Well, we (me and The Fish Master) completed all of the goals we (meaning me) set for 2012. It was a pretty tough year (health wise) for the Fish Master but he really enjoyed our letterboxing adventures. We did have a stretch goal of finding one more box than we did in 2011 and we ended up finding 29 more!

Have not set letterboxing goals for 2013. The Fish Master retired on 7/6/12 and my retirement will occur shortly. We just moved into our cabin in the Poconos and are very busy setting that up. We have chemo every other week so we schedule activities on a 2 week month. We are very excited about letterboxing in PA when we are at the cabin, clues have already been printed.

Wishing everyone in AQ land a very happy, healthly and prosperous New Year. Hug someone you love, and even someone you don't! They could probably use one.

Goals for 2012:
1. Finds: F400-500 Done -- actually reached 633!
2. Plants: P50 (that would be 36 more) Done! Actually reached 52, with seven old postals ready to plant.
3. LTCs: Too chicken to start, so no goal, though I have one small idea . . . Took part in 12 swaps and am signed up for a few more. This is probably not going to be a huge thing for me--I'm not creative enough--but will certainly participate in the occasional swap in the future.
4. Events: attend at least 3 Done!
5. Treasure Hikers: ??? Don't know anything about this yet. Added up my miles--68.45 in Georgia! Time for a pathtag!
6. Postals: F100 Done. I actually have 291 postal finds. I have to scale back next year because of costs, though. :(
7. Miscellaneous: Launch BUNCHES more cooties at LBSE and send out 1 HH per season. LBSE was NOT a cootie friendly place. I did launch more cooties at ELF: Knoxville, but may not do any more--I found out some people just throw them in the trash. As far as HH, I only sent out 2--many people in my area don't like them & don't take them, so I probably won't do any more of those, either.

All in all, it's been a great letterboxing year! Here's to the next one!

2012-- What a year! When we first signed up for this 'event,' our goals were pretty modest: 758 finds (to reach 2500 total) and 60 plants (to reach 150 total). Since we travel most of the time, we had decided by March that we wanted to try to:

1) re-visit each of the 48 contiguous states this year
2) find at least one letterbox in each of the 'Great 48'
3) plant at least one letterbox in each of the 48

It took us until yesterday, but we finally accomplished all our goals. Found and planted at least one box in each of the 48, plus we achieved our original goals, finding 903 during 2012 to give us a total F count of 2,645, and planting 71 this past year to pull our P count to 161.

Now, time for some rest- and a trip to Alaska and Hawaii, eh?

Happy New Year to all. We've enjoyed following everyone's journey on their way to their individual goals.

Happy Trails,
Road Junkies

Well. The little man was a MAN when he got here. 10# 2oz. 21 inches long. My step daughter delivered him without a csection because she had the most amazing doctor! Others would have not tried to turn him -- he was sunny side up! But both are doing great. I will post pictures when I am back at my computer. Thanks for asking about him.

Ok, so last year I didn't really have any goals so I accomplished them all!! ;) Seriously though, I felt better about things the year before when I did have goals and something to strive for.

Here's what I'm thinking for this year:

Plants ~ replant the series of 9 that I had to pull and plant the series of 14 I've been hoarding, I mean...I need a trail for ;)
Finds ~ Reach 950 (and not just go to events to achieve this--this was how I got most of my finds last year)
LTCs ~ Try 2 new techniques for LTCs this year to expand my artsy abilities

That is all for now.

It's been so quiet here lately! :)

My personal hiking goal for before it snows is to finish the Mattabessett Trail here in Connecticut. I'd realized that for years I'd been hiking parts of it in search of boxes, and if you do the whole thing you can get a patch from our Forest and Park Association. Finally last year I sat down and looked through my logbook and figured out which sections I'd already finished. Last weekend (since it was a three-day one) I logged LOTS of miles on it. I'm hoping to complete it this coming weekend so I can get it accomplished before the snow sets in. ;) Of course when I hike alone, it makes it harder because then I have to turn around and go back to the car... but it is what it is. ;) Wish me luck!

I also finished the Lone Pine Trail in Madison/Guilford this past weekend. I didn't set out to do that, but it was kind of an accidental accomplishment since it helps to make sections of the Mattabesett into a loop, much more fun than out and back. :) No patch for that, though. ;)

It's that time to reflect on the year. And it was a good one:

Accomplishments in 2013:

Create and do longer hikes:
Learn and do more mysteries
  • Mystery collaboration with Dingus Dufus
  • Mystery collaboration with Magical Music Man
  • FOUND Dingus Dufus, Aiphid, Lightninbug (eeviled Woodland Folks), Lovebirds_NC, and Legerdemaine mystery boxes!
  • Wrote up my own mystery clues: here and here

Expand ideas on box construction
ALL of these boxes are very unique (exterior constructions)! I highly recommend checking them out!
And I look forward to new adventures of the same kind in 2014!!

One of my main goals was to plant an extreme box, and NotMyCircus and I planted a kayak/canoe accessible only series, on an alligator-filled river.... I am pretty sure that meets some people's expectations of extreme.

My other goals were to plant boxes that began with letter X, V and K. X is done, V and K will be in February.

I sent several boxes to different states and planted my first Blue Diamond rated box in another state.

I planted boxes by other carvers, in Florida, as well as some of my own.

Letterboxed in Washington DC, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida this year!

Attended events small and large.

One accomplishment that just happened sort of by accident, was I carved an original stamp, made it into a waterpainting, and it was accepted into the Miniature Art Society of Florida international exhibit. It will be on exhibit Jan 19 to Feb 9 at Dunedin Fine Arts Center in Dunedin Florida. The title of the painting is Chesnut Park Deer. After the show, I will decide where I will plant this stamp, possibly at the Fine Arts Center, or at the park where I saw the deer.

I've been doing this since 2007 and somebody always beats me to the box first. Imagine my surprise at finding a new series in Akron,OH. I ran off the clue on Sat. and planned to do the series on my way to teach a rubber stamp class on Mon. And I was the first one still! SunnySmile

Congratulations! Being a first finder is exciting!

My first "first finder" find happened with a box that had been planted for more than a year. But that was in an area where there are very few letterboxes and even fewer active letterboxers. In fact, all the boxes there have been planted by visitors on vacation (including my own).
