The LTC Game: Pass It On! is officially closed. There are no spots left and we have fifteen participants altogether (including me). Depending on how the first one goes, you may or may not get a spot in the next one if there is another one. Thanks to all the guys and gals who helped make this possible... =)

Quote but there are those who have said that they are very anti-American.

I haven't been there since the 90's, and at that time, due to some changes in government, they were moving away from their former secular emphasis and becoming more religiously fundamental. But, with that disclaimer, Turkey is one of my favorite countries because they truly seem to like Americans, as long as said Americans aren't being obnoxious and demanding. Children on the street who would recognize us as Americans would come up to talk so that they could practice their English. Merchants served tea, and were eager to sit and talk extensively about their country and culture before moving on to conducting business. Strangers in tavernas would start conversations and share thier wine or raki. The historical sites are more complete and better preserved than many of those in Greece. And did I mention that I averaged 3 marriage proposals a day?

I'm sorry I don't have more recent experience, but unless it has changed drastically, it's a place not to miss.

Quote What an irrational mind would do, apparently, is continue to insist over and over that somebody needs to provide concrete proof that leprechans don't exist.

Actually, a truly rational mind would admit to the POSSIBILITY of the existence of leprechauns (and I do) and decide, based on criteria, the LIKELIHOOD of that existence, and decide on a course of action or inaction based upon what makes most sense, given the situation.

Put it to you another way; I've never met a cannibal, either. Or a penguin. Or a polar bear. Or a unicorn, or a vampire. But I must admit that it's possible for such things to exist. Oh, sure; I don't really BELIEVE in penguins. But I have to admit to the possibility that they exist. Well, I mean, real ones. Outside of snow globes.

I mean, maybe they're just far away; further than anyone I know has gone. Or they're very good at hiding. Or their interests or foraging keeps them in the kind of places I don't look. Maybe penguins can be found in the Railroad Laws section of the library.

Should I carry a sea lion, just in case? They're awfully heavy.

Quote Because people believing in such things are having a ruinous effect on mankind. To use a current example, we wouldn't have our soldiers shedding their blood in Iraq and Afghanistan right now if it weren't for such beliefs. And unfortunately, that particular situation is likely to get progressively and significantly worse for the foreseeable future until nukes are detonated -- and it won't stop then. The only possible way to bring this madness to an end is for everyone everywhere to reject the various mythologies that cause them conflict.

You're KIDDING. You think religion is the ONLY reason we have trouble over there? Goodness gracious, there are TONS of reasons we are having trouble. Religion is, of course, one of them.

The problem is, religion is making all the other reasons we have trouble over there WORSE. That's partly because religion helps make people determined. This can be good AND bad. In this case, mostly bad. But there are other things, happening elsewhere, that it's almost solely good.

I've been seen at a religious hospital, for one.

Glad you are OK Quiet Place

I was about 20 weeks and fell in an airport on my belly .... they hauled me off in a Ambulance.

I was far away from home all by myself and in the hospital with monitors on me overnight, terrified.

My little guy was fine, he arrived on his due date ......

It could have happened anywhere ....

Just take care of you and the baby :O)

Has anyone read this book? I just finished it last night and am not sure if I liked it. I thought it was a bit confusing the way he jumped back and forth. Though I did like the way at each jump the author said what day, year and age he was.

I guess I was looking for more of an explaination for the time travel than genetic problems.

Any one else read it....love it.....hate it???

I read it a few months ago. I liked it a lot although it was hard for me to get into. Most books take me a day and a half tops to read and it took me a week to get through it. The ending also felt very unresolved for me. And some things didn't add up, which annoyed me...like how his wife had so many problems carrying his baby to full term yet his mother was able to carry him fine without medical intervention? I guess that's just one of the mysteries of the book. I personally liked how it focused more on the genetics than the time travel. I tend to stay away from time travel books in general because they blather on and on about worm holes and time continuums and lose the story line because they're so busy trying to justify how it could be possible. Overall I liked it but I don't know if I'll be reading it again.

It has been a wild ride...
but yesterday marked the end of this years Lady Devils softball when Mojo and her high school team made it all the way to the Chmpionship game! The Swain County Lady Devils and the East Surry Cardinals would face each other in the NC State High School Championship in Raleigh at 1:30. Because East Surry had not lost during this tournament we would have had to been them twice to win! Sadly, we did not!

The Devils are the runner-up in the entire state!
Not too shabby... especially for a freshman.

Needless to say... this weekend was has been an emptional roller coaster ride. Wow!

Go Devils!
