cachers want US to look for caches in the area BEFORE we plant our boxes . . . when they go right ahead and plant their caches right on top of our boxes without a second thought.

Yeah, but that's for pragmatic reasons. It's really easy to make a quick check to see if there are any geocaches in the vicinity before planting a letterbox. It's not a simple matter to figure out if there are any letterboxes in an area before planting a geocache. You'd basically have to solve all the cyphers and track down all the clues for all the boxes in town as well as all the mysteries in the state and the country.

How many people here would buy a GPSr to get their box in this database?

Anyone who has a smartphone already has a GPSr. Considering friends and boxing buddies, most of us could come up with one without spending any $$$.

But I wouldn't be willing to post coords of my boxes. That'd allow finders to just hunt them down like geocaches rather than following the clues. What I would like to see is the "location" field in the box listing replaced with a set of coordinates which can either be picked off a map or marked using a GPSr while in the field -- but the coordinates to be provided are for the starting location for finding the box, usually the parking lot or trailhead or whatnot. Sometimes it'd just be a general vicinity indicator. It'd never be the precise location of the box itself. And, of course, this location would be of zero help in preventing geocache/letterbox conflicts.

The one thing it might accomplish is to get more geocachers interested in letterboxing. They could view each letterbox as an offset geocache: use the GPSr to get to the parking area and then follow the clues to find the box. That's right up their alley for some of them -- although admittedly most of them are just in it for the numbers; if the box isn't where the coords say it is, they get peeved.

Then surprise surprise when the box is the one that gets raped and pillaged while the cache continues to sit high and mighty over its fallen foe.

When a geocache and a letterbox conflict, the letterbox always loses. That's an inherent result of the difference in the games. You can't really hurt a geocache, and even if you could there's nothing a letterboxer would do to hurt one if he accidentally found it. But the swag-trading that is fundamental to geocaching spells disaster for any letterbox found by accident. Sooner or later somebody's gonna trade some useless garbage for your hand-carved stamp.

Yes they can. I've had many geocaches muggled, including ones that were very well hidden. I've had one practically buried that went missing. It was in a natural hole under a tree root. It was a large hole. I put a rock in front of it.

Muggles seem to find things. It's not always a geocacher, but sometimes it obviously is. If geocaches couldn't be damaged them there would be so many archived (retired).

So sad that a letterbox can.

So, so true. You need to do what you can to keep it from happening. "Do or do not. There is no rant." ;-)

I am headed to SOHT event in a couple weeks. When I print the check list - it lists those who are carrying personal travelers... but it also lists exchanges. I've tried to search around the website - I'm not sure what this is - or how to participate - or add an exchange, etc. Advice/tips appreciated!

When you mean other letterboxers at an event, you can exchange signature stamp images. You stamp your sig stamp in their logbook, they stamp in yours.

Just saying hi! Epicus and I have been away from the letterboxing world for a little while. We've been pleasantly busy with real life stuffs (new house, new puppy, sister's wedding, etc) so letterboxing has taken a bit of a hit. That said, we will be coming back to the wonderful world of rubber stamps and clues as soon as we can (though honestly who knows how life will run hehe).

Hope all is well in AQLand!

Of the new shows that premiered this season, I have watched four.

- Life in Pieces (Mondays on CBS) was boring. I don't think I laughed once during the first episode, so I didn't bother with the second.

- Blindspot (Mondays on NBC) is pretty interesting, although I'm not sure how long they will be able to keep that up. They have to keep revealing enough information about Jane and her tattoos to keep the audience interested, but not so much that they won't be able to sustain more than one season.

- The Muppets (Tuesdays on ABC) is no The Muppet Show, but I think it has potential. Instead of following the Muppets as they put on a weekly variety show, this one follows the Muppets as they put on Miss Piggy's late night talk show. As a consequence, I think Piggy is featured a little too prominently. But then again, she always has tried to steal the show.

- Code Black (Wednesdays on CBS) premiered last night, and so far it seems rather similar to ER in its concept. I'm not a huge fan of medical dramas (I prefer crime dramas), but I think I will continue to watch this.

I'd be interested to hear what others have to say about these shows, and to find out if I should be watching any of the other new shows that have aired.

Code Black at my hospital mean Bomb Threat. So I wonder why they call it that.

I haven't watched any of these, I just watched all the Netflix of Breaking Bad. Really liked it. I need a TV break now.

Code Black at my hospital mean Bomb Threat. So I wonder why they call it that.

In this case, Code Black means more patients than resources in the ER. The blurb at the beginning of the show said that most hospitals go into Code Black about 5 times a year. The hospital in the show, which is based off of an actual hospital in Los Angeles, goes into Code Black about 300 times a year.

Blindspot, I did think it was very good. But I am concerned that it will be a show I want to watch to see what happens. But will be looking for the end to come. I hope they can reveal some secrets than move on to other topics. The actors are awesome.

Muppets, I deleted it after watching the first one and half shows. It could not hold my attention.

Code Black, I did not program to watch it because I was afraid it would be like the other shows I am already hooked on. (Chicago Fire, Pd, and the third CHicago show that is also coming on this fall) BUt if reviews are high I might have to go back and watch. Nah how am I kidding. I watch too much now.

Now Castle, I can not get enough. I love that one!!!!!!

The names of all of the participants will still show up on future event checklists, but the ones that you haven't yet recorded an exchange with will be bold and have an asterisk next to them.
