ACK! MC! I thought you were my friend... Real Spiders?

Or . . . just carve the web, and let everyone wonder where the spider went! That's scary enough!

There is a "box" here that is attatched to a tree limb at the end it is nailed to the limb

Is this a live tree? - how does that fit in with do no harm?

the tree limb is no longer attatched to the tree...a fallen branch if you will

Ahhhh I see. Better than thinking we were nailing things to trees. Sounds like it would be a fun one to find.

To find out more information about The Great Race 08, visit:

The site says "FOLLOW THE RACE BETWEEN TO STAMPS"--any chance we can get you to change that to "two"?

Keeping an eye out in CT...

I know, I know! I have to get planting! Summer has been busy so far.... My biggest slow-down is log books, believe it or not! Adding ti to my list right now....

And for the record, when I typed Madeira, I think I meant Mariemont.

That's the problem with trying to do anything while the kids are around!! (Unless I park them in front of the electronics....and I can only justify that for so long )

Unless you park them in front of that new Wii Fit! Have you seen or tried it?!?! **UNBELIEVABLE!!!

I have never had such a hard time breathing from muscle burn AND laughing my royal butt off at the same time! There are so many aspects to this---and there is no cheating either. You can't jump levels---you have to earn you way there. It checks your posture and your BMI and gives you feedback. The hoola-hoop one is hilarious!

MS---if you bought that for your kids, you'd be able to go letterboxing in the next STATE and come back and they would still be there glued to this thing! =D Not that I would suggest that kind of thing!!

OK, you force me to do this....

See that gob over there? It looks like mucous. But it'snot.

It would be unfortunate if the situation you described did actually occur, but I don't forsee any sort of retaliation being imminent.

It started to...someone put a cacher's pre-existing micro into a letterbox. The letterboxer went to check on their box, found the micro and didn't know what was going on...so he/she took it home and asked for help. The cacher was contacted and blamed letterboxers because "geocachers would never do such a thing." A maintainance post was placed on the cache that ranted a bit about the letterbox. Then he/she stated said, "Tell the letterboxer to remove the box or I will do it for them."

I did not pass on that information because it was so inflammatory. I just recommended to the boxer that he/she move their box farther from the cache and as far as I know that's what happened. At the time, I looked at the geocaching.com website for any kind of statement or guidance for what to do if there is a conflict -- is that OK for a cacher to say, "Remove your letterbox or I will do it for you?" -- and there was nothing.

The scenary could just as easily be the other way around. I don't think all boxers just shrug when a box goes missing. I have have replaced all of mine, in a slightly new locations. It's a pain in the butt and I don't enjoy having to do it. Is it OK for a boxer to tell a cacher, "Move your cache or I will do it for you" if the box was there first?

The Beach at Lincoln Park over in West Seattle is very accessible and it is close to the ferry to Southworth and Vashon Island. It would not be as crowded as the Alki area because it does not have views of downtown. The beaches themselves are sometimes tricky to walk on---very rocky and with beach logs (see my blog entry---beach logs can kill!)

http://samanark.blogspot.com/2006/08/beach-logs-can-kill.html

Alki Beach is very sandy and flat compared to a lot of other beaches in the area. The tidepool stuff around town is not as good as the areas over on the ocean side (Olympic Pennisula) or even the stuff you are used to in California. Downtown Seattle/Tacoma is on the Bay and pretty far inland from the Ocean. Kirkland and Bellevue are on the lake. Think of the differences between what is inland at San Fransisco Bay and what is on the Ocean.

I would recommend taking the ferry from West Seattle to Southworth and going to Manchester State Park at Port Orchard. It is relatively close-by (Gig Harbor or Mukilteo are further away from Seattle proper), has terrific letterboxes and you can get to the water very easily.

we will be posting on the board of the state in which the hiker lands, when the clues change. it sounded like the SC Hiker was planted near the border of another state, so i would imagine S.L. posted in 2 states. I plan on posting everytime there is an update, right now only in 1. no worries. you can also subscribe to the blog show it shows up on the right side of your "my page"

Thanks, everyone, for the gross photos - they were hilarious!

I think I like the idea of spelling it out in a drippy font the best, especially since the boxes will be called "Grandma's Spelling Test #1" and "Grandma's Spelling Test #2". I have a font idea for the other word also (you'll just have to visit Paradise, CA after mid-August to find out what it is!). Thanks!
