I remember this one from last year so I didn't even click. :-)

Don't be ridiculous. I'd never use the same joke two years in a row. I last posted it two years ago. =P

You can read the whole thread at http://www.atlasquest.com/boards/messages.html?gMsgId=45293;gThreadId=8259. It's pretty funny reading! =)

When you're on geocaching.com and click on the link to enter the geocaching forums, you apparently go to a different site -- but are automagically logged into the forums site. How does that work?

Beats the heck out of me. =) I know Microsoft had a "passport" system that supposedly allowed you to log into multiple websites with the same username and password. I don't know exactly how that works, but I assume that once you're logged in, the other website redirects you back to the original site with extra data in the URL (or as a POST) so that site has enough information to "automagically" log you in.

But frankly, it just seems like more work than it's worth. It's a lot easier to maintain one website that can do everything than lots of websites that do the same thing, and less efficient overall to boot.

Just a suggestion, but is it possible to talk to her teacher/Counselor/nurse at school?

That's a good suggestion...I will keep it in mind...although I think I will probably go with one of her teachers or the counselor because the school nurse is a major b***h, I've had an encounter with her this year & after that encounter it makes me wonder even more how she not only got hired, but how she manages to remain employed there, she's incompetent (in my opinion), believe me I sure am glad that neither of my kids have to see her on a regular basis because she has no clue to what is what with these kids...ok, that doesn't directly pertain to the original suggestion LOL sorry

If she has an odor every week, then it must be at school also.

We're guessing that it must be also, but I don't really know any other 6th graders so I don't hear anything about how she is at school (she's the only 6th grader I have in the troop)

I am a HUG prayer here. I usually just lurk, say a little prayer and push that HUG button, 'registering' my prayer. Tonight I am reaching out. My very best friend, several states away, in NY, needs prayers. She spent 2 years going through frustrating and tedious fertility treatments. She finally achieved a pregnancy and conceived twin boys. She has had several medical difficulties throughout all this. She is 27 weeks along and has been admitted to the hospital until the birth due to cervical thinning and other difficulties. Everyday and every week gives those boys a better chance of making it. They are officially due on January 28 but at this point, everyone will just be grateful for every day. Hoping to make it to 30 weeks. Please say a little word for Leslye and the boys.

What if you use someone elses cluse that are very old and the box is known to have been missing for years and you do a tribute to the box that use to be there?

Unless there's a very historic box (such as the first planted in a given state or something), I wouldn't bother replacing a missing box. Open up the space for something new and different. Boxes aren't meant to last forever, even if that's most people's natural urge to do so.

Let it go.... I'll admit, I've been guilty of replacing other people's boxes who seemed to quit the hobby, but I've kicked the habit. Just let it go and plant something completely new. =)

As for the original poaching question, I wouldn't immediately rip out the offending box. Something rash like that could cause retaliation. Asking nicely for it to be removed would probably be more effective. Or don't replace your box at all and retire it completely. (I'm much less inclined to replace my own boxes nowadays, much less replacing other people's boxes.) Or replace the box and let the other box be a plug hole (is that what that's called?) Hole plug? Something like that.... An unlisted bonus box? =) Guess for me, it would depend on the box that was poached to decide what I'd do about it.

I filled out my little absentee ballot this afternoon. Voted for a couple of democrats, a couple of republicans, a couple of yeas, a couple of nays, and against all incumbent judges because they always have it too easy. Actually, I wish judges were appointed, because what are we electing people to represent us supposed to be doing? Let them represent us, darn it!

Anyhow.... There, there was one position for Legislative District No. 34, Representative Position #2, a "short and full term partisan office." It's an uncontested position, with only Sharon K. Nelson running. (She prefers the Democratic Party, it says.) I read her little "why you should elect me" blurb in the voters guide there, and it was pathetic. But then, why should it be otherwise? It's not like she's running against anyone. I never even HEARD of this person before today, and I'm supposed to vote for her, or for a write-in candidate?

Well, shoot, I think. Screw that. I'm voting for a write-in candidate. But who?

I'm not really even sure what the job responsibilities are for this particular position, but at least I know if *I* was in the position, I'd certainly do the best I could at it! So I voted for myself.

Yes, I, Ryan Carpenter, have officially voted for myself to fill the Representative Position #2 in Legislative District No. 34. I'm not confident that I'll win, but darn it, you've got to start somewhere, right?! =)

I heard that a team doesn't make it to the final finish....something that hasn't happened since 1st season I think

But snippet says a team is "prohibited" from joining their fellow racers at the finish line. That first season, the one team didn't make it to the finish line, but they weren't actually "prohibited" from being there. I'm kind of intrigued about what it takes to be prohibited from making it to the finish line. That's not the same as saying they just didn't make it there.

You can see how you voted on individual boxes (and change the votes as you see fit) from the Record Ratings page. You can see your overall voting patterns on the Blue Diamond Statistics page. (I really should rename that page to "My Rating Statistics" since that's what it really is.)

You can always find the links on the 'Letterboxes' page of the menubar option. (Not the drop down menu, but the actual page you get to if you click on the 'Letterboxes' option itself.)

Thanks, Terrio, I didn't know you could put cloves in it, my Uncle, who gave me the pears suggested the nutmeg and cinnamon, but not how much or anything else, and I have not made apple sauce to know the proportions. He gave me about 10 huge pears, and they are on the very ripe side. Hate to waste them, not much of a cook, have to have recipes to do any cooking. I think he is secretly hoping he will get some when I get done, lol. Although he said he didn't want any. I was hoping it could be frozen some how too. We will never eat all this very quickly, like it would probably take us a year or more. I don't can!
Thanks again,

No message boards were able to be seen, did I break it again, Ryan? lol I know it wasn't just my boards either, Goofy Girl came on chat, It Worked, thank goodness, and said it was the same for her. Actually, I wish judges were appointed...

A few years ago here in FL, governor Jeb Bush (a pretty good Guv, actually -- ten times the intellect of his brother in the Oval Office) proposed that judges in this state be appointed rather than elected, and it got on a ballot -- and was voted down. The ignorant voters in this fine state felt that Jeb was trying a power grab, to take the power of appointing judges for himself rather than leaving it to the voters. Fact was, though, that Jeb made the proposal precisely so the voters would have more say in the judges!

It's like this: With the system we had -- and still have, thanks to the ignorant voters -- judges run for election to a seat and the voters get to pick whichever one they like best. Unfortunately, more often than not there's only one judge running for the seat, which means he wins by default -- and doesn't even appear on the ballot. The voters get no say in the matter. But if judges were appointed by the Guv, then every x years the voters would get an opportunity to vote whether such-and-such judge should be retained. Hence, they could actually vote the bums out if they so chose, even if nobody else was vying for the seat.

I wish judges were appointed, too -- but for different reasons. They are prohibited by law from saying anything of substance in their campaign ads other than how many years they've been lawyers and who endorses them. It's virtually impossible to be an informed voter unless you've actually appeared in the guy's courtroom. They are charged with upholding the law, they are not supposed to make policy, so really it shouldn't matter which one becomes a judge as long as he's qualified. Just appoint them, and toss them out when they misbehave.

Has anyone ever tried using a small thermos to plant in? I am going to try one pretty soon, it is ready to go. I sanded it down, and used the camoflauge paint on it. Looks great! These are the wide mouth thermos'. It is pretty small, but was able to make a logbook about 1 1/2" x 2 I think it was. Forgot about the ice retention area on the inside of the lid and had to cut down the logbook a little to make it fit. I got several from the thrift store for a buck a piece. I figure if it holds stuff sealed to eat or drink its going to have a tight seal, the rubber gasket still looked good.
Just wondering if I am headed for trouble? I will post a picture of it in my album. I don't know how to do the link thing, yet.
