I live in Houston, TX, grew up in St. Louis Mo, but both of my parents are from SE Arkansas (Bradley & Dallas counties). I still have relatives there, so keep hoping to make a letterboxing trip there, but haven't been able to yet!

I've been there. I found the box and stamped in but it took twice as long to rehide because of the traffic. I just sat on the bench and waited, I wasn't on a schedule.

Did you want me to try to check up on your HH?

well, seeing that i planted a HH in arkansas, i had to stop in here and say something. Arkansas was a very beautiful place. my visit north of Louisiana was awesome except for the deer that i almost hit on the highway. well, someone hit it first so it was easy to miss, but thats not the point. While i visited the state, i couldn't help but notice how lonely letterboxing is in Arkansas. damn it man. your state needs some more. if i sent a box to one of you guys down there, could you plant it for me and watch over it too! i have 44 boxes in new hampshire and 1 in Louisiana(my brother watches over it). I want to have a few more boxes out there and help boxing out in other parts of the country. new york is coming and north dakota is too! just spreading the wealth. let me know.

I wouldn't mind planting for you. I have a few places in mind. I found out that our state parks allow boxing and caching by permit only. That kinda restricts the good places. I plan to talk to one of the rangers (which is the first step in getting a permit) and seeing if there is a way to streamline the process so that I don't have to go through the whole process everytime. You know how slow governments can be.

Hi I'm a newbie on this site but the family and I have been letterboxing since 2003. We were just at the American Eagle location this past Saturday but couldn't find it :(. We're not convinced it's gone so the kids and I will be heading back there tomorrow to try again.
Any hints to help us along???
Cheers,
MustangSally

I am going to make a quick trip to Arkansas for a family funeral the end of this week. Because I just got off a long road trip, I'll fly to Little Rock and rent a car.

My family is in SE Arkansas, Bradley & Dallas Counties (funeral's in Fordyce, my mom's hometown), so that's the general direction I'll head. I should have a couple of hours Friday morning to letterbox in Little Rock before I have to meet the family.

I don't want to get there too early, my cousins are difficult under normal circumstances, so letterboxing for a bit would be perfect!

Are there any shouldn't-miss boxes? Come on, Shiloh, no need to be modest!

I've tagged Center of the Universe and Hart of the Rock, but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I'll bring my Cotton Belt stamp that I carved for the TX RR gathering as I hope to hide it in a park near Fordyce if I get a chance (unsure of how things will go). Fordyce's annual festival is called Fordyce on the Cotton Belt, so it celebrates the town's rr past. Clearly, family and family things have to come first once I "check in."

Thanks for any suggestions.

I have four in Burns Park. One is basicly a drive by *covered bridge*. The other three are on a 5 mile hiking trail.

Three easy ones would be the American Eagle in the river market area ( which is kind of a neat place in it's self) the Mount Holly Cemetary is also easy and there are two in the library at the Aerospace center.

Your Fordyce plant will be the only one south of Little Rock. At lest THAT far south. The Lorance creek box is south but I've made two trips and still haven't found it so I can't be sure it's still there.

If you thnk you'll have time in the afternoon while your in LR let me know. Maybe we could meet for an exchange.

It's possible that the cleaning crew swept it up. It was in a small metal box on the floor behind a wheel on one of the carts. It took me a couple of trips to find it.

Hey Shiloh,

I was thinking of trying to tackle the 'covered bridge', 'tree sprite', 'Rock Gnome', and 'field of mushrooms' in one fell swoop this weekend (if the weather and mosquitos behave). How long would you say that trek is in total. It's possible, if friends come along, we could be toting 7 kids. Would we have to do the whole 5 mile loop? or is it beneficial to just turn around and head back to the bridge after the last box?

Thanks,
MustangSally

Once you get to the field of mushrooms your closer to the bridge than if you backtracked.

Here's a hint though, park one car at the *Boy Scout Trailhead* That's where you'll come out.

I should also mention that you should stop at the visitors center and get a map of the trails. It's not 100% accurate but some of the trail markers can be confusing.

As near as I can tell from the maps....yes but like I mentioned the maps are not 100% accurate so I can't say for sure. For arguments sake we'll say it's 5 miles. I didn't feel tired enough for it to be that long though.

Shiloh,

You mentioned that caching is by permit only in State parks, which lets out Marks Mill for me. Do you happen to know if there's a policy on lands administered by the Game & Fish Commission? I'm interested specifically in Tri-County lake in Calhoun County.

I do not have time to file a permit, will err on the side of dunno, but won't willingly plant if there's a prohibition.

I also found this geocache/letterbox hybrid on geocaching.com--so here's another letterbox south of little rock! I didn't see it on letterboxing.org even though they mention it in the clues.
