We're doing a swap for Birthday LTCs...but we're sending two cards each...one for the member to keep , and one to use for friends/family to introduce LTCs to our loved ones (they probably already know about it!!)
Someone just dropped, which reminded me to put it out there once more...Swap launching June 12th--not quite 2 weeks away...Interested?

Pete-
We'll be taking you up on that firewood offer. Here in NY you're not allowed to bring firewood into the state campgrounds from more than 50 miles away due to the invasive species of bugs that can kill the trees. Is it the same deal there in MA?
-Amy (who'd be grateful for some firewood)

I would call them "series 1" and "series 2", send in the one you like most to the swap, but use the others for trade. Or make a box of do-overs, seconds, one-offs, etc., for in-person trading. That's what I have going on.

Walmart has pedometers for $5. Cheap! If you buy one, ask the guy to open it up and get the battery going for you. The screw was so tight on the back of mine, that I couldn't unscrew it before it was stripped! It doesn't shut off either! hmmm, guess you get what you pay for.

Echoing everyone else: Every element was wonderful -- a nice sized group, meeting new people, seeing old friends. Every carving was wonderful, and my first night boxing experience was awesome -- looking forward to another opportunity. I'm pretty sure I established a new personal one-day record for boxes, too. Thanks to all the organization, and all those carving and planting hours -- I can't imagine! -- to Scout, Eiryn, Turtle Song, Magnolia Bud (carving with such skill already!), with ample help from Bopp and Eagle Eye (the friendly face behind us on those dark trails). A wonderful day.

I stumbled on this post while looking for guidance...
Did you check to see if the hitchhiker was listed on LBNA? Some hitchhikers are listed on both. I list all my traditional plants on both sites. (Signed up for LBNA one week before Atlas Quest)

Questions. Some of the boxes have milage at the bottom of the clue page. Can I assume that the ones that don't are less than a mile? And, if it says 1.5, should I only be logging in 1 mile on the widget?

Funny thing about RW, I like him in movies like "Patch" and "Centenial Man", but he's too frenetic for me when he's just being silly.
The surgery interview was, to me, sincere and funny.

The Down Side of HHs (Revisiting old topic Don't Force...)
Board: Hitchhikers, Cooties, and Fleas

I love HHs, don't get me wrong, but there is a down side to planting them.
There was a couple hitchhikers I had on hand for a little over a week and was hoping to find a box to plant one in. Yesterday, I finally found some boxes out of state and actually out of the country and my first find of the day was great for this first hitchhiker, which was what I was hoping for.
The box looked large enough and so after stamping the stamp in the hh logbook, etc. placed everything back in and rearranged it so everything would fit. The lid looked sealed. Flipped it over and nothing was falling out. Good, but looking at the plastic (this was more like normal tupperware, it was not a lock n lock), I noticed on one corner of the lid while sealed (nothing was exposed!) was not down to the plastic rim.
My mind raced with, "what to do, what to do" I already stamped the logbook. Couldn't push it down more. Flipped the box over again. Nothing fell out and the corner didn't become loose. It was still closed. My companion with me said, "Oh it's good enough." It bothered me though. So I emptied out all my inks out of the storage bag that held them and slipped the letterbox into a plastic bag. Placed the box with new storage bag back under the log it was under and placed a large stick in front of it.
When I got home yesterday afternoon/evening. I left the owner of the box a message, telling them what I did. After doing that, I noticed that the planter hasn't logged in here since October and does not live anywhere near that box either.
I learned my lesson. When I found a box large enough for the next hitchhiker, I first rearranged everything to make sure it fit before stamping anything.

Happy Treasure Hiking!!
I have created a tracker for participants in the Connecticut program. You don't have to live in CT to participate, of course!!
Here is the link:

You do not have to sign up for the tracker to participate, but it will help us to know how many are participating, and it will ensure that you receive any updated info.

Retiring a Series - The Blizzard of Last Year
Board: State: New Hampshire
Jun 1, 2009 5:25am
One of my first series I have ever planted, way back in December of 05, The Blizzard of Last Year, is now being retired. These stamp, which were foam store bought, have slowly gone missing and now the series is in such disrepair, I don't think the series is worth saving. I had been thinking of retiring this series for some time, but now the motivation is there. Now, for those that have walked around White Lake, I would like to plant new boxes there. Out with the old, in with the new. The difference is unknown at this point. What will I plant there? What I do know, the hiding places will be better now than they were then. I had only been letterboxing in 05 for only a few months.
So I hope that this series gave people a nice walk around the lake and I hope to have a new series of boxes out there sometime before the end of the summer.
Thank you to everyone that searched for this series.
David (Team New Hampshire)

I've never really watched it, but you can watch full episodes on TLC.com. I watched the episode with the vow renewal in Hawaii, and it was so sad, because Kate kept saying, "The kids can see this, and this will help them know that Mommy and Daddy will be together forever." She kept saying that. "Together forever." Made me cringe.

I understand you were trying to help, and I applaud you for that, but you should never put a letterbox inside a plastic bag. Bags can get holes in them very easily, which would allow water to become trapped inside the bag. If the box isn't sealed completely, that water could then get into the box and ruin the logbook. There's even a Q/A in the Help section about this very thing.
