Perhaps, once a finder clicks "Record Find" on the listing, the default should be that all the individual boxes in a series are already checked. You'd have the option to change the check to attempted or N/A as appropriate.

Or perhaps, if you click on "Record Find" and then try to close up without checking any boxes, AQ should remind you that you need to check boxes.

I always carry black and sepia ink pads. But for markers I found the crayola $.99 work as well as the much more expensive marvey.

I carry ink pads in several commonly used colors, and said this recently on another thread:

I find it's difficult to ink up a stamp with multiple colors while standing alone in the woods. I think everyone should try stamping every stamp they carve, but not at the dining room table ~ out in the yard after a rain ;~) And No, you can't sit down!

I stand by it. Carvers, please test your color scheme outdoors, by yourself - no helpers. Find out how hard it is or isn't, and make it realistic - don't sit or kneel, or place any of your stuff on the wet, muddy trail (even if it isn't wet & muddy right now).

When faced with a complex, multi-colored stamp on the trail, I use my Versafine black or sepia on the whole stamp, and wipe it off afterwards on the back flyleaf of my logbook. The planter's original colors still show on the stamp, guiding the next finder. I have tried markers twice (two time periods, not two stamps) - and two kinds of markers. For me, it's a dexterity problem. They are very difficult to use standing up, and the color of the image is weak because of the time it takes to prepare the stamp.

In conclusion (seems like a speech ~ sorry), this whole issue vexes me each time I encounter a fancy, colorful stamp in the woods. It makes me feel guilty for not following the carver's wishes, yet I can't manage to do what the other kids are doing, and so I must stick with my solution, knowing that if everyone else stamped with black or brown, and then wiped it off, the stamp would eventually be black, so I am setting a bad example. Yikes, here I am telling all about it, too!

For those that use teardrops, are they water based or pigment?

But if you click them all but did not find box 5 , then change box 5 to not found. You have then clicked twice for a 20 box series instead of clicking 20 times.

I never meant to suggest you would leave found on boxes you did not find.:)

Once you click the find all , then change box 5 that you didn't find (for all the reasons you mentioned ) to not found. You have then clicked twice instead of 20 times.
My fat fingers are not so good for clicking on small cell phone.
I never intended to suggest adding boxes one didn't find ☺

I do the same. I like to have different colors in my logbook, so I have some dew drops and some small 1 inch ink pads. I keep them in a plastic pencil box.

In general, I was wondering how many boxers might be on a particular cruise ship and if it would be feasible to plant a box or arrange a meet-up. Is there a board or way to set up a temporary box where boxers would find it listed? I know larger cruise ships have info boards near guest relations where someone can try to match up diff organizations. But we would need to know prior to getting on a ship whether to bring our trail bag.

I was on only one cruise, but it was Disney, and cabin doors had all sorts of decorations. You could try hanging a box in your door. I only brought my signature stamp and some small ink pads, and used postcards for anything stamped. Found boxes at ports, but didn’t advertise myself as a boxer or seek out others on the cruise.

I just found this on AQ help:

Are there any other letterboxes planted on cruise ships and how would we find out about them?

If you want to find letterboxes planted on or near cruise ships, you should search the database using the keyword "cruiseship" to filter the listings. Keywords are not required, but the search will produce a number of results.

So then I was curious and did a search using keyword cruiseship. I got this: cruise ship boxes. You can see how other people have listed them.

Thanks for all the help, folks--especially green tortuga for straightening us out and paper trail for updating our box numbers! We've grouped them all under Box #296100 (the original 3rd in the series, but with the easiest box number) and wiped out the original listings of the others since no one had found them yet!

It's barely 11:30 and I already have had two bowls of vanilla ice cresm with non-child slave labor chocolate syrup. And everyone will tell you, I don't really eat ice cream. And certainly not at 11 in the morning.

Things are pretty bad.

I really hate cancer, guys. I reallllyyyy do.

Not me but my best friend's 4 yo grandbaby.

And that was just this morning. Yesterday was pretty crappy too, but for work related reasons. When you are on their crap list, they'll let you know it.

Anyone out there do mochila
I just today learned about it.
What I know:
mochila means backpack
mochila is apparently the adopted word for a style of crocheting and patterns
you need to carry at least three strands (even if it just one color)
cotton seems to be the material of choice
use a hook a bit smaller than recommended the yarn manufacturer

what else should I know before I do this?

great, something else to fill my hours.

Hi -

Is anyone interested in several slabs of SLQ? I'll sell it to you for what I paid for it ($8/slab) plus shipping to you. All slabs are 4x6, still in new packaging: one each of peach, lime green, light green, light blue, teal green.

Let me know --
Thanks,

I've always preferred the colors over the white SLQ; I found the white kind of gummy, and it held the goudge for me. So, the colors are a smoother carve from my point of view --

That is pretty much the opposite of stealthy. I always know someone (well, not always) is in town because I start seeing logs on my boxes. You could always check the ship boxes for finds. Not foolproof if they don't log right away, but protective of others' plants at least.
The best way is to arrange this before you go, on AQ (set up an event, maybe?) or ask on the boards if anyone else is going and wants to meet up, so that you are not outing other people's boxes. If they are yours, you can whatever you want, of course, but this supposed be a stealthy endeavor.
If it's already an event, check the sign-ups.
One last thing, LB patches, inky fingers, people waking around looking at clues near locations where you know there are boxes are dead giveaways. If they have any integrity at all and you ask them what they are doing, they should lie! If you ask them point-blank if they are boxing, they will know you know and there's no point fibbing. We've met people on the trail and this little dance is so much fun.

You are forgiven. At least by me, which counts for exactly as much as it should. It's your loss that you don't get the uh-maaaaaaazing image I planned for you. . . just kidding. I would rather have you find my box and sully it than not find it at all. It is there for you. A bit of spit and denim afterward would be appreciated like a post-romp cigarette, but not strictly necessary. As in both cases, I leave you to manage your own guilt and post-incident confession.

I was just reading the AQ statistics page and it seems Ma. has more boxes planted than Ct. 7437 to 7391. I'd think Ct. would have a higher count but not so. Close tho.
