I drove out there in the dark some *cough*fifteen*cough* years ago to go skiing on spring break. Saw Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse the next morning, but never saw the badlands, as we came back via North Dakota. Wall Drug is definitely on the list. We the parents are just as excited about this trip as the kids! panning for gold, horseback riding, Jewel Cave—what's not to love?

I'm so jealous! Sounds like a great trip. I remember my Dad in the freezing streams panning for gold. Such good memories. That's what it's all about.

I grew up in ND and learned how to ski at Terry Peak. Good times, and lots of getting stuck in bad lands! Don't know how many times we had to be wenched out of the mud....

Hey there, outdoor girls!

I still remember meeting you when you were here in Portland. Remember that humongous cake at Bannings?!

Just want to say to South Dakota (my home state, I was born in Sioux Falls) that you should take any opportunity to meet and greet and/or box with the outdoor girls.

They are just wonderful people!!

Anyone in South Dakota interested in a postal?
Board: State: South Dakota

UPDATE: AS OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2008 I'M STILL LOOKING FOR PEOPLE FROM THE FOLLOWING STATES TO PARTICIPATE: IOWA, NEBRASKA, S. DAKOTA, and N. DAKOTA!

The goal of this postal is to have it follow the Lewis and Clark trail by visiting in proper order the states that the trail originally covered. It does not need to follow the precise trail locations, but will proceed from east to west.

Please contact me via my inbox here and you are located in one of the following at altasquest if you are interested in participating.

I will send out the postal when I have received at least one participant from each of the above listed states.

Ideally, I would like to gather postcards from each of the states along the trail, as well.

You can find my postal on the postal list under the name Lewis and Clark.

Best,
disheveledanimequeen

If you're talking general SD dos and don'ts, we were just out there last year with our kids (8 and 5 then) and have tons of suggestions — AQ mail me and I'll fill you in. For letterboxing, pickins are slim. I think I found five? There's so much else to see and do that making side trips to box is hard, even short ones. But then again I'm the lone LB wolf of the four of us, so I was clearly in the minority.

It's a GREAT vacation place. You all will have the best time!

Stamp Carver Needed

I am in need of a carver from South Dakota. I know, I know... I'm asking a lot. :) But I'm willing to be patient until one pops up! I am doing a series here in Utah this spring during Rocky Mountain Plant-A-Box month. It will be named, "Hello From the United States!", and I am getting carvers from all over the US to participate. The theme for the stamp would be, "Hello From South Dakota!", and would be of your own design of what you'd like Utah to know of your state.

In exchange, I will carve you a stamp of your choosing, any theme. :)

I've got a date of April 1, 2010 set, so it's not an immediate need. I just wanted to give people a heads up so they have time to prepare.

Tracker is at: http://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.html?gTrackerId=3809

Thanks,

My boys and I started Letterboxing in VT last summer and of all things ran into two nice ladies in the cemetery looking for a box we never were able to find. Thought they were from South Dakota....so HI!

The boys remember your very full logbook :)

I was so happy to see the Warren boxes are still alive and well after all the horrible flooding that area received later that fall.

Anyway, thought I would post a hello from the 3 Beasts and their Mama....

Happy Letterboxing!

Thanks!

I've pretty much stopped taking photos and mine flickr and other sites for better shots than I could have taken anyway.

Mount Rushmore photos on flickr

Badlands South Dakota on flickr

Now I just have to practice Photoshopping the family into them.

Yeah, but I'd rather use local boxer's photos when I can. Makes it a little more personal! =)

Hello any SD boxers out there!

My soon to be husband and I are heading your way for our honeymoon. Unfortunately, our plan to drive from Pierre, SD to Jackson, WY has become overly complicated. Is there anyone in Pierre that would be willing to drive us to Rapid City either the evening of Sunday July 13th or the morning of Monday July 14th? We would pay entirely for gas!

Thank you for even considering it! I can try to come up with boxing related perks to add to the gas money offer!

I've just posted this stamp on the stamp exchange:

If anyone lives near Mt Rushmore or is planning to visit, I'd love to have this planted nearby. It's a national park, so you can plant IN the park, but I'd like to have it close to the monument it depicts if possible.

Just got back from a vacation through Colorado. Have been inspired to carve a series of college mascots and would like volunteers to plant them. I can provide financial help if needed to offset costs. If you are willing to plant any of the following you can respond on this board or reply in AQmail.

I also have an interest in D2 schools having graduated from Fairmont State in WV and have followed Shepherd from the eastern panhandle who have made the NCAA final four three years in the last 12 years including last year. Both Shepherd and Colorado Mines (Golden, CO) lost in the semi-finals last season. So I propose to carve the football mascots of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

There are two in South Dakota:
Black Hills in Spearfish
SD Mines in Rapid City
