you didn't know the people who lived in atlantis were letterboxers? they used ancient bubble cases that work even better than lock and locks...but their boxes were even harder to find than mapsurfer boxes, and harder to unlock than X's five secrets.

The middle of the Atlantic is underwater, but the mid-Atlantic states are only sometimes.

What?!! according to Wikipedia I'm not even supposed to be on this board!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Atlantic_States

Apparently North Carolina belongs in the "fuzzy area".

You are more than welcome to be honorary Mid Atlantic, in addition to whatever fuzzy board NC is supposed to be relegated to. The Mid Atlantic tends to be a catchall region for odd birds... =)

Hey guys, I live in Virginia and am also a letterboxing newbie. I've just gotten started in boxing, but was wondering if anyone knew of a source for "Letterboxing Mid-Atlantic" patches?

Thanks!

Who's going on the Washington Post Hunt on Sunday May 17? I've never been to one but it seems like a great brain practice for letterboxers.

Thanks to the planters of the boxes we found in S. NJ and central MD. I left 3 boxes in MD and 2 HH's in repayment.

I've been to North Carolina many times. Plenty fuzzy areas... but great letterboxing!

I haven't found the fuzz in nc to be particularly bad. Many more speed traps in lower delaware.

Where to for a lb'ing weekend?

So, my friend and I want to do a girls weekend away from home in the spring, to spend quality letterboxing time! We are ditching the kids and the husbands and heading out.. but where to? We are thinking in April, maybe long weekend excursion.

Here is out criteria, or trying to get close to it:
1. Within 3-4+ hours of Philadelphia or York, PA
2. Places where there is a high concentration of boxes
3. Alot of different carvers, of hand carved stamps
4. Areas where two 40-something women would be safe hiking alone
5. Maybe other other points of interest to explore, ie: historical, unique, sight seeing, etc...

Ok, put on your travel thinking caps, tell me about your area, and help us on our adventure!
Thanks in advance!

I am out here on the west coast but if I were planning an excursion along the east coast I would definitely want to see some of the Merry Prankster's carves :) The one's I've seen in the postal rings are absolutely amazing!

Washington, DC/ northern Virginia fits your criteria. We've also been known to host a mini-meet or two down here.

Stay real close to home and come on up to Nolde Forest! Beautiful area, tons of boxes - mystery and traditional, many carvers and planters (including me!) and close to where I live so we could finally meet!

Delaware.

2nd choice, either Nolde or French Creek.

We could easily pimp our own home turf, but I'll go out on a limb and recommend other areas:

Binghamton, NY Area - in particular the IBM Glen, there are also a wide variety of less walking intensive plants by a large collection of talented carvers
Northern Virgina - the DC area also has a large population of carvers of varying styles

Both are at the outer edge of your trip desires, but well worth it. You are looking for a weekend, not a day trip, right? :-)

Nah, none of that--da Bug speaks only of himself, and also recommends N'ern VA. Although he hasn't boxed much in Delaware. ;-) But yeah, ya gotta love the DC area....

(Although indeed, Allentown...South Mountain alone could be a good day trip. And then maybe Jim Thorpe? Hmmm. Sounds like I need a lb'ing weekend myself....)

(cross-posted to the LBMA list)

In the interests of not having more than half a dozen unclued boxes in the wild at any one time, I have written up directions to Haigha & Hatta. I apologize in advance for their "kinda sorta head this wayish for a bit" nature. Feel free to offer constructive criticism if you manage to find your way home again afterwards....
