You laugh, but when I was growing up in San Diego County, we thought anything north of LA was northern. No joke.

Well, yes, that's the mentality I was kind of making fun of. Geography lessons, anyone?

And the other sad part is that only about 1/3 of the stamps I've sent to people have ever been planted. Bummer. Some of those were really nice stamps!

*raising guilt-ridden hand* you sent me that nice horse on orange PZ in return for the state stamp I sent you...and it's still sitting on my desk. I'm still looking for a place to put it that 1) I can hike to and 2) is worthy of the wonderful image. Lately I've had to do my looking between classes, homework, and time spent fighting off the ickies brought on by the germs I keep getting exposed to at school.

I will get it planted though...some day...Actually I have an idea or two, but it definitely won't be until summer...

Yes, it is sad, but people often volunteer for more than they end up doing. It's happened to me the other way as well: I have planned a series, gotten people to commit to sending a donation, and then it never arrives...

Whether you use a stamp for that purpose, part of a different stamp, a secret message, a patch, a comic strip, a feather...it doesn't matter.

A Quisp by Any Other Name - I like it! Thanks to all for some edja-ma-ka-shun on this!

I actually had the privilege of returning a postal HH this past week, and it really was a pleasure. I had received it perhaps a couple of months ago. When I tried to contact the boxer to whom it belonged, I didn't hear anything right away, so just kept it safe & sound. Turns out they just haven't been able to be as active in boxing in this phase of family life as when it was released. They were pleased to hear of its status and I was only to happy to return it.

The few quisps that I've made were carved as quisps for a certain season or occasion so I could have something to put under an address label (everything I mail to lbers has one - unless they angered me). Once that time passed the quisp takes a new identity as a hitchhiker.

still have a couple looking for the right place kirbert. In fact they are going on a trip with me, just in case that right place shows up. all is not lost. But I can't speak for those I've passed on some of your stamps to, if they planted them or not.

Yeah watch out for MoWizLiz & her address labels. She recycles blog posts from Survivor (or something) into scrap paper to write addresses on. I once got one, had no idea what it was but someone REALLY didn't like so & so! Luckily I have a good sense of humor & didn't mind the swearing it was one heck of a unique quisp! :)

I have one that I found a while ago and between the stamp and the log book it's really big! I have yet to find a box big enough to put it in around here.....I will think twice before trying to move along one of this size again.

Most of mine have been carved specifically to be a quisp. A few have been used for LTC's as well.

I have heard wonderful things about the Vagabond. It is supposed to cut through anything.

I have a Big shot and I love it. I find it perfect for me and it work well with many different dies/embossing folders. I got it on sale for about sixty bucks on Joanne's website. They often run 40 percent of dies and cutting machines.

Happy shopping!

I feel honored that my picture was used for this theme. The funny thing about this picture was it was a quick shot I took sitting on a busy road at a stop light in my car, out my window and had to zoom in to not get the lights and powerlines in the picture.

Geography lessons, anyone?

It wasn't geography, it was the amount of time. It was because everything was so close that we didn't need to go any further than LA. Back when I lived in Cali, everything was so close that I could do just about anything I wanted within 20 minutes of my home, and I didn't live in town... I lived up the mountain! Driving to LA (almost 2 hours) was an overnighter, for sure. It's not that I didn't make it farther north... my grandparents lived in Lompoc and we went there at least once a year, but that was a week-long trip. We also went all the way up to Crater Lake in Oregon when I was 11 or 12, but I remember being on that trip and thinking to myself that it took longer to get there than it did to get to Missouri. The problem was, that when you're a kid, you're thinking of how long it takes to get there, not how much you've seen. If I still lived in Cali, I doubt I'd still consider northern Cali to be anything beyond LA. I'd be more interested in seeing the state again. No, it had absolutely nothing to do with geography, it had to do with age.

These days, it's nothing for me to drive to Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, etc. on a day trip. These days I go down to Silver Dollar City (45 minutes to an hour) while daughter is in school and I'm back home before the bus gets back.
