I had a friend back in Baltimore who made all sorts of crazy clothes using rubber stamps and vintage printers' blocks. I'm not sure how he did it. I believe he used textile inks.

I've done loads of stencilling on fabric, and I love the products made by Pro Chemical and Dye.

Here's a sample of some of the oversized work I've done:

I like Stampin' Up products. They have a nice selection of quality rubber stamps and inks. They also have bigger stamps that you can use to stamp on walls and such. They have regular ink pads and ink pads that they call Stays-On. I would imagine these would work great on textiles.

My best (first time) is about 32 seconds. It's usually around a minute average. It took me awhile to get really good though. I was first introduced to this game in college. We start drinking (gasp, I know) and then try to play it. There's be about 5 or 6 of us around the table trying to find as many sets as we could. I wish I had pictures of that!

My friend and I are rabid about playing. It nearly gets violent.

She has tied me, but hasn't beaten me yet.

We also e-mail our SET times when we do well on the daily puzzle. I will often have an e-mail that just says in the subject "29 seconds".

Sad, I know.

My mother saw the original post and said that when she saw the subject, she was absolutely sure I was the one who brought it up.

No, I just replied a million times to profess my love of SET. It's funny that there are others who letterbox, visit AQ a lot and love the game.

Now, if anyone had also replied to my Paint by Numbers post, that would have been very funny.

I just read Springchicks blog "Just say no" and decided to go to the site. Here is the place to buy 'magents' what ever the heck those are. You can buy scented carving medium in apple and other fragrances so you can give those little critters out there something different to chew on.
I'm not sure if Ryan has given permission to link up to his code of conduct, but I originally sent my input under Safety part II to Ryan for AQ use.

I didn't give permission, but I don't mind links to it. It has some good information that every letterboxer should be aware of, so I'm not really inclined to stiffle such information. Nor is it illegal for her to create such a link--it's how the web works. I never got permission to link to LbNA, for instance. Though, if for some bizarre reason, someone didn't like a link to their website, I'd be more than happy to remove it. I'm not out to give people publicity they'd rather not have.

If she linked to clues, I'd be more concerned about that only because I suspect a lot of people don't want links to their clues and I'd try to respect their wishes. But for the most part, people are free to link to AQ or the Code of Conduct from whatever website they wish without permission. Heck, there's even a page so people can use 'official' AQ banners to point back to this site. =)

Quote I originally sent my input under Safety part II to Ryan for AQ use

It's still being used by AQ, and only on AQ. Well, actually, I think it might be on Silent Doug's website and possibly a couple of other places where you e-mailed it to, but so far as I know, it's only on websites you've approved. If it's something you really don't want others to link to, it really shouldn't be public at all. She's not trying to take credit for your page, she hasn't copied the page to her own site, and doesn't even link directly to your page. They'd have to navigate at least one other AQ page before someone can hit on your page.

But I can take it off if it bothers you. At least one person e-mailed me swearing off AQ because they think I'm a big gun advocate after reading your little sermon, so maybe he'll come back if I do. ;o)

Just kidding. Well, the e-mail is true enough, but I thought it was pretty amusing since I'm of the mindset that most letterboxers probably should NOT be carrying guns into the woods, but I can still respect those with differing opinions. I think it's hilarious he thought I was such a big gun advocate, though. =) And I didn't mind him swearing off AQ either--I'd rather have more open-minded people on the website than people who demands everyone to think like they do. I did suggest he could even post a rebuttle to the page on the message boards (I'm open to civil discussions!), but he didn't take me up on that offer. *shrug*

But I digress......

I don't have a problem with people linking to the Code of Conduct on AQ, though I don't want them copying it for their own site. It's good information that people should know, regardless of the website they were on when the discovered it. And if it's a big problem for you, let me know and maybe we can find another place for your page. I just don't think it's a particularly big deal, though.

As for the Letterboxing Adventures website, I can't find anything of value on the site at all. The best information are links to other websites, and the products seem kind of cheesy. Where's the MasterCarve and SpeedyStamp? I'm really surprised a website catering to letterboxers wouldn't provide those critical items. But hey, if people do think it's useful, more power to them. =) People have needs and if someone can provide solutions for those needs, that's great. I don't see the site as a solution provider, though, and more likely than not, almost guaranteed to fail as a result. I'm not trying to be mean or cruel, but I just call it like I see it. *shrug*

But if or when that happens, links will be a moot point. =)

Have a idea for a bunch of boxes.....a calendar series. If I got a really GOOD location, I thought I could change the stamp the first of each month. QUESTION....how would these count? It wouldn't be fair to count it just once if a seeker frequented it each month for the new stamp.

Just kicking this around and would like input.

Well, Knitica has a 'series' that she's doing here in Buffalo, and the stamp in it changes everytime she changes for a show...but, she actually makes a whole new box listing on AQ for it, and it's a new box, in my opinion.

If you did that, and set it up so that each month had it's own listing, with the clues, for example, telling finders that it's availible only during the month of May or whatever, you could list each one as it's own box, and each with it's own find.

Now that I'm a little smarter and better about how to secure websites from hackers--or at least I think I do--I've changed it so boxes can use pretty much any name under the sun. Whatever bizarre or weird characters you want to use--AQ should take it without complaining about invalid characters.

Trailnames have other complications involved, so I won't be expanding the character set available for that, but box names are now open for just about any characters you want. =)

Ahhh, and if there's a problem, let me know. I think I fixed everything so it's good to go, but it's astonishing how easy it is to overlook some small detail that ends up breaking something unexpected. =)

I have The Festival Letterbox that features stamps pertaining to the biblical festivals; they rotate throughout the year, but it only counts for one find, as they only 'find' the box and stamp-in once. It is a beautiful place to go and play on the beach. I have found that boxers do return to see and collect the different stamps, even though it does not count as more finds.

It will be interesting to hear what others say about this...

you could always make the log to reflect the new stamp. also move the letterbox a few feet, under a different bush or different tree or rock. that way when you update the clues, it will be a new plant. or just leave it in same spot. with new stamp and log i would consider it a new find.
but it is your box, and who ever finds it can count it the way they want to. isnt that how the game is played??
thats my opinion, but i could be wrong.

Does this include length of box name? Because I've had a few that I wanted a few extra letters in the name, but it didn't quite fit...

What is the maximum length, anyway? I never bothered to count.

Well, no, I didn't change that. =) The maximum length is 50 characters, though it *could* get cut shorter if you use special HTML characters that need to be expanded such as double quotes (") or ampersands (&).

Hmm..... Trail names are particularly challenging because weird characters can make it hard for searches to match. (In theory, you'd want someone searching for 'dalphinus' to be able to find you, since that's who they clearly mean!) As it is now, AQ keeps track of trail names and usernames separately. For the most part, you won't see the difference, but trail names are the 'user friendly' term that should be displayed by AQ when showing who a post or box is by, while the username is the name that AQ actually uses for searches. (Right now, it's stripped of spaces to insure someone searching for GreenTortuga or Green Tortuga, for example, both will match the username GreenTortuga.)

I haven't developed a convenient system for converting between trailnames and usernames, though, which is why I generally don't like to allow specical characters. One of these days I probably will, but for now, it'll cause problems I'm not really prepared to deal with. =(

Actually, it'll probably cause problems when it comes to box names too, but at least there people can do partial matches to find what they're looking for and most people usually click to a box from a search rather than look up a specific box.

I know & is a popular request for trail names, though. =) I'll probably have to convert it to 'and' as the username to get it so people can match "Jack & Jill" with "Jack and Jill". Or maybe vice-versa. But I definitely need some sort of convertion so I don't get lots of e-mails about why they can't find "Jack & Jill" when they really searched for "Jack and Jill".

It's all very complicated. *nodding* =) But in case anyone was wondering why I limit what letters can be used in trail names, that's the main reason.

Well, I'm still fairly new at this game, so perhaps you should weight my opinion appropriately. But it seems to me that if you figure out clues and find a box, that's a find. If you know where it is and find it again, that's not, even if the stamp has changed. That's a bonus.

My 2 cents.
