Ahhh...poor lonely little message board.

I'll write something strange.

I work next door to a toy store. A friend of mine was in their stockroom yesterday. And She saw a notice on their bulletin board. There's a new toy coming out. But the store is not sure if they are getting it.
Anyway, It's a new Star Wars commerative Mr. Potato Head.....Darth Tater

The two in the title are not related. It would be a hoot to have a Darth Tater sitting next to my sword drawing Xena, Stitch, Ursula, two trolls, and a bobble head Michael Andretti up here on the computer desk. Whenever we're getting ready to road trip - which is just about every weekend around this house - husband will say, "Monkey chow?" and I reply "And I packed your angry eyes." Just the ritual.

I think I must have been a jewish catholic dog in a previous life, with all the guilt I feel over the two day delay in getting out a PLB. (blinking several times with a bland look on my face) I thought I had my Monkey Chow packed, and timing issues done. Knowing what the last few weeks would look like with several large time consuming projects, a dash to Hot Springs (in which I sorely missed finding that geocacher's box between Nashville and Memphis, but did plant one in Memphis before I left but did meet a self described tree hugging republican and handled an Oketee Corn snake), hubby's 40th bday with all the festivities involved. Carving stamps is not on my list of "Gee, Liz does this really well." The stamp was in a baggie sitting on my desk downstairs. I knew when I left it there I shouldn't. Four cats and the dog. They can all look equally guilty at the house, but they work in tandem. The cats will knock something off the counter and the dog takes over.

Baggies are an attraction to one cat. Dr. Nick will find blueberry muffins in bags and carry them around to parts unknown. Usually under the bed. Sandwiches too. Bread (nodding). Sometimes she'll howl piteously and we find her carrying around a potato in her mouth. When a potato is lacking, there's always one of those quick bags of pancake mix. So, she's number one suspect on the stamp being taken off the desk. Behind her is Speedway, who plays with anything shiny. Now, its possible that the cats carried out the chew marks on the stamp. The dog though, looks might suspicious.

All in all its funny. I really quickie carving served the need. In retrospect, I probably should have sent the remainder of the stamp out. Kind of like the time one of my big clay projects at Tulane was due, but while it was drying, the cat walked all over it. I smoothed out the paw prints and regretted doing so later. Back to the quickie stamp, its not my first choice for introducing myself, but hey, it's all rosey in the future.

Speaking of 'angry eyes':

Ref: Toy Story My kids' favorite part of that movie is in the outtakes section of the DVD. Mrs Tater is pulling out/cramming all this junk into Mr Tater before he heads out for the day. She crams different body parts and other items into his storage 'space' that just won't fit inside of a 'legit' potato head. Then she caps off the event by mentioning, "Don't forget your angry eyes" using her best Jersey Girl impression and cramming those eyes into the space. Hysterical!!!

Also, it's pretty funny when she crams in the yellow play-doh and the yellow gunk comes protuding out of every Mr Potato Head orifice that exists. I think my kids enjoyed that more than the entire movie itself! ;)

For those of you following my AT adventures and heard about Rubberband Man, I just discovered this website of his. Can't believe he didn't tell me about it himself. Sheeze! He's also the one responsible for that letterboxing article in the Missoula paper.

Anyhow, I figured I'd give him some press here. =) http://www.rubberrubberbandman.com/

They really are fun to play with! But I had no idea he was trying to sell them!

This doesn't really fit into Misc Oddiites, just Misc. but with all that stamping, I've been wondering is there is a scrapbook segment out in Letterboxigland or is this something else altogether?

"I've been wondering is there is a scrapbook segment out in Letterboxigland"

By "CM", do you mean "Creative Memories"? I do scrapbook, so I recognized "CM" to mean that.

I do not, however, combine scrapbooking and letterboxing.

I know of boxers who do, however. They have scrapbook sized log books. Each page is devoted to a particular letterbox, usually containing an image stamp (often cut and pasted from a small logbook they use on the trail), a photograph of the general area, a copy of the clues, a description of the date, time, weather, and companions that day, and a story about the find.

I've seen boxers do this for *all* finds, I've seen boxers do this for *just letterboxing events*.

Just wanted to let you know that they are "out there".

I had been meaning to post a link to this story...Ryan and I saw this on tv when we were down in Portland, OR last week. It seems that someone (an eco-terroist group?) is wrecking havoc on the Sandy River in Oregon. They have placed nails and spikes on the rocks to damage rafts as they float down the river. There was also speculation that it was done by vandals and not related to any "cause". Perhaps a feud between kayakers and rafters. Who knows? Anyway! Be careful out there you rafters!

There always seems to be some animosity toward rafters and kayakers. Maybe it is their disgusting eating habits, and the way they always leave the empty food containers behind. I know I really get tired of seeing the small empty jars of salmon eggs and styrofoam worm containers. You would think they would get sick of that cuisine. Here on the Kern the boaters leave baby diapers strewn about particularly after a holiday weekend. There is one group of rafters I hope never to come across as I probably would be thrown in the pokey. Several years ago some commercial boaters blew up Quartsite Falls on the Salt River in Arizona. This was a super class 5 rapid that kept the Salt free of class 4 boaters. It had several deaths attributed to the rapid(anyone heard of portaging) . Now it is inundated with boaters, and the river has forever changed.

I just wanted to share how I've become really particular about the way that immigration officials stamp my passport.

I visited Sydney, Australia over Easter, and I even asked the man to stamp my passport on a particular page so that they'd be all in order and tidy! He kindly obliged but I could tell he thought I was weird.

I think this must be a carry-over from stamping nicely in my boxing journal :-)

You got a nicer immigration guy than I usually do. When I ask they usually ignore me. The one exception was when we asked an official on the train going in to Austria. He just laughed at us young backpackers wanting another stamp in our passports, but happily did it for us. For me it is more about getting another passport stamp to show an adventure and protecting my cool Spanish visa from when I lived in Madrid. It is really fun looking and I would be so sad if someone stamped over it.

It's funny though, I find myself being protective in the same way with my National Park Service passport. I guess I'm a little obsessed! :)

Marshmallow personality test

Ok, I know this is goofy, but I've often wondered, whilst sittin around the campfire, whether the differences in marshmallow toasting style correlates with personality. Are you a Toaster or a Flamer?
Do you patiently turn your little white nugget of goodness over the coals, gently waiting for the center to be warm and toasty, and the outside nice and evenly browned to perfection.
Or do you just go for it-thrusting the screaming sugar puff into the bluest part of the flames and rejoice in the conflagration you have created?
Toasters strike me as careful, rational people who consider a situation fully before making a move.
Flamers are impulsive, thrill seekers-always curious and looking for new stimulation.
So-Flamer or Toaster?

I'll tell you what I am after I see a few replies! ;)

I'm a careful toaster...until I accidently get too close to the flame. I quickly blow out the flame, concider the damage, and carefully toast the rest of the marshmallow.
I enjoy the carbon tang with the smooth, sweet goodness.
So I feel that I'm a careful person, who enjoys the unexpected suprises of life.
I've never considered the deepness of s'mores before...
bless you

I am a definite toaster! It has to be just perfectly gooey on the inside without the black on the outside! Yum. However, I like my hot dogs burnt to a crisp! Hmmmmm......

I'm a serial toaster and/or flamer. I toast or flame (either is fine so it just depends on how patient I am at the time), then pull off the outer layer to enjoy while the remaining marshmallow goes back over the fire. My record is six layers before there was nothing left to roast.

I am a scrapbooker and a letterboxer and I do combine the two but not on the trail. I have a logbook that I take with me to stamp in and I usually take my camera also. Then when I have time to scrapbook, I make a scrapbook page of the pictures, the clues, the stamp and any personal notes. I personally think that letterboxing is the perfect combination with scrapbooking.

It broke my heart when my passport got washed recently! It had a gorgeous visa for china with multicolored ink and all my stamps from my travels in Asia (where they love to stamp your passport and any other piece of "official" paper that is in range) STAMP, STAMP! Plus alot of my stamps from work.--as a flight attendant, they don´t always stamp your passport everytime --or else it would fill up too quickly. Often if I am traveling to a new destination I have to ask them to stamp it (I had to ask in Aruba not too long ago)
This trip to Panama is my first stamp in my replacement passport.

Thanks for all of your great replies! As for me.........
It's all about the flame, baby! It's all about the flame! Ever since I was a kid I love the thrill of watching a little pyrotechnic display on my stick and then blowing it out to relish the charred, crunchy goodness surrounding the melty center. My brother and I also discovered that it was really funny to fling the black mass at the nearest tree trunk (after blowing it out) to hear the sticky "thunk"! I'm sure there are some diabetic squirrels running around somewhere as a result of our shenanigans!
Keep on Boxin' !

Hi! I'm new to the site and to Letterboxing - am looking forward to going out on my first "hunt" - but I am an avid scrapbooker, and I am already in my head planning a page to "talk" about this new hobby, and was thinking about creating a SB (versus a traditional logbook) of the finds! I'm glad to hear that others do this too. I'm surprised there isn't a Scrapbooking discussion going on under Hobbies, or more talk about other scrapping/stamping activities on the boards!

Scrapbooking seems like a good addition to the Hobby Box, so I've created one. =)

I'm not really sure how many scrapbookers are letterboxing. Back when I first started, I'm not sure there were any, but they've definitely started a "letterboxing invasion," but like any good invasion, they're keeping their battle plans hidden. ;o)

But seriously, I figure most of the scrapbooking talk is probably going on on scrapbooking websites rather than a letterboxing one. But hey, there might be some letterboxers that are looking into doing their own "scrapbooking invasion" and need a place to discuss their battle plans. =)

For lack of a better name, I called the new board "Scrapbooking." Kind of boring, I know, but I couldn't think of a snazzier name off the top of my head. I'm willing to take suggestions and modify the name of the board, though!

Happy trails!

Glad to hear there are other "scrappers" out there! I have been letterboxing since 2003 and have always scrapbooked my finds. I too have a policy of getting my finds into my scraplogbook the same day as I find them. The first year I did not have that policy and ended up spending a winter doing "catch-up". Scrapbooking is extra work but so worth it when I hear the wonderful comments made about my scraplogbooks :) I love making 3-D images with LB finds and embellishments.
