Though, I suspect, that the planter of said boxes is actually more happy you came to visit than what day you logged!

I couldn't help but notice that dilton martian is at the end of the PCT. Just wanted to pass on my congratulations because I know it's been a long and hard trek. WTG!

Congratulations! That really is an accomplishment. I've also been "walking" that trail on and off forever. When I get tired of it, I switch to another trail for a few weeks. I notice that others do this too! -Rose

This year's event has now been listed. It will take place on Saturday, October 3, and this year we will be touring cemeteries at the eastern end of Niagara County, with the meetup portion taking place in Lockport.

http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?eventId=3537

If you are interested in carving a stamp or two for this year's event, please AQmail me. Our stamps are small and fairly simple, but you do need to be willing to carve lettering. (Negative is fine.)

Don't you wish you were me right now? I just found a binder FULL of old New England letterbox clues in my file cabinet! Question is, are these boxes still out there?

It will be interesting to find out!

OMG - I had all of the newengland ones printed from 2002 in a binder as well (we never actually looked for them).......we decided to start afresh, though, rather than try and go through to see what was active, retired, updated, etc.......

This makes me laugh so much. I’m glad to hear that everything is okay with the box. So sorry to hear about the death....they are wonderful people. I like having all the logbooks in the container...it is big enough, because I really like having the history there of people that have passed through. I appreciate anyone that has stopped there, gotten a coke or some memento of the area. Understand that Guntown Mountain has a new owner too.

Crosscresent...depending on where you parked, you could have been the first people out!

He might, I will get in touch with him. But I'm specifically thinking of a separate domain that is optimized for "scouts" and "letterboxing" so that it will come up at/near the top of search results. Then I'll link to whatever resources are on AQ and LBNA (like this board). I already secured the domain, letterboxingwithscouts.info, so I think I'll go ahead with it. I was just asked today to train GS leaders next March, but only some of them will be in my class, so this will be perfect to have information available for those who can't attend.

The Girl Scouts have once again asked if some letterboxers would like to have a "booth" at their Troop Roundup events. Oct 3 is in Troy (north of STL) and Oct 10 is in Pevely (south of STL). I can probably do October 3rd but could use a helper or two and I would love if someone would want to take on October 10.

The benefit to us is that this is an opportunity to train scouts and their leaders about how to letterbox in a RESPECTFUL and successful way. You know what I mean.

I have this down to a science and I can walk you through what to do.

Basically, groups of scouts come to your table in clumps and you have about 5 minutes to capture their attention and explain a simple activity to them. Sample logbooks laid out are enough to catch their eye. You tell them you're sending them on treasure hunt, briefly explain the logging in process, emphasize STEALTH and respect, show them that they have their very own personal signature stamp on the end of their finger, and send their group off with a Crayola marker, one page of clues and information for their leader to hopefully read later and hopefully get all the many details you left out. The kids LOVE it and it is very rewarding to see the smiles on their faces.

In Troy, I already have boxes hidden and clues written. If you come and help me, you can go find them.

In Pevely, someone would need to go out in advance and hide two boxes and write simple clues (I can even tell you where to go). I also have boxes you can use or you can make your own. The event organizers will make copies of clues/handouts and have them there for you.

So if anyone is willing to give back in this way, contact me and I'll get you more details. Thanks!

If anyone out there has the WOM clues to my letterbox series "His Places" in RI I would be grateful if you could send them to me. I lost the clues over the years and never actually pulled the boxes. I would like to hunt them down and properly retire them, or if they are in good shape, turn them into traditional finds.

Thank you!

For over a year now, my brother-in-law has really gotten into doing "escape rooms" and my wife and I have done a few with him and some friends. They are tons of fun. For those unfamiliar with the concept, you go to a place where they lock you in a room (or rooms) and give you an hour to figure out various puzzles and props in order to escape. The idea started in Japan, spread to Europe where it's huge, and is finally starting to really take off here in America.

Now, after months of planning and dealing with business and legal stuff, he has opened one of his own, and I just may have helped with some of the puzzles. I've already told a handful of boxers about it, but hesitated to make some big post on here. I didn't want to come off like I'm just soliciting business. But I think you all know I'm not like that, and I really think a lot of letterboxers would enjoy this stuff.

Check out the website and tell me what you think:
http://www.trappedescaperoom.com

If you are one of the locals who might wanna come check it out, I worked out a deal. He had a 15% grand opening discount for September, but I got him to make a 50% discount just for letterboxers: promo code BOX50

just make sure to get your fair share of the "pepperoni rolls" - a gas station delicacy found throughout the state...

when i used to work in Beckley/Bluefield, I'd get them to help sustain me on the drive from Ohio!

Good Luck

Very cool! Is he promoting his business to corporate America? A lot of places have team-building activities/events for their employees.

Will you be planting a Letterbox close by? (Hint, hint) Maybe a Special K discount code inside the box? <G>

This would be an interesting reality show.

Actually, it's a game show on the Science Channel called Race To Escape. Two teams compete in two identical rooms.

One was also featured on an episode of Big Bang Theory, the joke being that since they're geniuses, it only takes them like 10 minutes to get out.
