guardrails with a magnetic hide a-key

are they waterproof?

Pretty much, I would think… probably wouldn’t stand up to being submerged, but they should be okay in the rain

Yep. There’s a nearby geocache planted in one that’s been out there for 5 years, no damage

I have.

Glued stamp to 'rock'. No log book
Glued stamp to Magnet. No log book.
Glued Velcro to stamp. No log book.

I did buy these plastic key thingys at harbor freight.
https://www.harborfreight.com/waterproof-cash-and-key-sprinkler-hider-58831.html

Havn't used them yet, but they are a buck a piece. I am hoping they will work.

I have also used urine cups from Amazon and they seem to be holding up pretty good. I paint them though.

Those key things at Harbor Freight look cool. I’ll have to see if my local store has any. (I know I promised myself not to buy any new containers until I used the ones I have. They look so cool though!)

I would put in a small logbook, in plastic if I had a small enough baggie

I think I picked up a couple of those sprinkler ones at Harbor Freight for this purpose. Haven't used them yet.

Hide a key I only put stamp, no logbook. But even then inside the guardrail they do not seem to get wet.

There's a series at the Mystery at the Museum event with nothing but naked* magnetic stamps. Just need steel that has an out-of-sight spot.

Just to clarify, they’re brand-new!! 😜 A bunch of us MA planters are using them for stamps in a series. I do use a LnL for the logbook box, though.

I think Arf was the first person around here to use stamps superglued to a rare-earth magnet. They’re great for urban hides! I’ve planted a few around the country, including one on the side of the spy museum in D.C. They seem to be holding up okay.

I'm sure this has been discussed before and I missed it, but is there a way to list a box but not have it activate until a specific date in the future? Also, how about a yet-to-be-determined date based on when one's account becomes inactive due to death (or abduction by aliens, etc)?

I am not sure if these two things are related or not. If they are not, then there is an easy answer to the first question.

When you add a new box listing, instead of publishing it, click to save it. Then the listing will be in your logbook under unpublished finds.

I do not know about the second part of your post.

I think the OP was wondering if you could list an unpublished box and give it a date on which it would automatically be published without you having to do anything. And I believe the answer to that is no.

You could add that information to your Last Will & Testament section of your Account Info.

That's correct. There are way too many people who "list" boxes that they plan to plant, but somehow never get around to it. If that option was available, there would be all sorts of unplanted boxes showing up in the new boxes list.

You could add that information to your Last Will & Testament section of your Account Info.

That's a good idea, but the weakness is that we have to know that the person has joined the dearly departed. If you simply become inactive and nobody knows of your passing, we won't think to look at the last will.

It would probably be a good idea to check up on any box that should released after one's passing every year or two to make sure it's still alive and kicking even when you aren't. I wouldn't necessarily expect a box I planted today to still be viable by the time I pass away! (I hope that's true, at least--or my life span will be much shorter than I would have hoped.)

Kind of a mean joke to play upon your death promising a box that might have already gone missing!

I was in Eureka CA for work. That evening I saw a newly posted box only a mile from my motel, so I go looking for it. It's not a very good hiding place and I can't find it. There's an ambiguity in the clue, so I rethink the location and there's another place nearby that seems to work... after an hour of searching, I give up & send the planter an AQmail to tell him I couldn't find it and ask if he could clarify the clue.

"Oh sorry, I haven't planted it yet, it should be out there this weekend." But I won't be back for a long time. I already knew that the guy was an idiot, I never looked for one of his boxes again.
