Dbare and I are headed to Wyoming at the end of June...

We have to stick around for a family wedding June 30, but we're leaving asap after. Still planning the details, obviously. Mostly hoping to have the boys not kill each other with so much time in the car --and hoping for enough diversions to keep everyone entertained while keeping us moving toward our destination and and back in time for Obi-Mon to get back to work by mid-July! Fun fun!

I just did the trip planner with 5 miles off- so many to choose from! I think I'll need to visit the Utah board for suggestions as well.

Sweep and I will also be in Wyoming the end of June. We have to be in Casper June 30 but haven't decided the other days where we will be. Cheyenne is high on out list as we used to live there and so it is always fun to go back. We will also be in Gillette as that is where Sweep's parents live. It would be fun to meet up if it works out.

After talking with the family our plans are starting to shape up a bit. Looks like we'll get to Rock Springs the 3rd or 4th, be there for the 4th of July and stay for a couple days. Then we'll head to Cheyenne on the 6th and spend a few days there. From there we're putting ourselves in the hands of much more experienced wilderness folks who know the area like the backs of their hands. We'll be taking our van/their truck and camping and exploring Lake Louis, Glendo, Shoshoni, Hoback, Jackson, etc...and eventually we'll part ways and start heading back to CA around the 15th. Now that they know we're up for the challenge (meaning the adults are- the kids think we're nuts and they're just going to have to deal with it! :-) the Wyomingans (is that right?) are going to plan out the camping side of things and we'll talk more in a few weeks.

Hi WY boxers,

The hubs and I are planning a camping trip this summer and it looks like we are going to camp at the willow campground in Medicine Bow NFP. We would appreciate any recommendations as to local attractions, cools stuff, good hikes, restaurants, etc. I would also like boxing recommendations...I'm sure I can sneak some letterboxing into the trip. Thank you!

Im off the I 80.... But in the San Francisco Bay Area.... Guess I will pass since my teleporter is in for repairs at NASA. If you get to the CA Bay Area, give a shout and we will try for a meet and greet.

Safe travels while in Wyoming!

Hi there!
We are in the beginning stages of planning a trip to western Wyoming, and would love some suggestions! Our hope is Yellowstone and Tetons, but we have done the major tourist route before, and would like to add some off beat, different, and interesting places to our itinerary this time around.

If anyone has suggestions on places to go/see, hikes not to miss, etc... We'd love to hear them!

Thank you! :)

Email SNBone to see if she has some recommendations. I can tell you where a lot of my genealogical bodies are buried but that doesn't help you with your trip

Greetings friends....My husband and I are flying to Salt Lake City and then driving to Jackson Hole Wyoming to see the solar eclipse for our anniversary. I would love to fit in a couple of letterboxes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

There should be at least one. After all, this eclipse goes from Oregon to South Carolina.

Others in Utah will give you ideas of boxes to find. I haven't found nearly as many as others. It would probably be better to post to the Utah, Idaho and Wyoming state boards. Perhaps you could even attend some events in those states.

The event in MO is the only one I've seen. Shocking! Such a big event, lol! And no event in Oregon, where they estimate the influx of 1 million visitors (myself included)!

Everybody in the Lower 48 will see at least a partial eclipse. Enjoy!

For SLC, search on keyword "SLConfoot" to return boxes w/in 2 miles of downtown. Also anything carved by GreenJello will be a treat of a stamp. There a lots of boxes in SLC. To cut down the list, look at the blue diamonds.

On U.S. Hwy 89 on your way to Jackson, for a box not found in a l-o-n-g time, try #125684. The stamp is nothing, but the location is truly special. You may see river rafters, up close, on the Snake River. I'm curious to know if the box is still there. Even if it is not, you will still enjoy this place and it's unique "lunch counter" formations.

Just the drive from SLC to Jackson will be worth the trip; it's beautiful!

How WONDERFUL that you mentioned the SLConfoot. A couple of us are coming in September and after visiting the northern National Parks on a tour and will end up in SLC the late afternoon before we fly out.

I tried checking many of the boxes and didn't seem to find many near the Radisson that we would stroll to.... ta da.... thanks to you I did find some!

Thanks bunches,
Wendy

You're welcome, Wendy! We get a lot of letterboxing visitors to SLC for other reasons who want to 'box on the side. Often they are at conventions downtown with no transportation but their feet. Hence, SLConfoot was born in 2012 in response to the many inquiries we get. It was a (mostly) local group effort with some providing letterboxes and some planting. Several 'boxes have gone missing since then, but others have appeared to take their places.

PS - Several square blocks of downtown's TRAX system are in the "free zone." Get a transit map and give your feet a little rest for free between areas.

I found Dread Peach 4 x 4 Adventures, No. 2, at the end of May in Jackson. Excellent carve and an easy find. Some I enjoyed finding were at the Gros Ventre Slide (Kelly, WY), the cemetery in Jackson, and the one near Moose Junction (Dornan's).

We just went the other way. There's one North of Teton, before Yellowstone that has been there a long time and is a great carve.
If you have time in SLC, go to the Golden Spike NHS. There are a couple there we didn't have time to get, but it's an interesting bit of history.

The areas around the totality are really trying to bank on it. We could have bought 5 t-shirts for each area we've been in. ;)

Enjoy your trip! And happy anniversary.

LeBug mostly hangs around Pennsylvania, so you should be ok. However, the most effective repellent for him is a drive-by clue to a Walmart parking lot with a store bought stamp.

I agree drive by's are my repellent. Store bought stamps are OK, but stamps carved by kids are the best. You'll be safe from my ilk, no worries. :-)
