I just want to know that when I hit AQ on my favorites it will go where it is supposed to go?

Yes, don't worry about it. I'm half sorry I even brought it up if I realized it would cause so much confusion.

NOTHING WILL CHANGE.

NOBODY HAS TO CHANGE ANYTHING.

I only mentioned the IP addresses just in case I screwed something up--it was nothing more than a precaution that, happily, does not seem to be necessary.

So, is this the Google geocoder having problems resolving some addresses, like your IP address? Couldn't you just give it the latitude/longitude instead? Or maybe the IP address is located near a park, I understand that it can find parks pretty good.

Actually, even though I don't think I've mentioned it, the geocoder will take latitude and longitude coordinates if that's what you prefer. ;o)

Quote Cootie problems: Do you all find that all the cooties in your area end up getting "junked?"

I think getting 'junked' has always been part of a Cootie's life. They are often made with a person, or an event in mind. So long as they have been enjoyed by the person/people that were the initial target then anything else is a bonus.

A lot of people get worried about what to do with Cooties, when will they ever be able to pass them on? I think this is unnecessary, if they can be passed on great, if not you have been the target of a bit of fun, enjoyed them and that is the end of the story. No great worries.

Quote How long do you think is too long to have a HH in a hostel?

I think it depends on the HH. If the HH has been going around the area for a long time and most locals have found it I don't worry about moving it on. It is there for the occasional 'foreigner' or newbie to find as they often make a beeline for a Hostel. If it is a newish HH then I move them on everytime I visit the Hostel (making sure I have some replacements so the Hostel doesn't become empty).

Quote Oh, I loooooove a challenging drive-by ;-))

So what do you consider a challenging drive-by Mama Fox? Is it one where the only place to park is with your back wheels on peat bog after 4 days of rain?

Or is it when you can park easily, but the letterbox is out of reach of the fishing net when you poke it out of your window?

I think both of those definately qualify! Sounds like you are speaking from personal experience ;-))

Here in NC, though we are having a drought - so I'm afraid I won't be challenged in these ways anytime soon...... However, for the future, how long of a fishing net do you recommend - I might get one to keep in my car, just in case ;-))

a parasite is a hitchhiker that only hitches rides from one hitchhiker to the next. it is carried places by boxers that carry the hitchhiker it is attached to. and when that boxer has two hitchhikers in thier possession, it moves to another hitchhiker.

a flea can be stuffed anywhere to move it along. you can pretend it is a parasite and stick it in the bag with a hitchhiker. you can pretend it is a hitchhiker and stick it in any box you find. you can slide it into any postal that leaves your possession (if it doesn't weigh much), you can pretend it is a cootie and sneak up behind another boxer and drop it in the open pocket of their backpack, or the hood of their jacket, or (insert your favorite method of cootieing here). As long as the poor little thing keeps moving, nobody cares how it moves.

Quote How long do you think is too long to have a HH in a hostel?

I don't think there is any length of time that is too long. I think it really depends on the number of visitors. Some hostels could get visited everyday and then I would say a week is too long. Some may only get visited once a year, to that I would say two years is too long. Obviously these are rediculous extremes but you get my point.

In order to minimize the amount of time a HH stays in a particular Hostel, I find it helpful to only require a one HH minimum as opposed to 2 or three. That way, most of the time, anyone visiting will be able to exchange a hitchhiker but they won't be able to choose "the best one", leaving the "runt" behind.

Additionally, don't make some kind of statement like "in order to take one you must leave one". The requirement of at least one in the box is good enough. I occasionally visit my hostel and unload a few hitchhikers. If people aren't able to take the extra (any above one) hitchhikers, then the box will eventually overflow.

Okay Mainers, there is a new box in town. Stop by and See Box of the Month: Just passing Through. It will be in place the first of the month for three weeks then a new box will be placed in the same spot at the first of the following month. This will happen for a year with a new carver each month. It's easy to find so when the snow flies, we can still get to it thought it may be a bit more of a challenge. Shouldn't take you more that 20 minutes round trip (in the snow) and we Mainers can do that with no problem. So let's be sure and support our visitors from away by stamping up. Thanks, Teacup

Thanks Mama Fox! I don't think I'm going for the 10 mile hike, that would take up most of my day. I think I'll do alot of socializing and exchanges and then since it isn't that far of a ride, we could go back for a weekend sometime. I can always bribe hubby with a motorcycle trip as long as I have someone to watch the two baby dawgs. I'm working on cooties and I've got to make two more PTs and the "big Dawg" is looking forward to the coffee, while the Pound Princess is practicing giveing everybody cooties. She even gave my grandpa one yesterday and he just had no idea what she was talking about. Baby Dawg gets them a couple times a day and we had to go and buy her a little basket for her bike so she can have someway to carry them on Saturday! We're very excited as you can see!

9 days til the Table!!

Yeah, you seem to have confused everyone. LOL

Maybe this will help people... think of it like a phone number. When you type 'www.atlasquest.com' your computer does not actually know how to contact AQ so has to check an phone book for the number. Every internet provider has their own so there are THOUSANDS of phone books out there but they all have the same information in them. Right now, the phone number listed in the internet phone books for Atlasquest is 38.119.120.169 but that number is in the process of changing to 74.200.76.117. The "issue" is that it takes time for ALL of those phone books to get updated, meaning that for a day or two your computer may be looking in one that still has the old number and that number has been disconnected but if you manually tell your computer where to find AQ (ie, type 74.200.76.117 instead of www.atlasquest.com) then you can bypass the phone book and still get here.

OK, so I'm feeling really guilty right now. Go ahead and send over the "bad letterboxer of the day" award to me. I started off peeling everything off and lately, I've been so overwhelmed with work and PLBs until I haven't done anything but maybe pull the old lable off. I do pull off stamps because I keep them alos. I'll have to send the extras to littlmoons kids if they want them. That'd be a great way to get rid of duplicates. I will do better with any that i receive from here on out. Sorry everybody!! :( No halloween candy for me today as punishment!!!
