Dewberry,

I had a post all typed out. Then, thought twice about saying it. I still consider myself new. And, since I have not even got up the nerve to tackle a mystery yet, I deleted it.

You know, when the time comes, I'll be the one saying, "OMG, this box was right here. Remember when we came and got that other box, we were right here." It would be so funny.

That's how boxing is for me still. All these years I've been sitting, walking, driving by all these treasures. Too cool.

Happy New Year,

...if two boxes are planted close to each other?

Happy New Year Everyone!!
I can only reply to this as a "finder" right now... We have been to one park several times that has at least two different planters in it... We pondered over the fact that neither planter had found the other's box and whether to tell them or not when we recorded our find... But we decided not to... We didn't realize they were even in the same Park when looking at the clues because each planter took us in from a different area..
We didn't realize this until we went looking for the 2nd box... and they were planted within 5 feet of each other... hahaha... We figured they'd figure it out soon enough but I'm dying to tell but I won't... haha
I'm not sure how I'd feel if I thought someone "Intentionally" was following my plants and planting right along beside me... hmmmm... Haven't run into any problems like that in our area.. We only had about 5 planters when we started in July but think we're up to about a dozen now, so this may come up later...
JMO Folks....
Again, Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for sharing your knowledge..

WHERE'S RYAN??? Who let that other one out of his nicely padded safe place? Is someone out of his ever-loving mind? While our great and glorious leader battles man-eating mosquitos, black-hole swallowing blisters, and fluffy yellow chicken-eating gators, he left WHO in charge? What is the matter with him? What was he thinking? Is there anyone out there who can safe us from the wicked, blogging, substitute webmaster?

Quote I think, rather than having a mechanism whereby someone adopts a box when a proscribed set of circumstances comes to pass, that your original idea be modified to become a mechanism to drop listings.

There exists a mechanism for putting boxes up for adoption after a year -- that's not my idea, that's existing setup. My idea is for an acceptable method for allowing planters to hide finds/attempts.

Either way, though, I don't think anyone would ever propose a method to automatically drop listings. I'm not even sure anyone would want a mechanism to automatically declare them unavailable or retired. I think the existing method -- allowing the box to be adopted after one year of inactivity from the owner, and then the adopter can change the status as he sees fit -- is a good scheme and arguably all that's needed. Perhaps the only change I might suggest there is to require that the adopter be someone who had actually found the box at one time or another -- but that change would make it harder to get the status changed on listings, not easier.

I made some LTCs using my PT stamp. I figured I would award those who solved my PT with this card. So could it be both a PT find and a LTC find all in one?

what are your feelings?
and would you want one?

~Aurora
originally had this on the LTC board, moved it here to get the opinions of those who do not necessarily collect LTCs

Quote A box was recently planted in my area and reading through the clue, I realized that it was literally within feet of one of my own boxes. ...does it really matter?

With geocaches, that's trouble because people search an area for a cache. They'll come up with anything within 50 feet sooner or later. With letterboxes, though, hopefully the clues tell the finder exactly where to find the box. As long as the clues aren't too confusing for either box, someone searching for one may go straight to that box and never even realize there's another box there.

It's now one hour after midnight here. Happy New Year to all. BTW Sprite, had occasion to check on cold storage as I was there checking on something else. It is there and fine, but uncovered. I put a bigger rock in front of it as you could see it from the car.

Thanks TT for reminding me of Moose and the ping pong balls. And how about grandfather clock? I watched CK every morning at 9:00 on CBS. I didn't realize it was on later in the day at one time. Was that here in Ohio?

And I loved Lucy's Toyshop. Did the jumping jacks with her all the time. I have a faint memory of meeting her once at the Ohio State Fair when I was about 4. And I loved all her puppets. It was a sad day when we lost that local legend. And you could visit Mr. Tree at downtown (Col's) Lazarus store during Santa season. Much fun!!

Talking about after school memories, mine was watching Flippo every day at 4:00.

Hmmm...DW - maybe we need to get a series started? Childhood memories of the 40 & 50 somethings. (who needs thirtysomething...ha!)

Quote So you pulled all your clues from Atlas Quest.... why? Seems like it would have made more sense just to pull the clues to boxes that "really spoils the clue" for you.

As I recall, you posted a public invitation for me to leave AQ:

Maybe something new. A PT-LTC. I would probably specify it as a PT that is a limited edition, maybe for a specific event and retire it after they are gone. You could then make a new limited edition run with the same stamp but a different layout or some kind of change in the design and make it available as a PT.

Short answer . . . yes.

Long answer . . . why not? ;-) Seriously, the same would happen if someone reused a postal or an event stamp. You are not logging a find twice. An LTC is not a letterbox at all.
