Greeting my fellow letterboxers!!

LAST Christmas my daughter and her friend (who lives in Germany) planted a letterbox for me. I was sooo excited greatly anticipating who would be the first finder, or any finder for that matter!! :~) Imagine my dismay when it is now coming upon a whole year and not even one clue hit has been made!! So I am sending this little nudge to all of you in hopes someone will seek her out!

I was wondering what was the best method of translating clues was. I am going to germany, denmark, and lux in september and would love to do some hiding and seeking. any suggestions?

Don't forget to look for my box while there if you are in the area!

Hi Sparky Butterfly - Just a word of caution regarding automated translators - they aren't necessarily the most accurate with the results that you will get. They are *ok*, but take it with a (large) grain of salt!

If you know anyone who speaks Danish or German, who is perhaps a fellow letterboxer, you could ask them to help you decipher the clues into English. It's been my experience that fellow LB'ers are most willing to help with just about anything!

Having said that, I will now reveal that I am fluent in German, and would love the opportunity to put to good use my German knowledge to help you with your LB quest while in Europe. :-) I wish I could fit in your suitcase and go with you! I haven't been back to Europe since 1999.

Unfortunately I don't speak Danish - so maybe if you post in the LB Denmark thread, you'll get a reply there.... :)

oy vey, I see the logic in not using online translations. Simply looking at ;english' and if it said look for the box in 'the boot'. hmm, you could end up in two very different places. One can only think of how
an online translation might lead you stray.
That is wonderful to have an offer for a translation through a fellow boxer.
Have fun on your trip! Hope you find some. Looks like many haven't been found in a while.

ow, that can be so disappointing. I have had boxes sit for nearly two years.
Their time will hopefully come. I am forwarding your page to a family that
visited us from Germany, we showed them our Purple Star box and they have heard of it. Seems tho
some there are in bottles. (sounds a bit like the original ones in England??)
They love the outdoors, so hopefully they will be able to find it when they return to Germany.

We are leaving next week to visit my Daughter in the Military stationed in Spangahlem. We will be in Trier a few days and down in the Black forest a couple of days too, and am hoping your box is close to one of these areas

I will be stationed in Germany for 5 months starting in January. I am willing to plant boxes as long as the weather permits...and would love to hunt for any that are already out. My only thing is I hardly speak any German and you can forget reading it. I'm trying to learn, but won't have it down fast enough for this project.

If you have clues in English, that'd be great. I can write clues in English whereever I plant a box, for translation.

I'm a civilian but I will be traveling to US bases in Germany. I'm sure there will be a lot of travel along the trail.

Want to be sure i understand...all the clues are photos, starting at this train station? Hum...I'll have to give that a try when I'm in Germany if I get close enough to the start location.

It has never been found that I know of. Or attempted either. If you get to the train station an old couple live above it. Their grandson is married to "Carmin" who is best friends with my daughter. They planted it while my daughter was visiting. Carmin is American and speaks fluent English & German. Im posting this in English now as i guess if you are a german and on AQ ur english cant be too bad right?! ;)
So, im doing a ring thats combined of postal letterboxing and LTCs (letterbox trading cards). Its done for my little baby boy who is due in july. If you have any questions or even better if u are sure ud like to join in please AQ me! :)

This sounds like a wonderful ( I have been talking to Tonkks ) idea. I really encourage everyone to AQ her and join the ring. She has an exciting idea for this ring.

Does anyone know where to go to find clues for any "short" letterboxes around the Mannheim area of Germany? I will be there for a short week and without a car. Any letterboxes I have found are a minimum of a 2hour duration, not only that, I"m cluesless as to where they were. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did see that link on a Geman letterboxing website. It looks likeit would be a fun letterbox, but looking at a map, it seems that we are staying a few hours away on the other side of Frankfurt...bummer :(

My DH and I have a 6 hour layover in Frankfurt enroute to Toulouse, France.

I found the walking tours but they recommend a minimum of 7 hour layover. Has anyone ever done the walking tours? Or had a layover?

Sadly, there are no boxes in Frankfurt, but if someone can point us in the right direction, we'd be happy to plant... ;)

sorry to say, but I think that by the time you would exit customs, take the train to the city center (it's a fairly long ride from the airport to main train station) and do this in return, it wouldn't leave you much time to explore.

Amy-you could always plant a box outside the airport somewhere, that way there would be a Frankfurt box and others with short layovers would have a box to find :o)

Is anyone here familiar with the area? I would hate to go through the hassle of customs twice and not find a suitable plant spot!!

Hello! I am planning a trip to Germany in April for a family reunion. However, the reunion is only for one day, so I will have some time for exploring! I am very excited to find boxes in Germany. It looks like I will be staying in the northeast quadrant of the country. :)
