I 100% agree with this statement, but....
Let's put this in perspective.
I've been to many gatherings and I usually have very few exchanges and PTs to seek out. Still I find that 6 or 8 hours hardly seems enough time. Most of the folks that will be taking this ride have already met each other and it will be great fun I am sure. The "guests of honor" have not. Spending 45 minutes with their nose in a logbook probably isn't going to make the trolley ride enjoyable, because it is a trolley ride. The enjoyable part for them is the exchanging and meeting. Feeling pressured to do all this in 45 minutes will probably take away from the letterboxing experience.
The rest of the folks can always do the trolley thing at a more convenient time.

S-N-K,
I'm SO sad to hear this!!! Please don't worry about slowing down (or even taking a break) in letterboxing. Spend the time you need for yourself and know that you have a lot of supporters and friends here if you need us.
Hugs,
Amyrica

Head Up All,
I went to our local 'Dollar Tree' just to browse. In the school supplies they had these pretty pink erasers with 'For BIG Mistakes' printed on one side. I buy me one to try carving, carved me a bear for the LTC's Voyage #2. It was like carving melted butter. Wish my wood carved so easy. So I go back and get all they had on display. I hope they keep these in stock! Oh! The size is 1-7/8" wide (just shy of 2") X 5" long X 7/8" thick (just shy of 1"). My stamp inked up and made a good impression.
I'm impressed

Dollar Tree also has some white erasers in the school supply section that are amazing! They carve really well and you get a lot for $1... three big or six small.
I have the big eraser for big mistakes, too, but haven't tried it yet. :)

100 is low, at one point there were like 200 on my list. Shoebee is happier now that there's less. :)

75% -- D. The last stamp I carved (Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale) came out absolutely perfect on the first stamping. I'm very good at recognizing trouble spots that will affect the final impression.
25% -- 2 or 3, usually to check that enough excess around the stampable surface has been excavated.

Depends on the detail of the image and the type of carving material I am using. So at least 3, up to 20 for one stamp I rememeber.

I got the "big mistakes" eraser thinking it may actually work for "big mistakes" (like backing the car into something, saying the wrong thing to my boss when she's in a bad mood, my husband finding out I spent more money than I should have...)
Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way. I even went back and bought 6 more thinking, "more is better".
I guess now, I can use them for carving...

Do you mean stamping as you carve? Or stamping after you are done?
I rarely stamp as I carve a stamp. The ink invariably mucks up the transfer. If I think I've really screwed it up, I'll stamp or if it's large, I will sometimes stamp a portion of it. This is rare for me to do though. I usually wait until I am done and stamp it a few times to see.
If you do stamp as you go for detail, how do you keep the ink from obscuring the details?

Speaking from experience, you can go two ways when this happens to you. You can wallow in self-pity or look upon it as an opportunity to reinvent yourself and enrich your life. After some necessary pain (divorce goes through the same stages as death) you will have the opportunity to choose which path you will take. I hope you choose the latter! Good luck and god bless.

I see you like Newsboys. I love them too! One of their songs just popped into my head and I feel like I should share with you. "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." You know that song, right? Play it, listen, and do as it says. haha! I say that with love and compassion for you. Please know this pain and heartache won't last forever. Hug, hug, hug and more hugs to you.

This sounds like such a fun project, and I haven't done any postals in a long time, so I'm intrigued and wanting to participate.
Unfortunately, I can't always find the time to get to the post office on a regular basis. I work 10 and 12 hour days oftentimes, and can get into 60-hour work weeks without warning, and if a box is waiting to be taken care of during that time, there's not always a chance that I can get to a post office when I'm never in town. I guess maybe I could compile a list of post offices along the I-5 corridor near all my job sites...
Well, just how particular are people these days about getting things back out the door in 24 or 48 hours, as seemed to be the standard previously?

Hey, I got an idea....(and I'm NOT trying to be funny here!)....you could carve a stamp. It can be therapeutic sometimes. Seriously. I did that when my relationship endedm and I had thought we were going to get married. I cried through some of the carving, and wanted to take that tool and gouge the stamps eyes out sometimes! But I sent it out as a postal and got loads of support. It was helpful to create the PLB and more helpful to receive it back and read the entries in the book.
Maybe I shouldn't give unsolicited "advice." I don't mean to do that in a pushy way. I just wanted to share, and let you know that I truly care. More hugs and prayers coming your way. :)

the dark red, thin ones are what I have used...and they have held up very well in boxes in the wild for over a year...one of them get's alot of traffic and is doing fine.
