Yep. That's right. I live in NY but I'm throwing a party in North Dakota. Poor North Dakota has a measly 3 boxes for the entire state. That's just not right. Check out my new event and see if you're interested...I'd love to have you join me!

Anyone in North Dakota interested in a postal?

UPDATE: AS OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 I'M STILL LOOKING FOR PEOPLE FROM THE FOLLOWING STATES TO PARTICIPATE: IOWA, NEBRASKA, S. DAKOTA, and N. DAKOTA!

The goal of this postal is to have it follow the Lewis and Clark trail by visiting in proper order the states that the trail originally covered. It does not need to follow the precise trail locations, but will proceed from east to west.

Please contact me via my inbox here at altasquest if you are interested in participating.

I will send out the postal when I have received at least one participant from each of the above listed states.

Ideally, I would like to gather postcards from each of the states along the trail, as well.

You can find my postal under the postals listing as Lewis and Clark.

Hope to hear from you!

I grew up in Dickinson!! Great little town!! All my happy childhood memories are from ND. I wish there was more LB activity, too. Wonder if i know your relatives...you know what a small world it is, and Dickinson is still, what, 19 thousand people? I have some ideas that i want to carve and plant. We will be there next summer for a family reunion....

That is awesome! I grew up in Dickinson... many years ago. Good chance we might know some of the same people. I still have relatives in Dickinson. Will see them this summer, and going to introduce them to letterboxing. Just now sure how much activity there is in their area... but maybe if they get into it, and do some plants.... things will pick up!

Ask your friends if they knew or remember the Cartmill's....

They don't know Cartmill's. Did you know any Schmidt's or Schmalz's? I graduated in 73, but my niece, who still lives there, was a 86 grad. She lived on Palm Beach Rd... but I was on the south side of the tracks.

We knew some Schmidts-I think i went to elementary with a Becky Schmidt? I will have to pull up my yearbook... I left in 81 when i was ten. We lived on 12th Ave West-two blocks from the HS. I went to Jefferson Elementary and my mom was a librarian at Dickinson State College. :)
Stamp Carver Needed

I am in need of a carver from North Dakota. I know, I know... I'm asking a lot. :) But I'm willing to be patient until one pops up! I am doing a series here in Utah this spring during Rocky Mountain Plant-A-Box month. It will be named, "Hello From the United States!", and I am getting carvers from all over the US to participate. The theme for the stamp would be, "Hello From North Dakota!", and would be of your own design of what you'd like Utah to know of your state.

In exchange, I will carve you a stamp of your choosing, any theme. :)

I've got a date of April 1, 2010 set, so it's not an immediate need. I just wanted to give people a heads up so they have time to prepare.

Tracker is at: http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gTrackerId=3809

We're having our second annual letterbox event August 14th and 15th in/near Bozeman, MT. There will be a night of camping and plenty of fun to make it worth the trip. Don't forget we're pretty close to Yellowstone National Park and lots of other cool stuff like Lewis and Clark Caverns and many many hiking trails.

Last year we had an attendance of almost 20 people and hopefully we'll have a great turnout again this year.

Hope to see ya there!

I'm going to be visiting my grandparents in Fargo in early July and wondered if anyone might be around for a get-together.

Let me know...

We couldn't help but notice that you're in need of some plants and would probably appreciate some new boxes in your area! How about if you all plan an event for your state for next year and see how many folks can make it. Now, I can't guarantee that I can make it but I'm an idea kinda person and have a bunch of Noxer family members, "The Captain and his crew The Reluctants" will testify.

I'd be happy to donate a box to the efforts. If you plant them and plan the event, they will come... SD, IA, MN, Montana and Canada would appreciate it too, I'm sure! You could even chose a theme or go with a random thing.

What say YOU?

I agree that an event is a good idea. If you get an event together, please post it on the Minnesota message board (and other surrounding states). If at all possible, we would love to come and would bring a box or two to plant.

I wish more stamps were somehow related to the location in which they are planted. Researching the local history is one way to get ideas.

And by "somehow related" I mean that very loosely. For example (these are some of mine):

Bottom of an enormous cliff -- "Toonsis the Driving Cat" (from Saturday Night LIve, the cat always drives off a big cliff)
Roosevelt Forest -- A series about FDR
A park next to the headquarters of AIG - "The Great Recession"
Place where I found an unusual marbled salamander -- "Marbled Salamander"
The Mohawk Trail -- Stamp based on the flag of the Mohawk Nation

Just different ways to incorporate the location into the theme of the stamp.
