We're heading to the Galapagos in a couple of weeks, and I'm wondering about letterboxing there. It seems to be a very protected place, and I'm doubtful about our ability to successfully (and stealthily) plant something--not to mention the fact that we want to be careful not to impact the environment there. Anyone tried, or have an informed opinion?

My friends just got back from there. i WOULD NOT plant there. The inhabitants are not very smart about what they put in their mouths. i can just imagine a bluefooted boobie eating a piece of white pzcut because he thought it was a piece of fish. And i hear the price to get to the island is going to go way up. So you have to think...how many people are really going to find your box. i have a box that is right on the ALCAN Highway that is very heavily traveled in the summer months. To date no one has found it. I am sure someone will at some time but for now it just sits. i can't imagine how many years you would have to wait for someone to find a box on the Galapagos. Not to mention the angst i would have about some iguana clawing open the box.

You should not even attempt to plant a box there if you have an opportunity.
I say "if you have an opportunity" as you will be with a guide anytime you step foot on an island. They are extremely protective there. You can not bring little snacks with you to munch on when you hike and if you need to use the facilities then you will be taken back to your ship or boat.

What you will experience far out weighs any letterboxing you might do anyway.

Hopefully you have signed up for the 8 day tour rather than the 4 day tour.

We hid a letterbox "La Mitad del Mundo" just outside of Quito, but it went missing about one month later. There are some others in Ecudor, but I'm not sure how close they are to the Quito area?
