With the Yahoo groups, I've gotten a bit confused about what a Mid-westerner is...but being from IL (and formerly WI), I count myself in that category. SO, HEY MIDWEST, how are the best folks in the US doing this fine morning!

Iowa checking in, Sir.

It's wet. It's chilly. I'm finishing up the carving part of an eight stamp set called Road Kill. I know you midwesterners can relate to that! No, it's not gross, or gory, or sad. The sub-theme is love with a side order of s*x.

Well, that is one of the more intriguing descriptions I have heard! Will have to venture forth to Iowa someday for sure!

Checking in form SW Ohio, where most of us are still without power following the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. First time I consciously remember a hurricane have such a significant affect this far inland!

Not too many power outages here in the Chicago area....just LOTS of flooding. Major interstates are shut down because of it. Getting to work was hard, but at least no one here has a flooded house.

Hey hey hey from Minnesota!

I don't think I'll be making it to the 10th Anniversary event in Door County next month, but I'm hoping many of those new plants are permanent, as we're planning a family vacation there next summer. :)

Checking in from mid ohio listening to the lovely sound of a generator. We had to make a choice TV or computer. Yeah, you guessed right.

This reminds me Mama, Do you remember when Mt St. Helens erupted and how it effected our weather? It's hard to imagine that something so far away could cause such a change in our weather. We are definitely all connected.

Sorry to say, but the boxes are temporary. Only the first LB in WI is graciously being allowed to stay. Apparently the park is rather fragile. But I bet there are lots of other boxes in Door County!

Oh, I meant the plethora of boxes that have been listed all over the Peninsula, not just in the event park. If not, I guess I'll have to leave some behind when I go... :D

I do vaguely remember htat--I was much more self-absorbed at that point! It is a lesson on connectedness, for sure!

And, on that note, I am off to the grocery (hoping my prefered one is open!) with all three kids--man I wish school was open!

Even though we didn't have any rain in Central Ohio from the remnants of IKE we did get 75 MPH winds throughout Ohio and surrounding Midwest states.

A fellow letterboxer (central Ohio) said that someone told her that she should check on her series of 9 boxes that were hidden in trees in a rural cemetery. She went by and found that several of the trees were gone but the boxes were on the ground nearby but one was completely missing. The grounds crew had already been there to start cleaning up the debris.

Many trees and shrubs in Ohio and near by states have fallen or been damaged. If you have boxes hidden in this type of environment, you might want to check on them if you have a chance.

OK, folks -- two of the four road kill letterboxes are available, and the other two should be available sometime this week. For those who think they might be too far away, I urge you to read the clues and enjoy those, at least.

Planting delay

Like many others life moves at a steady pace for us. We are heading to West Plains, MO for a wedding on Sunday. We were going to box on the way, but that is looking less and less likely, but we are hoping to plant a few while we are there. The boxes are ready and placement has been found. The time to actually plant the box is the hard part. There are not many boxes in the area that we are going that are listed. If anyone knows of a box in the area of Willow Springs, MO and West Plains, MO please let us know. We plan to get the rest planted soon.

Thanks

Hi! I carved a stamp of the lighthouse in St. Joseph, MI. I was wondering if anyone lives in the area, or will be going there, that would be interested in planting a box? Let me know if you're interested!

If you happen to be going to the County Fair event in a couple weeks, all the better... I can bring it with me!

Thanks,
Bali

If anyone happens to be traveling through Missouri on Oct 25, do plan on stopping by a very magical event. See http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gEventId=970 for more information.

Just like the Bradbury classic, there is no telling what "acts" may blow into our Midwest town on the upcoming October evening. An event not to be missed and one at which you should keep you eyes open.

An event not to be missed for sure. I hope to see you there.

It's not the midwest, but the DC, VA, MD area has a ton of LBs all an hours or so drive from each other.

Look up Washington, DC...Arlington, VA...and half of MD is about 1 hour from DC depending on where you stay.

We found a lot of great letterboxes in the Chicago area....and you have the regular Chicago Tourist attractions as well. :-) We did a road trip from Chicago to Madison, WI and back and found and planted letterboxes along the way.

More off the beaten path, Near Terre Haute, IN is Turkey Run State Park and more letterboxes. Ryan and I flew in and out of Indianapolis and enjoyed our time in that area as well! :-)

I found some beautiful letterboxes in Rockford, Illinois. I even planted one as a thank you to Pastor's wife and Trail Rider. Not only did we meet and exchange, but it made for a fun stop on my vacation. Watch out for the birds if you get Ode to a Rose-I felt like I was in an Alfred Hitchcock movie.

Of course, NC is also a great place to box.....
