You just went back to school today? We have been in session for a week and a half.....but we are in the South and they don't understand about going back after Labor Day. But, we get out at Memorial Day and not the middle of June.

we get out at memorial day and go back in the midle of august, the hottest month in our calendar, but often they won't turn the a/c on, because "it's only going to be hot a couple more weeks"

I hope your body fluids weren't too gross. I did not encounter any body fluids today, only eager young minds willing to learn! Hope tomorrow is better for you.

I went back the week before Labor Day and I won't get out until mid-June... unless there are snow days, and then it will be around the 20th.

No, mine were eerily well behaved...like Stepford children! I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop...!

Hey, with all these teachers, we need an AQ board of our own, I'd think! :-)

We started back on August 3rd... I had 2 throw ups in the first 3 days. Mature young men, they threw up in my trashcan- notice I said MY TRASHCAN! Not one of the other two- no they chose the one by my desk. MY TRASHCAN. Arg.

Tears and excessive restroom use were the only ones in my class (neither from me, thankfully!). It's going to be an exciting, hectic, great year, I think.

We used to start back early August or late July....but the legislators finally passed a law that school cannot begin before the 3rd Monday in September....for kids. Teachers go back a week early.

I like the idea of our own Board. I don't know about you but I'm exhausted! The first week back is always the toughest! Anybody else teach middle school?

"Anybody else teach middle school?"

I teach middle school...woot! I love my 8th graders....exceptional children, at that. :)

We have a law in NC now that school cannot start before August 25th. The kids came back on the 27th, so we've been at it for a couple of weeks now.

Middle School here! I teach 7th & 8th LA/SS. First day was today. I agree that the first week is tough, but I'd trade it for the last week any day. Those last few days never fail to wear me out.

Just regular 4th grade this year. I did GT for grades 3-5 for a while, but I'm back to a room of my own again, which I REALLY like. I painted bright primary blue to mark my territory...no teacher will EVER want my room now (muhahahahahaaaa!)

I've got only 16 kids intstead of 22 (or 250) for a change...REALLY nice!

Not sure why, but (with few exceptions) the southern states all go back in August and end by Memorial Day, while the northern ones don't start until after Labor Day and end in June. I think I like the September start dates...feels more like school in the fall than it does in the last throes of summer to me!

I teach K-5 library -- one of the best jobs in the building, in my opinion! Since I'm in NY, we started back on Tuesday, and today is the first day for the kids. No problems so far! Happy new school year to all of you! :-)

Both kids were showered and on their own at that point. They are old enough to take care of themselves for the most part. Someday, yours will be too LL!

Only tears down here, but upstairs in 4th there was throwing up because the poor guy was so anxious....noses will soon be running though and that is fun to deal with :o)

And when roaming in the early am as the kids arrive, Catherine has been a great help to our first grader "church boy" as he adjusts to a new school!! Great to have met such a nice person compliments of letterboxing!!! "Princess girl" was thrilled to get a hug from Gwen on her first day as well!!

I am certified to teach grades 7-12 life science/ biology, but haven't taught since "church boy" was born. Once "princess girl" (4 1/2) is in K or first grade, I plan on joining the ranks once more! I do miss the excitement and nerves of the first week!!!

Thanks to all the teachers who take such good care of our kids!!!

Me too. Last year I taught 2nd... all but math which was when I taught music and art K-6. Year before I taught 2nd grade LA, music and art k-6, and science and social studies for 5/6. I am so happy to be back in a class of my own!! I have 14 students.

Okay, we need several old, darkly stained coffee mugs, an old mystery baked good on the table, an old, broken copy machine shoved in the corner, and strobing fluorescent lighting and I'll feel right at home!
