I know that this has been mentioned on the main board at Yahoo! This movie looks like a letterbox quest adventure. It is coming out November 19th. It stars Nicolas Cage. Someone go see it and report back! Heck, I will probably go see it...I'll keep you guys posted.

The word is that Ron Howard is going to make the DaVinci Code into a movie.
Rumor has it that he has already recruited Akiva Goldsman who penned the adaptation of A Beautiful Mind to write a screenplay.

And Howard is supposedly in talks with Russell Crowe for the lead.
Kate Beckinsale is being considered to play Sophia, the dark-haired female protagonist and love-interest for Crowe.

This is my favorite movie themed letterbox and I have not even found it yet!! The Movie Mystery box by Brett and Penny is my second favorite. (again, I have not found that one either! I need to get out more!)

I was just talking up this book over the weekend with a friend of mine. This book was a fast read and I'd love to see it as a movie!

I had recommended Da Vinci Code on the main yahoo board when it first came out in hardback. I blew through it and really enjoyed the story. I totally saw it as a "letterboxing" book. Unfortunately, that was a very controversial recommendation. Several people took offense at the way the church was portrayed in DaVinci Code. I hope the Movie turns out well!

This movie looks like a letterbox quest adventure.

When we first started lbxg, I immediately recognized that Shawshank Redemption would fit the theme beautifully! Between the nickname of the narrator (Red) and the scene with the cigar box in the rock wall, a lbx series seemed tailor made.

I researched the usa list, and saw where it had been discussed several years ago, but no one had done it.

Despite the lack of rock walls in Maine hayfields here in GA, I finally got the series done! Just posted it in the last week. It's not on LbNA.org, but it is here on AQ.

If you're ever this way again, please check it out!

Awesome! It is definitely on my letterbox to do list!
I had a An Officer and a Gentleman series in Port Townsend, WA in the park where the movie was filmed, but the 3 boxes were pulled by the park rangers and I had to retire the series.

I second that emotion. The humor was very clever, there's something for the whole family. Silliness for kids and adults alike. I especially liked the short cartoon at the beginning of the feature! Called Bounding I think. You don't want to miss that, so be sure to have your popcorn and take your bathroom break with plenty of time to spare!

Finally got the chance to watch this Italian film last night. It is really sweet. It had been recommended to me a year ago, but I had not had the chance to see it until now.
A beleaguered housewife is seperated from her family while on vacation. Instead of returning home, she sets out for Venice and a real vacation from her life at home.

Ryan says he just heard that Tom Hanks was going to be the lead in Da Vinci Code the movie. I just did an internet search to try and confirm that, but I can't find anything. I notice that Hanks and George Clooney are also mentioned with Russell Crowe as possibles for the lead.

Somebody (I forgot who now) at the Mysterious Visitors gathering had seen it and thought it was terrific! I think it got bad reviews from a lot of newspapers, but it did a fantastic opening weekend and from the word of mouth I hear, it is just a fun movie. (I think the reviews were about how far-fetched the concept was)

Took the kids to see Polar Express today. It was actually pretty good. We read the book every year and this was a nice adaptation of it. Just thought I'd share :)

I'm kind of curious to see the movie, if for nothing more than the special effects. Can't say I've ever read the story before (shocking, I know!), but I'm still fascinated.

Sadly, however, I heard that the Polar Express crashed into an Amtrak train. They even showed a picture of it on the Tonight Show. Very sad. *nodding*

We saw the movie on opening day and were the ones that mentioned it at the Mystery Gathering :). This movie had the longest line! It is an entertaining movie...kind of on the lines of an Indiana Jones. It is definitely far fetched though. You can see the hobby of letterboxing throughout the movie and thankfully it is never mentioned by name. There is an interesting scene on what to do if you forget your stamp pad at a box (no more said as you need to see the movie <vbg>).

Darren and I saw it in 3d on the Imax with my 7 year old sister. I loved it. If you can see it in 3D, it's worth it because the effects are really cool.

Having seen the regular version, I would LOVE to have seen it at the IMAX. I can imagine it was awesome.

We also thought it was a lot of fun. Another scene mentions a way of coding clues that I hadn't heard of before. I went home and immediately solved the last part of VictoriAnna's The Pine Tree Shilling.

Really enjoyed it, no matter how unplausible it may seem. Ryan got some great ideas for more walking tour letterboxes :-)

Huh!

When I was at Powell's City of Books last August (buying a book on "cracking the Da Vinci Code), they had signs posted in the section about the Ron Howard movie, saying *Harrison Ford* would be cast as Langdon. And that the movie was set to be released January 2005. From Ryan's link it seems that information was a bit premature. Hmm, Hanks as Langdon, eh? Guess I'll judge when I see it.

As for the controversy surrounding the book - well, all I can say is it is *fiction.* Yes, based on some real facts and much academic research, but still fiction. (OK, so I guess that's not ALL I can say... =) Though I don't agree with Brown's interpretation of several situations and historical events, I enjoyed it very much as a story. I went right out and read all of his other books. The Da Vinci Code certainly didn't threaten my faith (however, I'm not a Catholic), but it *did* make me go out and learn more about his resources - the Gnostic gospels, the cauterization of the Bible, the Council of Nicene, etc. I think that learning more about a subject - especially a controversial one, is rarely a bad thing.

So I did. Then, I moved on to other authors. =)

I'm kind of surprised the book was so controversial myself because, like you said, it IS fiction. *rolling eyes* The only thing the author states is true is the description of the paintings and such, but sheeze! It's like an ink blot. You can read anything you want into it and while the description might be accurate, the interpretation is pure imagination.

But you know, I bet Brown loves the controversy. It's probably sold him more books than all his others combined! From a marketing standpoint, controversy is nothing short of free publicity, and wow is he getting a lot of publicity!

Loved this movie, too, Amanda! I'm a sucker for stories about people doing the unexpected and walking away from their lives (hmmm, wonder if my family should be worried...). Definitely read Ladder of Years if you haven't yet - somewhat of the same theme, though I didn't care as much for the ending.

One of my very favorite movies is Next Stop, Wonderland. Great bossa nova soundtrack, too

That movie poking fun at those poor, Baudelaire orphans. I just wanted to cry watching that wretched--wretched, of course, meaning I'd rather poke out my eyes while surviving on krill in the southern hemisphere--than continue to watch such a horrible. Those poor orphans are out there somewhere, in the clutches of Count Olaf, and the public should be outside looking for them, not inside watching such filth. I urge you, please, do not see this movie. There are even rumors it was funded by Count Olaf himself!

With all due respect,

well, it wasn't awful but it wasn't the best movie I've seen this year either! (the incredibles was much better). If you are a fan of the books, be warned that they mix and match elements from the first three books in no particular order. The ending is left up in the air (appropriate enough) so that there could be more movies to incompass the later books. Maybe if this one makes enough money they will...

Jim Carrey is suitably evil as Count Olaf. And since I can't stand him anyway, it was easy to hate him here.

Oh, Amanda doesn't know what she's talking about. She LOVED going to the movie! =) We went to the drive-in last night, spilled popcorn all over the rental car, fogged up the windows and had to clear them with napkins, and ate candy all night. It was fun. =)
