Oh! I so wish that discount existed a few months ago! We stayed there a while ago and loved it. It would be a great place for letterboxes.

No, no one here letterboxes and the armed guards all over the place have dissuaded me from planting anything while living here. That and the fact that if anyone finds it, it will probably be blown up by the bomb squads. Ha!

So my sister's kids and mine hit three towns in 3 1/2 hours. Freeport is drive-by candy gathering at the stores. We go because we know the candy is safe and if its really yucky out - we can quit and go home feeling like good parents : )

Next stop was my brothers neighborhood in Brunswick. The wind was down and the kids started to loose steam... to think - they had to actually had to go to doors and knock or ring doorbells and say Trick-or-Treat? Freeport made them think Trick-otTreating is an easy task. So for the next hour we kept yelling - "Stay out of the road! Ring the doorbell! Yes, you have to walk all the way to their front door! Don't forget to say thank-you! And yes it is hard work getting candy... but these houses are 5 feet apart, when we were growing up we had to walk 3 miles from island to island to get our stuff. And at each house we had to check in with our parents via the party line!" Okay - so maybe that was a bit of a stretch - but the neighbors did call home and let everyone on the island know where we were at any point in the night.

Then off to Topsham for decoration viewing, mostly. By the time we get to my other brother's neighborhood it is relatively picked clean of candy... but instead we get a distraught mother that has managed to loose her 11 year old son in the melay. She's on the phone with her mother asking if she should call the police??? Hello!!!!! Hell Yes! So we get the details and break up looking for an 11 year old dressed in black - sure make it easy on us??? - Colleen goes off with the mother following a herd of 30+ kids in one direction. Ron heads off for the decorated houses, Dave and I had kid detail... until the unmarked police cruiser drifted by. We chased it down and tapped on the window and reported what was going on.... When I told him he was dressed in black his responce was "Well, damn."

To make a long story shorter - Ron found the boy and told him "Your mother is NOT impressed." I took him back to his mom, tracked down the cruiser to report the boy found and then started walking back to my family with Colleen. We were half way back when we walked past what we thought was an empty car. A man was sitting inside and started talking on his cellphone just as we walked by. Scared the daylights out of us!

All I can say is - thankfully its now the 1st of November! Here's hoping the rest of you had less excitement for your trick-or-treating last night!

In following up, I've been introducing some aspects of letterboxing with adults. Previously I've been only doing it with kiddos but lately I've been sharing my stamps and my log book treasures with adult inpatient residents with schizophrenia. From time to time I get some down time in my job and so I'll carve stamps. I have one individual who enjoys watching me carve. With adults it's mostly a conversation starter, but even just the art of letterboxing has been therapeutic in the sense that it's engaging them in social conversation instead of leaving them to talk to their voices all day long.
Getting park permission

I want to place my first letterbox in a nearby park in worcester. I figured I should call up the parks department and ask if that would be ok. Well I called up but the lady seems to not really know anything about letterboxes so i had to very briefly tell her what one is. At first she thought it said "litterbox" haha, thanks fat lip. But she suggested i write to the assistant commissioner for the parks department.

Now, I am in no way eloquent in writing, in fact I hate writing, really bad at it.
Exactly what should i be writing in the letter? Aside from wanting to put a letterbox in a park and where in the park. Also, should i provide a pic of the location? Guessing also a brief description of letterboxing as well? I'm really terrible at explaining things as well.

There used to be a letterbox in the park but it doesnt look like its been there since sometime in 2010, per logs on lbna. There is also currently a geocache in the park as well. Though i dont know if either had official permission.

I figure its better to ask about it than place one and have it removed for various reasons.

I run an 18-bed inpatient residential/crisis program for children aged 3-13. Each summer the last three years I have hidden twenty stamps throughout our property (about 28 acres) for the children to find as part of a school elective during the five weeks of summer classes. I find the children may struggled greatly throughout the school days, but I have not yet heard of a child who did not make themselves available for hunting for that day's letterbox :) Great therapy!!

Vote for the OMS track project @ www.powerabrightfuture.com and also by texting clorox7836 to 44144. (To search for us, look for Twin Falls, ID in the location, we're the only one.) Our track is pretty miserable, and we've spent the entire year raising money to redo it. To date we've raised just over $5,000-- which is no small feet from a bunch of 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Our entire school (students, parents and staff) are throwing everything we can at raising the money. If we win--- well, our road just got chopped in half. :)

Currently our project has 1,113 votes. We are 103 out of 1,656 projects. We need to be in the top three to receive money, so please vote. Everyone who is 13 and over can vote once via computer and once via text.

Thanks for reading & thanks for voting for our school if you do.

CLOSING ST LOUIS COUNTY PARKS

There was an article in the STL Post Dispatch this A.M. that Charlie Dooley (county chief-in-charge) is proposing to close many STL county parks due to a budget shortfall. Many fantastic letterboxes are hidden in those parks. It would be a big blow to hikers, bikers, nature lovers, etc. also.

County park closures
Board: State: Missouri

Saw on the front cover of today's Post some of the STL County parks have beien recommended to be closed. Parks mentioned in the article are Lone Elk, Winter, and Fort Bellefontaine. I noted some letterboxes are located in two of them. There was also a map listing 17 other possible closures. Sioux Passage, McDonnell, Greensfelder, Love, Simpson and Unger were others I believe have boxes. The article pointed out that the buzz could also be just a tactic used to gain support for a tax hike. Either way, we might need to keep watch of the situation and perhaps be ready to pull boxes should they really close.

It's hard to see all of the little snowflakes in this image but every circle was carved with a Staedtler 1v gouge or a miniaturized gouge from Stampeaz. Really hard to tell, but his mouth was several little circles strung together to create the smile. Sadly, this guy is believed to be missing after only 2 finds.

Good morning y'all.
I have seen people use this format to let boxers know of opportunities. I hope this isn't out of line but..
I have listed large samples of leather pieces on eBay if anyone has an interest. 30" x 30".

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320782288191

I also have about 100 smaller pieces about 11 x 14. ( Some smaller and larger) unlisted as of yet.

There are many colors and styles of leather. They make great logbooks or other craft items.
If you have an interest, let me know before you bid and we'll chat.
