I find the idea of using logbooks to try to locate mystery boxes to be clever, although somewhat devious.

Then you may enjoy solving this box - AQ Logbook Stalker

It is unnerving to think that someone would actually try to stalk a boxer.

I have been hiking alone for about 20 years and my incident last month was the first time I was extremely uncomfortable with the person following me around. Needless to say, I didn't stay in that park very long.

Yes, the worst incident was in Western PA. Much more 'deliverance' types than dutch or amish types.

They belong in a museum?

Very brief.

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

There isn't really much in the article about geocaching itself, but there is even less about letterboxing. Its conclusion is that either is motivation to get outside and connect with people.

Agree that it’s a pretty skimpy article. Still, anything that breathes life into new potential letterboxers should be welcome. This reminds me that ECP and I were contacted by the Santa Cruz paper ‘Good Times’ for an article on geocaching (over 8 years ago already! [link below]). Too bad this reporter wasn’t as equally motivated and resourceful.

In the picture for letterboxing the children are reaching for a rock in the stream. Why?

Because most of the people who do these article have very little or no idea what they are writing about and someone just threw a cute photo up there.

But I suppose it's better than showing where box is, which is what they usually do.

not the same photo as the paper edition where they're doing something else, but doesn't look like boxing.
both seem staged.

Because the kids are both about to fall in... How do I know? From experience... lots and lots of experience...

Which is why I pack extra dry clothes for both kids in the car...
Time magazine article?

I'm not having any luck searching the boards for this, but I seem to remember mention of a Time magazine article about letterboxing, maybe in 2004. Does this ring a bell with anyone? My collection of older magazines at school is going to be thrown out within the next few days, and if there's an issue that mentions letterboxing, I want to save it. Thanks!

--Got it from the AQ Facebook page. The article is dated July 18, 2004. It's in the July 26, 2004 print issue. I'll be rescuing it from school tomorrow.

Don't forget to rescue the April 1998 Smithsonian Magazine too.

There is also a "questing" article in the September 2003 Family Fun magazine. Finally came across that back issue while digging through stacks in my home office.

I wish I'd had Smithsonian! My selection of magazine titles was limited, but the span of dates was very intriguing. Like Seventeen Magazine from the 1990s. And National Geographic from the 1920s and 30s (fortunately someone wanted them).

I'm sure the first thing on everyone's minds when seeing national news coverage of the shooting and disturbance at the Oñate statue in Albuquerque was the status of my letterbox. Fear not; I Knew I Shoulda Taken a Left in Albuquerque has miraculously survived the rift in domestic tranquility. The people with pick-axes, pistols, chains, pepper-spray, and assault rifles were oblivious.

See the letterbox hidey-hole?

NBC had this story about reliance on gps being bad for the brain. The story is about orienteering but I was thinking letterboxing could have been just as effective:
