What happened this weekend? Oceanwytch and Nautilus and Culex - not representing at the MG? You guys missed a wonderful weekend.

Looks like I'll just have to put something together for Maine this winter.

Wish we had been able to make it. It may just be a possibility to hold the second annual letterboxing at Laudholm gathering this winter/spring.....guess we'll have to talk Phyto.

It would be great to have another Letterboxing at Laudholm Gathering! I'm ready, just pick a good date. Perhaps a little later than the one we had this year....there was still snow on the ground.

Depending on the date I would be interested too! I am due to have my baby in late April/early May so June sounds more reasonable for me but whenever you do it I will try to make it. This would be my first gathering and I am eager to check it out! I might even be able to bring my letterboxing mom!

It's too early to start now, but Nautilus and I might scheme up another Laudholm event this spring. We did it on March 21st of 2004, and there was still snow on the ground. This year it might be nice to let it thaw a bit before another gathering ;-)

Wow, this board has been dead for a while. Has anyone been boxing lately? I've been spending most of my free time boxing around the state. MaineKokopellian reached his F-100 a few days ago at Phyto's Riverton Trolley Park! That means he reached is 100 in 3 months....I'm so proud! :)

Howdy Mainers!

I'm hoping to get some help from y'all with regard to planting a letterbox near Pemaquid Point.

My family is gathering up there in mid-October to commit my grandmother's ashes to the deep off the Point. We did the same thing with my grandfathers ashes 18 years ago and it was her wish to join him there when the time came. Granny spent most of her summers in Maine as a young girl so it always had special meaning to her. My grandparents used to spend 2 weeks in the spring and another 2 in the fall in that area every year. It is my hope to plant a letterbox in memory of my grandparents near the place that held such a special place in their hearts.

Anyway, I'm a fairly new letterboxer and this will be the first one I plant. I was wondering how to find out if the Pemaquid Point lighthouse facilities would be open to the idea of planting a letterbox on the property, or if anyone up there is familiar with the area and has a better idea. At this point, I'm wide open to suggestions and advice.

There are some boxes there already. We were just up there this summer - check LBNA for the nearby boxes in Lincoln County and perhaps contact those placers.

Pemaquid Point has a box already placed at the lighthouse - "Angel Gabriel" and it's a fine reason to visit this location. I also have a box at Ford Frederick (Fort William and Henry) as well as some boxes in nearby Boothbay Harbor and Bath.

I got a reply from the Angel Gabriel LB, she said that it would be appropriate to place a bonus clue in her LB, because it was placed to honor her ancestors emigration to the new world back in the 1650's. Their ship was called the Angel Gabriel. I'm getting really psyched about this.

We know that the gas prices were through the roof, and several groups also sustained some car trouble, but we were thrilled to see everyone again and also for the first time. I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, the boxing by the water, the event clues and Windjammer clues as well.

Ringmaster Phineas Boch and Ringmistress Phyto collaborated to bring a special event only appearance of Boch's Circus. These Circus themed boxes were available as part of the Belfast Historical Society's History Walking Tour. I hope that hiding the boxes as part of this downtown walking map also gave folks a chance to enjoy some of the rich history of Belfast.

This brings me to my final word of thanks for Norasta and her husband Guitarzan. These two trekked 9 hours from Kingston, Ontario for our event. They also hid 3 boxes before the event and posted clues. As we walked around after the event on Sunday to find some of your boxes, we realized that the "I Love Lobster" box was hidden in a spot we didn't even find on all of our adventures to Belfast. Thanks for placing some fine downtown boxes for us to enjoy. What a treat after a gathering!

To those that attempted "Ah La Noix!"...it is indeed missing...Cameooo was the first to find this box, and luckily in time before it escaped. It will be replaced at some point.

Thanks again for making this one of the most enjoyable gatherings that Phyto and Isosceles have ever attended!

We (Norasta and Guitarzan and Asta) are back home again after a great time in beautiful Maine! Thanks so much to Phyto and Isosceles for the fun. The treasure map and event clues were super - a lot of work, we certainly were impressed with the amazing stamps. Boxing "in town" was a nice change and gave me some ideas for our gathering in May.
It was a real treat meeting new boxers and we hope to see you again if you venture west (and maybe north). We definitely will be returing for more coastal hospitality - and lobster!

WOW .The wildcats will reach 100 boxes found this weekend too ! and we only started the weekend of the 3rd of september ,Its all we do on weekends now ! ITS THE HUNT!!! it got us and won't let go .We are dreading winter .Wish we had learned about letterboxing long time ago . IT was that first box that got us ,Just call us mad lololol

Well, I was planning to try to get a couple more boxes planted before the first snowfall. But today the area I live in got its first snow, and its supposed to continue tomorrow. So I guess that didnt happen.


But the boxes are all made up, just have to plant, and one of these boxes is going to be pretty urban, so I will still get that one out if I can.

The Autumn themed box I made might have to wait awhile since I might not get to go hiking for a bit.

Not till I have winter hiking gear anyway.

We'll look forward to the day you can plant them. Maine is one of my prime targets in the coming year. Enjoy the snow!!!

I have so many ideas right now for stamps and for locations that its too bad the bad weather has to come now. I'll try to be a good patient, letterboxer.

But Im also not letting the snow stop me from all my plantings....there are just some that shall have to wait.

I haven't been out since early november (with the exeption of the one-night-only indoor box palette in december) and I really miss boxing!!!


Maybe some more indoor appearances like the one Phishychick did would be good for Mainers.

Well, I'm not from Maine, but I did a bit of 'boxing last week -- of course I was in Southern California at the time!

I have no problem 'boxing in the winter, but it's been too cold for me lately. I'm more inclined to do drive by boxes than hikes though. When the temps hit the 50s (as I guess they did here in MA last week), I might be more tempted to go -- although I wonder how difficult spring boxing will be with the mud and water!

I know what you mean - I'm not keen on boxing in the cold and snow either. I discovered virtual letterboxing in November and since then I've been busy creating and finding virtuals.

There are over 100 virtuals. I've created over 25 and I sure would like more finders.

The JARS virtuals include carved images of stamps that I carved myself.

it was in the 50's here in Maine too but it was rainy much of the time.

The mud will be interesting. Maybe bringing a change of socks and wearing good waterproof stuff will help??

I started finding one of these once and got stumped and gave up. :(

but I think its a great idea and i even thought of starting my own sometime. Knowing there is a stamp image at the end to print out would make it worth it so I'll keep yours in mind! :)

I was only on the LBNA site for a long time, but now that I'm on atlasquest too and there are so many virtual boxes, its worth revisiting.

Some have suggested that my virtuals would be suitable for kids (i.e. they're fairly easy). I think it's true for many of them, especially the earlier ones, like Bridge View,

No boxing in the winter for us. We saved a lot of the indoor locations we knew about, for the winter time, for those days we get couped up inside and feel the urge to box. ;)

Then we have somewhere to go, and it's warm! yayyyy! ;)

Went boxing last weekend in Indiana. Gee whillikers but it was cold, but we had a great time. At least there was no snow.

I was visiting my daughter in Vermont last weekend. It was an absolute 2 degrees with a really stiff wind.... found 2 boxes and planted 7... Gotta love the winter!!! (PS.. I grew up in Vermont...and the winters are the best!).... I take a dog or two with me and it looks like I'm walking my dog in the snow!
