I thought i would post a message here, seeing that there aren't any posted yet.

I am fascinated with Finland, mostly because it is my heritage, but have not yet been there. If I were to go to Finland, though, I would definitely plant many letterboxes!

Finland is awsome!
Hopefully new letterboxes coming...

Hello--recently I've received a few postcrosses (AQ has a PostCrossing board, too) from folks in Finland who are intrigued by letterboxing. They read about it in my profile. One has even promised to plant one!

Anyway, I'm just crossing my fingers that one of these fine folks will get the ball rolling there.

Thanks,
FamilyMan

*waves hello*
I'm new to letterboxing - so new in fact I haven't yet found my first letterbox. I've been searching for pages about it, local terminology for it, and have come across quite some clues all on different pages. Decided to register here however, as this seems quite active community, and having a lot of info on this and that in case I want to ask something :)

Wow. Welcome!!

congratulations on entering our community! While i am glad you have joined and posted on your country's board, i don't know a lot of boxers in Finland. i was in Sweden this summer, with my sister (which is a long way from you!) but nowhere near the other Scandanavian countries.

You will find a very welcoming place here, with lots of information and fun. i suggest posting and reading on the Newcomers' board, which is where people can get to know you (wait, that's not what it's called. . . what is it called?? i wish the coffee would kick in. . .) Also, Letterbox Chatter and Traditional Letterboxes are boards with lots of information. Then, there's the North Carolina board, where we just get silly a lot.

Anyway, welcome and enjoy!

Thank you for the warm welcome :)

I got intrigued of letterboxing when a friend of mine showed pictures of her findings - that turned out to be boxes planted by a tourist. I thought at first that those might be the only boxes around, but it turned out there actually is more - just that clues are scattered all to different sites, and terms used might be bit different depending on who has planted the box. At least scouts and geocachers seem to be active in planting - most clues I've found from their sites.

Seems though in Sweden there's even more letterboxes, even on Stockholm-area only, when searched from different websites! I'll keep that in mind next time I'm going there ;)

So that's how the North Carolina gets so many posts.... you enlist help from all over the world!!!

Well, that... and Mama Wolf. =)

Funny you mention North Carolina.... that is where I'm from and where I started in this hobby. I currently live in Denmark and send you a warm welcome!! If you ever travel to Rovaniemi Finland, I planted a couple of letterboxes there, as well as in Sweden if you visit there.

I have recruited a few new people to the hobby and will be teaching classes at the school my teens attend. In the spring, we are going to have a Letterboxing event here in Denmark, so you will see the number of letterboxes increase for this country.

I have been planting boxes in each of the European countries I have visited...hope you get to find some!

Again, Welcome and enjoy!

I think I came across your blog when I first started googling info on letterboxing! How nice! I hope I get to find some of boxes you've planted.

I think the letterbox you planted in Mariehamn would be closest to me, so I have already added looking for that on my list of "things to do if I some day visit Åland properly" :) (Few years ago I did some work trips that required changing ships in Mariehamn, but there was enough time to only run from one ship to another, so I can't really say I had visited there.)

By far I've been finding some letterboxes planted by local geocachers to my hometown and neighboring towns. I've had little adventure looking for them almost every weekend now, and have planned yet another letterbox-adventure for tomorrow evening :)
