Craigslist, or ebay or around here (down South) i've seen a number of them at "antique" stores (which seems to be a euphemism for "where we put our junk for the tourists looking for a bargain in old furniture"). Some of the antiques are truly antiques, and a lot of it is junk. Depends on the store. One of our fellow boxers runs a really classy one, which is not a junk store. Then again, there are a few here in my town that really are, despite the sign.

And even if you get one already made, you can still paint and paper and redo the roof with different shingles, change the shutters and all sorts of things to it yourself

Anywho, I came up with the idea to create a Haunted Dollhouse from The Bloggess. (If you read her stuff. I don't agree with her PERSONALLY..but she is great fun and entertainment..so I love her.)

Does that mean your haunted house will not involve unusual taxidermy?

Some 25-ish years ago, I saw some stuff that came in a bottle about the size of mod-podge. You painted it on, for example, a silk flower, and it coated the flower with an air-dry ceramic, which could then be painted, attached to a bowl, or whatever. Anyone know what it was called or where I could get some? It comes to mind that I could paint this stuff on "barbies" from the dollar store, then paint my "ceramic dolls" and make them dresses, and sell them at a profit on etsy. I'm good with cloth. A sculptor I'm not.

Yes, that's what reminded me of the other stuff. I'd like to make them into collectible "porcelain" dolls...

There was some stuff called Dip and Drape. It was sold in folded sheets and sort of like plaster cast. You got it wet and shaped it over a form. It was very shapeable and easy to work with. You then painted it after it dried well. Not sure if this helps. Good luck!

Where's the "AHHHHHHH!" button? Who would want those terrifying things in their house? The first time I saw an episode with them in it, it gave me the heebie-jeebies!

Yes! It's the petal porcelain!

Thanks. See, my google skills are getting better, but whenever I just can't find or remember something, I know someone at AQ can fill in the blanks for me.

Aaaaannnd, now that I know what it's called, and have discovered that it should be about $5/bottle, but is being sold for $25/bottle because it's discontinued, I have also discovered that it doesn't really do what I thought it did.

I thought it was a think paint that gave the texture and color of porcelain. What it actually is, is a stiffener, to be used on silk flowers, etc, which doesn't change the color of the fabric, so must then be painted white to make it look like porcelain. Hmmmph. Won't do for my project after all, so glad that I researched before purchasing it.

That said, anyone know of something I can spray or paint onto plastic that will give me the texture of porcelain?

true, but then I'd have to fire it, and the plastic doll underneath it will melt.

and I don't have a kiln.

I just realized this thread is a year old, but I stumbled on it while looking for destressing type boards (Hobbies are destressing...right?)
Anyways...for future reference, we have found cardboard to be the perfect solution to maybe and temporary and experimental projects. We have made cardboard dollhouses. They came out awesome. Cardboard, cardstock and recycled dollhouse 'stuff' too. And if you get tired of it, or the cats destroy it, or the kids trip on it and flatten it, it can just be recycled and you'll still cherish that whole creativity process.
I've seen people wallpaper bookcases and old DVD/Cd carousels to look like dollhouses, too. But I still vote for cardboard since it's free and plentiful...old shipping boxes work well.

My husband used cardboard to build shelving for all of my cloth and yarn. Amazing, gets it off the ground and visible...and it's free. :-) The shelves have been up for almost 2 years, by the way, so it isn't as temporary a fix as it sounds.

ETA: And with cardboard, you can experiment with all sorts of hidden entries and secret passages; it's all free. And cardboard is a little more flexible than wood. Good luck!!! Now I want to build a haunted dollhouse for my vampire obsessed nieces...

I only discovered them when I was at Shenandoah NP. So I've only been hunting them for a month now and I never see any in my change from shopping. I think I will have to break down and order them online too. That being said, while shopping at Shenandoah NP I got Their National park quarter in my change!

I am NOT collecting the national park quarters, but I do get them a lot in change, and I could look and see what I've got. What are you looking for?

I'm still looking for a few of the territory "state quarters" though...I need

P - District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and Northern Mariana Islands
D - US Virgin Islands and Northern Mariana Islands

Cool Coyote, which state quarters are you still looking for? I get them all the time, and in Arizona, they're mostly D's.

I need almost every park in D but just a few P's. Specifically:

2010 D: Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Mount Hood
2011 D: Gettysburg, Glacier, Olympic, Vicksburg, Chickasaw
2011 P: Chickasaw
2012 D: El Yunque, Chaco, Acadia, Hawaii Volcanoes, Denali
2012 P: El Yunque
2013 D: White Mountain, Perry's Victory, Great Basin, Fort McHenry
2013 P: Great Basin
2014 D: Smoky Mountains, Arches, Great Sand Dunes, Everglades
2015 D: Homestead, Kisatchie, Blue Ridge *plus others not yet released
2015 P: Kisatchie, Blue Ridge *plus others not yet released

Thank you! :)
