Nevada Gathering in 2005?

Anyone interested in organizing a Nevada gathering in 2005 in honor of the Las Vegas Centennial? Gronilot and I had talked about it but haven't revisited the idea in awhile. There are plenty of nice boxes to find in So. nevada and other parts of the state now...anyone up for it before it gets too hot?

I regretfully must decline your kind invitation, as I am hot on the hunt of Count Olaf.

I'm happy to report that I just received a report that the Welcome to Nevada letterbox is alive and well! =) I had gotten a couple of people who e-mailed me to say they thought the box was missing, but it seems the death of the box were greatly exaggerated and it's happily waiting for more visitors. =)

Happy trails!

Ryan,
Thanks for the deletion function, as I previously posted a message that had some spoilers included in the text. I thought I was responding to you directly.

Okay, I'll try it again. We found this letterbox on 2/19/2003.
Great looking stamp! When you posted info that it was missing I checked it the last time I went to Mesquite for a shoot, and I know it wasn't there. I scoured the spot, and even went along both angles away from the spot. I know that there was no letterbox in the vicinity. Is this a possible Nojoque Falls prank? You might want to double check the find date and the stamp image with the last finder.

There might be some prank going on, but by all accounts, the box does seem to be there now.

I did move the box to a slightly different location from the original location of the definitely missing box. When you mention going "along both angles away from the spot", I suspect you were looking in the old location and the box isn't along that wall anymore. Since the visitor's center is just an abanonded building (or at least it was when I last passed through), I decided to rehide it in view of the parking area. (Sure to go missing if the building is ever used for something again!)

I can double check the stamp image, though, though they definitely made it clear it was found just recently. I didn't ask about the stamp image, though.

Speaking of the Nojoque Falls prank--Amanda went there this afternoon to investigate and sure enough, her box was where your old box was located and your box is MIA. That's one of the weirdest stories I've heard. =) I can't think of any *logical* explaination for the happenings out there except perhaps aliens or teenage pranksters, though it does seem kind of like an odd prank to be playing.

Maybe in Indian lingo"Nojoque" means haunted.

I just got an e-mail today from someone who found the box. Originally, I planted it at the Nevada Welcome Center--which worked well until they picked up and moved their digs to Primm at which point it became an abandoned building. For the letterbox, that worked out well since now there wasn't anyone around to find it by accident.

Alas, I have just been informed that this abandoned building is no longer abandoned--it is now a Nevada Highway Patrol office!!! I do NOT like the idea of having one of my letterboxes hidden in the parking lot of the Nevada Highway Patrol office and if anyone is daring enough to still look for it, I'd greatly appreciate if you'd pull the box. I suggest going at night when the highway patrol aren't in the area to question your "suspicious activity". (I'm assuming it doesn't get used as much at night? But I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that!)

Sheeze! And I thought people were nuts trying to hide boxes at Disney World, and here I go accidentally hiding boxes in the parking lot of the highway patrol. *rolling eyes*

I am planning a trip to Vegas in April. Any suggestions of boxes? There do not appear to be many in the 'greater' Vegas area and I am not certain we are going to rent a car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look for any of artTrekker's letterboxes. Most of them will be closer to Lake Tahoe, but they are exceptional.

Are you going to make it to Tahoe? <jealousy setting in!>

lb.org has quite a few South Lake Tahoe, CA boxes listed. Emerald Bay and the like...

If you're just staying in Reno, maybe someone else can offer some help.

A few years ago we hiked to Eagle Lake (turns out there is a box there) The climb was 'stair-master au natural' (lots of stone steps) It was beautiful! I love this area.

So check out:

And have a great time!!

ArtTrekker is one of the best carvers on the west coast, all of her boxes are wonderful. Team King has a pair of nice boxes in Truckee, and 3 of Doublesaj n Old Blue's I-80 series boxes are worth the effort and only a short drive from Truckee.

In Reno, there is a park and arboretum on the east side of town that has a series of 3 letterboxes. We found the first two a few months ago. There is another older box in the same park, outside of the arboretum. If you are heading back west out of town, stop in Truckee. There is a small park that has two boxes that are very cleverly hidden. The carvings are nice and the setting is beautiful. Plan about half an hour there for the two boxes. Happy Boxing!

There's so few of us in Nevada I don't think the concept of getting a patch together has even been thought of before now...but, sure, I'd love to see one and if anyone else is interested, I'll organize a little contest like So Cal just did for theirs. But I need some guidance about this whole patch business, where they get made, etc... and especially, is anybody else interested?

Now that there's a few more of us here in the Silver State than in 2005 (when there were two of us), is there any interest in holding a gathering at some point this year? I have been so pleased to see the plethora of new boxes popping up around the state and I am finally going to have the time again to get more boxes pulled together this summer myself.

I'll be happy to help organize something, but I'd sure like a buddy or two on board to help plan and drum up interest.

What else would you like to know? Let us know what you think you are looking for...
Questions about a couple of Nevada boxes
Board: State: Nevada

I'm heading to Vegas for a few days to visit some friends and family. It's not a letterboxing trip, but I figure I might be able to finagle a few boxes out of it still. I'd love to go after some of the ones that require hiking someday, but the middle of the summer will not be that day. ;) So I've got a couple of drivebys in Primm picked out, and I had a couple more that I had questions about:

First, Don & Gwen's "After Image." It talks about going up a hill-- I'm just wondering about how big a hill this is. It's labeled as a drive-by here, so I'm figuring it's not far, but I want to make sure if anyone who's found it can give me an idea so I can convince my parents to stop (or not).

Second, does anyone know the status of this box: http://www.geocities.com/janalandhq/vegas.html
That page says it's there, but it also says the last update was 12/03.

This box was all but missing when I looked for it in September 2004. All that was there was the empty M&M container which I used to stamp in my log. We go to Vegas once a year and the one thing that I have learned is to wait until the day before we leave to check the box clues because they change from week to week there. What is here today is gone tomorrow.

Have fun though, there is a lot to do in Vegas besides gamble!

Hello Nevada boxers!

I will be in Las Vegas (and with a rental car) November 5 - 9. My husband and I are still getting our feet wet with letterboxing. Any recommendations or suggestions for nearby boxes? If anyone is in the area, exchanges would be nice too!

Thanks!

I'm rather fond of the White Rock Canyon boxes--you get a hot spring to soak in at the end of that hike! And even better, you don't even have to pack a bathing suit. ;o)
