New LTC board
Board: LTC: Tips, Questions, and Stuff

Thread Board (disabled)
I've been thinking about it, and I decided to go ahead and create this new board. Everyone who already has the original LTC board as a favorite has had his one marked as a favorite. (Likewise, everyone who had ignored the original LTC board has been set to ignore this one as well.)

Use that original board, which has been renamed to "LTC: Trades and Trackers" for announcing trades and new trackers. Use this board for pretty much everything else. Questions, tips, suggestions, etc, etc.

I know a lot of you didn't want to see the board split, some even going so far as to suggest that one should ignore threads or not read them if it doesn't interest you. Honestly, it's easier to check posts on two boards than it is to ignore new threads day after day. It's not that hard! I have dozens of boards I check each day, and one more board isn't the end of the world.

And not to worry--nobody will miss your posts on the new or the old boards since everyone who had the old board as a favorite also has this one as a favorite.

Now, if you're one of those folks who wants to follow one either one of the LTC boards but not both of them, you'll want to change your board settings appropriately.

Happy trails!

I think you did the right thing here...it really does seem like it was needed.
I have got to where I don't read the LTC board as much unless a heading just jumps out at me.
I think this will be better.

Thanks

If it's the difference between someone reading only one of the two LTC boards or not reading any at all, I think most would prefer reading only one of the two boards. =)

I want to attach something to yarn then to the LTC. What do you all think would be the best way to attach the yarn to the LTC?

Thanks in advance for your help, (You guys always have the best ideas)

Moonflower,
You could punch a hole or holes in the card and thread the yarn through it (with ot without adding grommets) which would probably be the safest and most secure way.
You could use tacky glue to glue the yarn to the card.
You could use staples (plain or decorative).
Sorry, that's all I can up with this early in the morning-hope it helps!

depending on wht you are attaching to the yarn, you can glue your attachment down and let the yarn be free

zigzag sew the yarn on

staples

that's all i can think of

I agree with Lunarcy. One card that I made had linen thread sewn through it and glued on the back. I also glued an extra backing card over it to cover up any mess and hold it securely. It worked great. With yarn I think the hole punches would help to keep the sew point from ripping the paper.

Good luck!

If you're attaching something to yarn, then attaching the yarn to the card, would you mind saying how the yarn is being used? Is it like you're hanging a charm? Or a piece of paper, with the yarn running behind it as a color splotch or line image?

If its hanging a charm type thing, then attaching to card, then, hole punching might be the best. Or the stapling, either decorative or not. Also, do you want the item hanging to swing free or can you put a glue dot behind it to hold it in place, taking the weight off the hanging on the yarn and affixing it to the card? Eyelet the hole, if you're concerned about the card tearing or put a circle paper reinforcement on the back side of the card around the hole. Remember those from school days? A piece of tape might help on the back too, before you punch the hole, adding cohesion (no pun intended) and strength to the paper.

If it's just putting yarn across the card, then of all things, maybe dots of Elmers or craft glue. The double sided tape and dry type of glues would probably pick up the fuzzy, but not attach to the card in a permanent way. Think of lint brushes.

For something really funky, you can put a bunch of embossing powder down, put the yarn in it and add several layers of embossing to hold it on. Or use some sort of twist tie going through the card. Brads, even, can hold yarn in place and be fun and funky at intervals.

We are new to letterboxing, and are having a great time! Love to carve stamps, and I am doing pretty well with that!

I have been lurking around the LTC board, and now that there has been a split in the board I am not so afraid to post my question.

I kind of get what a LTC is, and I hope to attempt some soon.

Are there any suggestions or hints that any one has for me? And exactly how does the whole thing work with LTCs?

Kinda generic questions, but it is the end of the day. :-)

Looking forward to seeing the replies in the am.

Night.

Find some paper, find some stamps, put the two together! That's it! :o)

Seriously though, the sky is the limit with how creative or simple you can be with them. I'm pretty new to them too, so I understand your curiousity/questions (I've made less than a dozen myself).

Here is a link that explains just about anything you could need to know about making and trading LTCs - I still keep referencing it for more tips and ideas. There's even a list of blogs where other LTC-traders have posted pics of some of their creations - just don't let the samples intimidate you; they don't have to be as elaborate as what you may find there! Some of my favorites are simple black stamped images on white or printed paper.

Other than that, just list them in the same way you would list other letterboxes, post a quick message to the trackers and trades board, and watch the requests roll in. You can also seek out trades from other LTCs that are listed as active when you do a search. Just send a quick message to the owner.

Most importantly, have a great time!!
HPL :o)

And exactly how does the whole thing work with LTCs?

The BIG rule is the paper size... 2.5 x 3.5 inches. After that... there must be a stamp. Everything you need can be found here, along with pages of examples:
http://www.atlasquest.com/aboutlb/wiki/browse.html?gCatId=39#q335
My LTC blog is here:
http://lunasealife.blogspot.com/
Some people prefer simple cards... the stamp on the paper with not a lot of fuss and muss. Some people like embellishments (beads, buttons, stickers, flowers, etc), color (markers, colored pencils, watercolors), glitz (glitter, tinsel, sequins).

My personal thought... if it's a gorgeous, elaborate, detailed stamp, put on a card, it won't need much else to carry it. If it's a really simple stamp, work off the idea of the stamp and elaborate using embellishments and color.

I think it's best to pick a swap and jump in. Get an idea in your head and ask questions. Most everyone on the board are happy to offer suggestions and help.
Good luck!

About the paper, is there a limit to the weight or type? I work in a print shop and have a good relationship with the paper store down the street.

Or is the limit my imagination?

Can someone remind me who made the set of LTCs shaped I think like coffins? There were 4 of them with animals inside, Pen Penguin, Chumgkee Panda, Jack Rabbit and Marcy Monkey?

I found that there are alot of cards that weren't logged in that were in my binders, so I may be asking about more cards.
