This seems kind of like a long shot since I'm not aware of any letterboxers in this part of the country, but I got the following message:

I am hosting a letterboxing event at our Reserve next month and am looking for a local speaker. Can you suggest anyone from south MS or AL? I am developing a mystery box for our Reserve and would like to launch the event with a miniworkshop on how to letterbox.

Any volunteers out there? =)

Are they paying travel/lodging expenses?
If so, I might be able to waive my usual speaking fee. Or at least reduce it by a few six-packs.

Probably not, but I'm not sure making you the speaker would be a good idea. We don't want them to cancel the whole letterboxing project that they want to get going! ;o)

All I know is that she put a request on the Big List about a week ago, looking for "an experienced letterboxer to come speak at a workshop on letterboxing." She's from the MS Dept of Marine Resources (according to her post).

No plants and no finds

Those stamps on the "journal example" are finds.... a long way from Mississippi, though.

ONe of the things I really like about Box Radar for my Droid. It pulls box clues from both sites.

Check your preferences to be sure you are pulling from both. Then, when you look at the box list, the ones with the orange icon are listed lbna. If a box is linked from VA to lbna it will show only VA. If a box has been separately listed on both you will see both listings as well as boxes that are listed only on lbna. I have to turn the darn thing off when imp driving down the highway unless i've got the time to stop. Otherwise it pains me to watch the blue dot pass all those icons.

Which of you Mississippi letterboxers is closest to Kosciusko? I'm planning on carving a stamp that will need to get planted there, but I won't be there myself any time soon.

We are probably the closest if no one else has replied by now. We are planning on going after your three new MS boxes soon. So we could place your plant when we do that. Or we could go back later in the spring.

Well, I haven't actually carved the stamp yet -- and I've got at least a half dozen other stamps in the pipeline that I need to carve pretty soon. So, unless there's a rush, it could be a month or so before this stamp is ready. But knowing there's someone willing to plant, I'll go ahead and get started on it. Keep me informed of your schedule.

Natchez Trace

Well, it turns out the last message on this board was from me! Not much action in Mississippi, I guess. Anyhow, for clarity: The Kosciusko stamp has been carved, planted, and found at least once already. This message is about another project!

I have just carved a stamp that needs to be planted along the Natchez Trace -- anywhere along the Natchez Trace. Unfortunately, I live in Florida and dunno when I'll travel that lovely road again. Yes, this stamp could go in Tennessee or Alabama as well, but I think Mississippi is hurting for letterboxes so I thought I'd give your state first crack at it. Also, somehow I think it'd be more appropriate near Natchez, MS, perhaps even right at the start of the Trace.

So, anyone up for it? If so, send me a shipping address via AQ-mail.

I was planting a letterbox at the Desoto Welcome center on I-55 south, and stumbled (almost literally) across an empty lock-n-lock for a letterbox. I picked up the box and planted mine. I couldn't find a box listed, and the letterbox doesn't have a name on it, but there is an image of a dove and heart in green ink. I can send the box to the owner if they contact me.

Yes, it's my box! I'm so excited. I have contacted the letterboxer and am hoping to get the stamp again. If so, I will have to replant this box when I return to Mississippi again from Michigan.

Well, maybe around New Orleans, or north to Memphis. We are in North Alabama, but I think there are some active folks around Mobile. Glad to see someone active in Miss. Welcome.

Welcome to Mississippi! As far as I know, there aren't any active boxer's in your area. I am originally from Vicksburg, but now live in Texas. I know there are boxer's who travel through the state and leave boxes sometimes. Maybe with you there things will change! I have an active box South of Vicksburg, at least It was still there the last time someone looked for it. Hope you can stamp in it one ay!

Happy Boxing!

Hi! My husband and I are letterboxers. We just got married November 12, 2014, so we still live in two separate locations. I'm out of Slidell, La. and he is out of Picayune, Ms. and we are planning to take a trip up through Hattiesburg to Jackson and then to Vicksburg. We plan to hit several along our route. Welcome to the area and we look forward to seeing plants in the future.

Is anyone familiar with Bz? He (or she) has a box in Ridgeland, MS called Freedom Ridge. We found this box on our trip from CT and, somehow the box stamp got confused with the HH stamp and came home with us. I have tried to contact Bz but have had no response. I would very much like to send his box stamp back but I need a snail mail address to do so. Can anyone help? I'd appreciate a note to jmbridgman@snet.net if anyone can.
