No problem! The cartridges are normally so expensive, I refuse to buy them unless there is a GREAT sale and even then, I look at the images very critically to see if they will be versatile and usefull for letterboxing purposes. This one was just too good not to share with you guys.

I rate sporatically and I think that effects how your rating is counted *Shrug* I mean to say I only rate a box if I was really wow-ed or it really sucked - otherwise I don't rate at all.

Your ratings won't count if you rate sporadically. Check the quality of your vote her: http://www.atlasquest.com/boxes/traditional/ratingstats.html

I agree that the cartridge prices are ridiculous. Although I did see that Walmart has a line of "lite" cartridges that are $40.

Have your heard of Make the Cut Software? You can turn any image or font into a diecut using your cricut machine. No need to buy cartridges ever again. There is another one too, but the name escapes me at the moment. I am seriously considering buying it. I think it is around $70. Which is less than the full price cost of a cartridge. They have a free demo so you can play around with it before you buy it. I liked it from the little I played around with it. I looked into Cricut's Design Studio but it only works with the cartridges you already have.

I was out hiking in southern Ohio last week with my sister and her 21 year old granddaughter, Katie.
The trail behind Ash Cave is loaded with mushrooms.
We had seen at least six different varities, including rare Peace Pipes

So Katie and I started doing: badgerbadgerbadger....mushroom mushroom!

Later on, somehow the conversation turned to coffee.

Meet & Greet during GenCon Indy 2010?

Team Awesome Pants and I were talking about a low-key meet & greet for those attending GenCon this year. I have never been to the event, but I am curious. We are scouting locations outside the Con for a mini-meet. I am partial to the Indiana Historical Society along the canal. By then there may be a series of letterboxes planted as well (get busy, TAP!).

GenCon is Aug 5-8, 2010.

I can't wait to see it!! It might also make an excellent FF prize for cemetery boxes. I'm planning to plant another cemetery box in my little hometown in Sept when I get out there. I haven't been there in almost 15 years.

I have what I am sure is a REALLY stupid question. How do you use a Cricut to make LTC's? I have never used one and have seen and heard lots of talk about them. Could someone explain how they use them. Just curious, to hear your comments and see if it's something I should look into for making LTC's. Thanks :)

How do you use a Cricut to make LTC's?

If you have the Plaintin Schoolbook cartridge, it will cut the cards out for you. You just set the rectangle to 3.5 inches and it is the right size.

You can also use it for embellishments for your LTCs.

I'm familiar with the National Park Passport Cancellation stamps. I just came across this message board and wonder, has anyone contacted or considered contacting the National Parks to inquire about leaving a hand carved stamp along side their custom made passport cancellation stamp?

I know boxes aren't allowed in N.P., however, if the stamp is just sitting in the gift shop on the counter -- perhaps not even asking . . . just making one and leaving it there?

Tuna. Use tuna. I have a cat that has been on meds her whole life, so she takes pills pretty well. But recently we have had to put her on interferon - which has to be mixed in saline, so it is really salty, and we were having a heck of a time getting her to take it. A friend suggested putting it on a salty fish - like tuna - so she thought it was a treat. The vet said that was fine if we only give her about a tablespoon a night, and make sure the tuna is canned in water, not oil.

Works like a charm. Now she comes running the second we shake the pill bottle because she knows she's going to get tuna.

Give your kitty her meds, and then give her just a small amount of tuna right after and she will associate taking her meds with a good experience, not a bad one.

You also may want to check into a product called Rescue Remedy. I get it at Whole Foods and it is a mild sedative that you can give your animals (it goes in their water) for things like lightning, or new animals coming in to the home, or moving.

Good luck!

You can use them to make LTC's in several ways. You can cut cards with them with the right cartridge; but, I use it to cut neat shapes to stamp on...

Example: Cut a traditional card 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. Use the cricut to cut heart shapes (larger than your stamp size) glue the hearts on the card and stamp on the heart.

or

Example: Stamp image is of She-Ra riding a winged horse. Cut card stock (printed with blue clouds) down to LTC size. Stamp image on card. Use cricut to cut out small suns. Glue suns in top left corner of card. Trim edges of sun to fit card.

or

Example: Make a storybook card of "The Little Prince" cut teeny, tiny letters of "The Little Prince" and painstakingly glue each letter on. This was for a small swap and was a PAIN. The cards looked AWESOME when done; but, I would only ever do this for a very small swap or single card.

Really the possibilities are endless. You are only limited by your own imagination....or what you can find on the web (which is a favorite place of mine to go to when I have no new ideas)

The "eraser" carve I saw looked in good shape... by the feel I can see where if it were exposed to severe weather conditions it might get a "dry rot" kinda condition to it, but it seems to me if its protected and not abused it could last quite awhile!

I'm working with the "pink stuff" at the moment and am having a blast working with it!! I realize though that the 2 tips that came with my kit leave me a bit limited. I'm going to definitely invest in some more varied-size tips.
