is meaningful but it looked like multiplication. I just Googled "livecycle equation" or something like that.

I got it.
I decided it was in my equation. I had 27 lines of addition, then this total to be multiplied by a variable rate to form my total figure. I forgot to put parentheses around all the addition calculations prior to multiplying with the variable.
Basic fifth grade math, duh. Thanks again.

I was taking a look at GT's Create a Website tutorial to see if it would be useful for a Girl Scout I know and noticed his recommendations for paid hosting plans. I shared some of my experiences with him but thought I'd post it here as well, in case any of you are looking for a host.

My husband uses iPower for his club website (which I help him with) and we have routinely had issues where the CSS will not be updated after you FTP it for about 10-15 minutes! This is extremely frustrating, especially before you figure out that it's happening again because you think your changes are not working. Then you do something to rule it out like change the color of one of your styles and see that it has no affect until you go eat lunch and the come back and finally your text is blue or whatever you did. I seem to recall having the same issue where they were not serving up a Javascript library that I had changed. The HTML pages always are current, but the files they reference are not. The price has also definitely gone way up.

I recommend Hostmonster to all my clients, which is actually the same company as BlueHost. Their cpanel is exactly the same and very easy to use. Their customer support, however, is the best I have ever used and they even speak English! Unlimited space and multiple domains supported at no extra charge. The link to them on my page takes you to discounted rate, often 4.95 but sometimes 3.95.

Anyway, I thought I'd share that because I've been very happy with them. I used to have my account there, then moved it to GoDaddy when year 2 was much more expensive (but normal), but GoDaddy required a premium plan for all my subdomains and parked domains, so it didn't end up to be any cheaper. I also HATE GoDaddy because their admin functions are lame and disconnected. Customer service is not good, and I'm sick of looking at Danika Patrick. (You may not be, but I decided that I'm not going to support sex-in-marketing techniques anymore.)

I hope that's useful to someone out there.

I use byet host. Sometimes the letters are run together, byethost. They have excellent, english speaking customer service, available 24/7 through their website. They have free hosting plans, which I started out using, and the cheapie paid plan is only now gone up to $45/year. (It's been $36 for several years in a row.) Also they take care of domain name registration and renewal for me when I renew with them each year, so I don't have to worry about that for as long as I stay with them. The control panel is easy to use and pretty intuitive.

I ran into something weird that I don't completely understand and am wondering if anyone out there has an inkling...

So I have a hosting account for my own business and host a bunch of subdomains (for my clients). I was checking on things and realized that I probably still have some link juice going to my old home page (index.htm) which has been renamed to index.html.

So I altered my (main site) .htaccess file, as follows, with the last line.

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.integritivity\.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.integritivity.com/$1 [R=301,L]
ErrorDocument 404 http://integritivity.com/notfound.html
Redirect 301 /index.htm http://www.integritivity.com/index.html

After checking some other stuff and putting www rewrite rules into some old clients' .htaccess files that didn't have them, I discovered that I had somehow broken two of my subdomains.

The rest of them, however, were just fine. I spent hours trying to find the differences.
www.thefoundationagency.com, for instance, has a RewriteEngine off and works just fine.
www.mattressprosstl.com has rewrite rules similar to the above and it works fine, too.

After giving up on the idea that the .htaccess files on the subdomains had anything to do with it, I decided to go back to the main .htaccess file and see if any of my changes to it had caused the issues.

As it turns out, that last line I added (Redirect 301) was it. (I had added some other page redirects too, but they are irrelevant.) AHA, the only two broken sites were old ones that still have .htm extensions. All my newer ones use .html (or .php). One of the sites that had "broken" had it's own index.htm for the home page. So it was being redirected back to my main site. OK, that makes sense (now). The other one has a default.htm (I took this one over from someone else). So I'm not really sure why that one had an issue.

My guess is that it's because maybe the host reads it as default.htm but treats it as index.htm?

QUESTION TWO
So given that I found the problem line (and toggled it on and off to make sure), I thought I'd fix it.
I changed the faulty line to
Redirect 301 http://www.integritivity.com/index.htm http://www.integritivity.com/index.html
since I really do want to save that link juice.
This change did not break anything.
However, if I try to go to http://www.integritivity.com/index.htm, I get notfound instead of the .html version!

So it must be the syntax of including an entire URL in the 301 line, yet I don't know what it is.

Any ideas? Ready for a margarita? Ya, me, too.

I'm looking to set up a small website specifically for distributing clues for a letterboxing event almost a year away. I have two questions linked to this

(1) where would you send me for free or cheap web hosting? My needs for storage space and bandwidth are likely gonna be sub-minimal....

(2) I used some very basic html tags in my ancient (and long since defunct) GeoCities website, but I'm comfortable with the thought of learning more, given the right instructional materials. I would appreciate any suggestions for resource materials

I like wix.com I haven't done a lot with it, but it's easy to use. You don't need html for it either. It has tons of templates and goodies and ways to add on extras without it.

do you know if you CAN use html, if (let's pretend) you saw something on another page and wanted to steal it... uh, I mean borrow... and so you already had the original html to work from....

Look to HTML5 if you're digging in now for the long haul.

Free blog sites (e.g., Blogger) let you publish posts (chronological entries) and pages (fixed entries). Usually, they provide simple customization tools and include HTML views so you can see the code for posts and pages you're working on.

As an alternative, a text editor and a kind friend with a hosting plan could be all you need to launch a basic site. Good luck.

I started setting up my Wix site last night. Haven't got things ironed out yet... I probably just have to be patient and maybe watch some of the how-to videos that go with....

I'm coding a site using mostly html and php/MySQL. Most of it works. Some of it used to work and doesn't work now. I'm tearing my head out. Is there anyone out there who speaks these languages well, is willing to let me send them my files and description of what I want the site to do, and make it work? I've had a Ralph Spoilsport Motors website for years, but I hadn't done anything with it for most of those years, basically coz I didn't like the design interface that allowed you to modify your pages... things just seemed awkward and limited.

A few months ago I started a Wix site for another purpose, and liked that so much that I decided to create a RSM site with Wix to replace the other one....

The Wix site has a blog attached to it, and I've replaced a similarly unused RSM blog at another site with the Wix blog as being "My Blog" here at AQ.

My question is: I would like to allow replies to my blog entries but don't see anything that explicitly deals with this. There is a category of "Blog Tools," but none of them seem to be what I'm looking for.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I thinking about starting a multi-vendor marketplace, like my favorite, esty. I am eyeing both themeforest and dokan. Any comments or advice, or suggestions? As anyone here used these template companies? Any and all info or advice or suggestions would be really helpful. I am NOT, on any level, a computer inclined person. So I am trying to access this webpage because my dojang is going to buy the domain from the guy and I'd like to save the pages first w/o having to connect to his hosting account.

However, I can't get to it because of a 403 Forbidden error. However, I can get to it from my phone and the dojang office computer, so it has something to do with my ISP/router. I went into my router settings and turned off all parental controls. I also reset to the default DNS because I had it set to OpenDNS. And restarted the router. I still can't get to it. I can at least get the cached version of the home page from Google, but I need to get to each subpage as well.

Suggestions? DNS is not my area of expertise.

I found the answer myself. That website blocks requests with an anonymous proxy. I am using an ISP assigned IP address and I guess there is no proxy. So I went to https://hide.me/en/proxy
and proceeded from there. Interesting.

After a 4-year hiatus from Letterboxing (and the AtlasQuest site) I wandered on back and updated the site theme I left half-finished.

I think maybe it could use some more little animated gifs and icons, but it would take a lot of figuring how to replace current icons and buttons. At least it's pretty functional now! Let me know if I broke any part of the site for anybody, it's 2am.

Hi I am trying to add a popup subscription to my wordpress page. I am using the hustle plugin. Everything looks great until I go to the page its not actually popping up. Can anyone give me advice on what I am doing wrong?
