I think, especially with lettering, we all tend to want our product to be perfect. But, these are hand-carved stamps, are they not?

Cut yourself a little slack and do the best you can. All those 'imperfections' like the thickness not uniform, or the dots missing for the letter I only add to the character of the hand-carved stamp. I have said it before, but it bears repeating: if I wanted a perfect stamp, I'd drive to my local craft store and buy one.

just my opinion,

Thank you, Rachel. Ha ha, Am wondering now if I had planned on sending this in a private Email to you, since I addressed it to you. Funny, looking back on it, now. Anyway, it is warming up today, and the ice is finally starting to melt. I got out yesterday to go to the PO, silly me, it wasn't open, Sunday. Ton of ice and snow to remove from the van. Shoveled the driveway too. 3 days indoors was about all I could handle. ;-) Thanks for the compliment on my doggie, her name is Dusty. She was my Uncle's dog and she was passed down when he passed away last March. She's a corker, for sure and know she gave him a lot of pleasure, as she has for us.

Good day to you and all reading this too.

Further correspondance to Rachel will be in private E, thank you for your eavesdropping patience. bwahahaha?

You are too funny! You always make me smile. Could use it today too. Something in my house is giving me an allergic reaction (probably some new allergy...I get them every now and then). Anyway, I took Benadryl last night for it, but today I just feel like someone beet the crap out of me. Fingers crossed that it's not just the start of the flu! Allergies suck! My question to AQ land....do shots really make that big of a difference?

I know that when you start allergy shots as a child, you can be completely cured of your allergies. (If that weren't the case, I know two cats that would be in a different home now!) I believe they work well for adults too. Definitely worth talking to an allergist if your allergies are having a negative impact your life. Hope you feel better soon!

some tips

I use Mistral font, carve upside down and here is something that seems like it doesn't get mentioned sufficently...

Sharpen your nibs and blades. Often then more often and then sharpen again.

A sharp tool can carve any material...well maybe not plumbers gasket.

I bet you could get a bundle for something like that selling it on eBay as an "antique."

Here's the really sad part - we got a brand new one last year. They were willing to spend the money to get new dot-matrix printer, but not a laser printer because a laser printer would have meant spending even more money to get new forms (checks and invoices). *rolling eyes*

Yes, shots make a world of difference. I have tried all kinds of allergy pills-from over the counter to prescription. It seems that nothing really helps without some strange side effect for me. So, I gave up and went back to shots a year and a half ago. I was really resistant to shots, having had them for 7 years as a kid. But I notice such a difference! I can dust without going into a 2 day sneezing fit. It has not helped with the cat allergy, but most everything else is better. I've missed my shots for about a month now and am getting sicker more frequently. If you can afford it, shots are wonderful.!

Here is a new poll. If you want Cyclonic to hold his breath don't mark any of the boxes below. If you want him to continue breathing mark any of them.

Countdown widget...

This sounds small and nit-picky, but would it be possible to make it so that if you have multiple entries with the same due date in the countdown widget, you can re-order them? I use the widget to keep track of swap due dates, but since sometimes the date is a "postmark by" date, and sometimes it's a "must be received by" date, being able to adjust the order of things would help a lot. :-)

I thought that might be the reason. I once worked for a forms company, and you'd be surprised how much money it costs to have new forms produced, even the same exact forms on different paper. When a form is designed, the salesman quotes several prices, depending on how many forms the company needs. Of course, all quotes include the price of design, platemaking, printing, and paper. It is actually cheaper to make more than less. For instance, say the design costs $100, platemaking is $100, printing is 10 cents per piece and paper is 1 cent per piece. If you make 100 forms, it would cost you $211 or $2.11 per form. If you make 1000 forms, it would cost you $310 or $0.31 per form. Obviously, these are very low numbers for example only and a run of forms could cost well into the thousands of dollars. Sometimes you can get a break on printing costs if you buy more paper, also. And surprisingly, you sometimes have to buy more paper than you will ever use. I remember we often quoted 20,000 pieces of paper when the company would only actually print on 10,000 pieces because that's how we had to buy it from the paper supply company. Then you must consider the fact that your company has tons of forms already printed and laying around, so if they change to a new paper, they'd have to pay for it all over again. It's a lot cheaper to buy a new printer now and then when a new run of forms is necessary, buy the laser printer at that time.

Probably way more information than you needed or wanted. I will admit that since dot matrix printers have been mostly obsolete for several years, it's kind of silly that your company had all of those forms printed on dot matrix paper in the first place. They probably had some salesman sell them 50,000 forms when they really only needed 10,000, so your company is trying to use them all up.

Hey, All!

There was a Firefly postal ages ago, but a friend of mine is itching to do some LTC's of the same. Would there be enough interest for me to set up a tracker? My plate is pretty full this spring, so I think I'd set a due-date around the end of May...?? PLEASE respond if you'd be interested! I keep setting up too-obscure trackers that only three or four people are into... LOL

Actually, I knew all that anyway. :)

We actually dictate to the forms company how many we need. Unfortunately, some yahoo here ordered 5 boxes of checks for one of our companies when we only go through about 1 box every year or so. They thought they were getting the checks for the company who goes through a box every couple months.

I'm hoping that when we move to our new office building in a few months, that will prompt them to get new forms (because of the new address) and therefore a laser printer. In the meantime, I'll have to continue to print all the payroll on the dot-matrix. Blech!

Taking a short break this AM… and fiddling with my active planted boxes. I made the following observations (not that they will be of all that much interest to most …but perhaps someone could squeeze a hint or 2 from these stats.)

- 66% in GA; 34% out of state

- Including GA, I’ve planted in 7 states

- 6 boxes in counties outside of Gwinnett and Dekalb, but still in the greater ATL area

- I have nearly twice as many boxes in Dekalb Co. (19) than Gwinnett (10) (which is my home county)

- Dekalb’s breakdown is: SMP (9), YRP (4), SM (2), DAMNP(2), Tucker (2)

"Hello, my name is Yahoo, and I order checks...." =)

It could be worse. Once I opened a bank account many, many years ago. I only ordered one box, and I still use checks from it. The problem is that the checks were pre-printed with the year written as 19_ _. I cross out the 19 and write out the full year. I definitely ordered WAAAAY too many checks! ;o)

Unfortunately, I think I still have enough checks to last the rest of this century.
