A Buckeye is a yummy candy concoction of chocolate and peanut butter - you can find a recipe here:

http://www.df.lth.se/~thanisa/cgi-bin/wrapper.cgi?rec.food.recipes/lacto/buckeye-candy

Oh wait, you're not talking about the candy, are you? Can't help you there, I didn't go to Ohio State.

OH GOLLY! Those Choc. Peanut Butter Buckeyes are my favorite! You can buy them at the Cracker Barrel Stores along the highway. (I'll have to put that recipe up on the Food for Thought board!)
Of course, there are the Lucky Buckeye Nuts that come from the Buckeye tree (Aesculus glabra). My granny is always giving me one to carry around in my pocket. If you carry it with a mercury dime, it'll bring you money!

Wouldn't you know it? The Orlando Knit Wit is a Buckeye ;-)

I grew up there. I've lived in FL since '88.

The common answer to what a buckeye is: It's a poisonous nut.
It's a dark brown nut with a light brown spot. Somebody thought it looked like a deer's eye. Carrying one in your pocket is supposed to bring you good luck.
Buckeye candies are made to look like buckeye nuts. I wouldn't carry them in my pocket, but they are yummy.

Then of course there's the old OSU joke. The problem with being a Buckeye is you don't know if you are a fan...
or just plain nuts

Crappie fisher how about crappie surfer? ;o) JJ

Welcome aboard Cfisher I saw your post on the SE group about visiting GA. Have fun out there, I know I did when I went for the Haunted Hike in October. If you get a chance set up an exchange time and place, the folks out there are very hospitible.
Tell everyone about AQ and get them to post their boxes.

Oh, don't listen to them. They like to exaggerate. I'm just a semi-god. *wink* Okay, maybe just a prophet. Yeah, that's it, a lowly prophet. *nodding*

If I'm in it for the profit, I made a very, very bad miscalculation somewhere.

However, on my hike today, I decided that I prefer Lt. Ryan. *nodding* Sounds authoritative without sounding like a dictator. =) One of my subjects when I was a shift manager at Pizza Hut liked to call me Lt. Ryan--in that scraggly voice used in Forest Gump. It was lots of fun. The good old days....

Ohio Trip

Hi! We are planning a trip to Coal Grove, OH in a few weeks and we'd like to hit as many letterboxes we can in the area. We've already located clues for Woodland, Lake Vesuvius and one in Coal Grove. We don't know the area so we don't know what others are nearby. Can anyone help?

Well I have not boxed there yet but check the following counties: Lawrence and Scioto, Ohio; Greenup and Boyd, Kentucky; Wayne and Cabbell, West Virginia. Those are all the closest ones to Coal Grove and looking at LBNA and here there are ten or more in each state for those counties plus I am pretty sure there is at least one mystery box, if not more. If you have more time the next group of counties are (KY) Lawrence, Carter, Lewis; (WV) Mason, Putnam, Lincoln, Kanawha; (OH) Gallia, Jackson, Pike. Let me know how you do since my family is from southern Ohio and I plan to start hitting some of these myself on the way through. *grin*

There's a very real chance we'll be heading out to Cincinnati in the next couple of days (or weeks) on some unpleasant business. Wondering if anybody would be interested in linking up with us for an exchange (or 5 for that matter--as a bunch of us boxers will be in town)?

Drop us a line ahead of time--if/when we end up going, we won't have much time from when we get the word til wheels up. Most likely we'll be in the Terrace Park, Montgomery area--although we may end up out towards Amberly Village, French Glen area. Regardless, we'll have a rental car, cell phone and will be able to drive all around. We typically hit a Skyline Chili somewhere during our visits (Covington/Cinci area) so perhaps that would be a good venue for a link up?

Where did you all go? I grew up in Ohio.
It might be awhile before I get up there next, but I hope to be the first to plant a box in Jefferson Co.

I'll be in Ohio the second week of August. I'll be in the Steubenville area and in Marblehead for a few days.

I'm really looking forward to 'boxing in my home state for the first time.

If anybody knows of anything going on in my home state, please let me know.

Thanks!

Dear Central Ohio Letterboxers,
Jim (EagleEyes) and I (M&8X) enjoyed the meet-ups at Scottie McBeans and have missed them these past few months. We would like to continue meeting monthly, but are unsure if there is still interest.
If you are interested in continuing these meetings, please send a reply to this message. If there is sufficient response, we would be willing to organize these monthly meetings as well as some seasonal events.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi,

Dan (no trail name) and I (Rosmarinus) would not be interested in a monthly meetup.

But we would be interested in a special event, such as:
1. A gathering where we would hide special boxes and invited letterboxers from around the state.
2. A "field trip" to Indianapolis or some other place with lots of boxes.

We would even help organize one of the above.

I would be interested in an Indiana or Ohio meet-up/gathering, whatever you wanna call it. :) Not necessarily monthly since I just started nursing school and am going to be very busy with that, but I'd love to attend another gathering. I've only been to one so far, but would love to do it again. :)

We're from Cleveland, so monthly meet-ups would be hard for us, having to travel a few hours to get there, but if there's any sort of special, seasonal gathering, if it fits into our schedules we'd be interested in attending.

Hi folks from Ohio!
I recently got an email about the Maine Event Stamp hitchhiker.

If you would be so kind, could the next finder please hang onto that gem and email me. I'd like it to be sent back with the log for some maintenance...

Thanks in advance,
