I'm hosting my first event next month, and it has grown to 60 people plus a waiting list. There is no way I could be doing it alone! They aren't listed as hosts, but I have people who are part of the set up and clean up crew and a boxing friend who is going to help me plant all the nearby boxes the day before, and she's not even attending the event!
I have found out that people will offer to help carve boxes and to see what else they can do to help. This is a wonderful community indeed!

Right now the notifications only go to the event creator (or maybe owner, never tested that actually). Any chance of making that so all listed admins can get them or at least can choose to receive them or not?

I am looking now for a recipe for Taco Tuesday. I don't want anything with taco shells. I want something like rice or pasta taco bake. Like a tex mex pie.

Snakes? Spiders? Other poisonous stuff?

Hey all! I was lucky in Oregon because there are very, very few poisonous critters and the noxious plants were easily recognizable. I know there are a lot more letterboxing hazards I need to be aware of both for finding and planting around here. Do y'all have any hints or tips for me?

Do yourself a favor and become real clear on what poison ivy looks like and when you aren't sure, best to stay away. If you find lots of information that doesn't seem to match, it's because poison ivy can be different in different areas of the country. It can be a bush some places and a vine in others (we have both in SW Missouri and am assuming so does NE Oklahoma). They are always leaves of 3. "Leaves of 3, leave them be but if it's hairy, it's a berry." Took me years to figure out they meant the leaves are hairy for a berry bush... poison ivy vines look like they have hairy feelers. In the winter if you see hairy vines, stay away... the urishiol (sp?) is present even during winter. If you think you've been exposed, wash the area not once, not twice, but 3 times to be safe. You may still break out in that area but if you wash right away, you won't spread the urishiol to other parts of your body. A common misconception is that poison ivy is contatious but it is not. The "contagious" part of poison ivy is when someone touches someone or something with the infected part of their body and they didn't wash the urishiol off. As long as you get it washed off, you cannot infect other parts of your body or other people. Wash your clothes 3 times alone to be sure, too. Urishiol can hang out on clothing fibers for a year! My sister has gotten a poison ivy breakout by wearing washed clothing that she only washed twice.
That said, it's always possible you aren't allergic. 80% of the population is allergic to poison ivy but 20% of the population is not. Best to be safe than sorry. If you are feeling really brave, go cut yourself a poison ivy plant and rub it on your hand. :D

Last month I read a few books:
If Nobody Speaks of Remarkable Things- very interesting book alternating chapters between the events of one day and the time after that day for one individual. Builds slowly and then packs a punch.
The Death of Ivan Ilyich- my first experience with Tolstoy, and gave me a lot to think about it terms of death and suffering.
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao- gritty and superstitious and heartbreaking.
I'm Not the New Me- one woman's journey of weight loss. I'm still not sure if I liked it, but it was honest.
Buzz: A Year of Paying Attention- a memoir of a mother and her son and their experience of ADHD and finding treatment. As a mental health professional, some of her information was dated, but I give her an A for effort.
The Robber Bride- One of the better novels by Margaret Attwood, I think.
Cannery Row- Steinbeck's character study of a collection of individuals living near a cannery. Charming.
Sometimes I Feel Like a Nut: Essays and Observations- Not as funny as I wanted it to be.
We got a lot of snow this month- hence the inordinate amount of reading! I use Shelfari and Librarything to catalog my books. I used to be a member of goodreads, but I couldn't do all three and goodreads was my least favorite.
