We are from IL, but you might AQ mail TeachJR and ask her about info get-togethers. She has done several here trying to build up the hobby. I'm sure she'd be happy to give you tips. Welcome to the hobby.

I've been to Lawrence many times. My auntie, one of them, lives there. Maybe someday I will visit again... If I visit again soon, I will send out a message.

Hello Kansan Letterboxers! I am currently working a contract job in Emporia, and staying in Lyndon thru May. Are there any events or meetups or anything going on while I'm here? It seems that you do not have a ton of boxes in the area.....I'm planning on carving and planting some while I'm here. Any help would be appreciated! :-)

I will be coming through southeast KS like Johnny Appleseed of letterboxing in early June. I've been planning every minute detail of this trip for a couple of months now, so I am really excited to finally get these boxes in place. Let's just hope nothing unforeseen happens to prevent it. My husband has already had one work trip come up between now and then, and another is in the works for the week before I leave. He is trying his best to be here so I can leave as planned. No matter what, though, I'll get up there this summer.... or cry. ;-)

For PAL day we'll be in SW Kansas so my PAL plant won't count for my own state.

Can't you plant before you leave (or have you left already?) and list them on the 24th?

We're in Lyndon until June 16, possibly later. How far south are you talking? I'd drive down for a meet-up if I'm not working!

The farthest north we'll be is Parsons on Friday night (June 2nd), and then Pittsburg early the next morning. That first day we will be driving 360+ miles and planting 15 letterboxes, so even though my itinerary has me getting to Parsons at 7:30, I can't be sure of the actual time. Google streetview really helps with planning where to plant, but we all know things don't always go as planned. (Do they *ever* go as planned?)

If there are any letterboxers in the area of (or able to drive to) Parsons Friday night, message me and we'll see if we can get together.

Hello Kansas!

I am in Kansas City, Kansas for almost 2 weeks. If anyone has any suggestions of what to see and what boxes to hunt - I would be most grateful.

And, if anyone has time to meet up - please let me know. I have evenings free and all weekend.

My hotel is in Lenexa.
The office is in Overland Park.

But I don't mind driving - I intend to explore as much as I can.

Thanks in advance!

Cross over the line a few times to Missouri...there is a great zoo there, jazz hall of fame, and the war memorial. The Truman Presidential library in Independence was the first one I visited. If you go west, the university of Kansas in Lawrence has some nice museums, and out in Topeka is the Kansas history museum and the Brown vs Board of Education national historic site.

Unfortunately we can't meet up because we are in NJ.

I visited there recently and I really enjoyed walking around Union Station and the Power and Light District.

Grab some BBQ at https://www.joeskc.com/ - there will probably be a line, but it's worth the wait!

I'm only 2 years late, but...if you find yourself on I-70 again. Topeka has a nice dog park in Gage Park. I don't have a doggie, only grand puppies. I've been a couple of times. There was even a letterbox there once! Sorry so late!

I wish I had seen this earlier. I'm in Topeka, not KC but I second all the ideas mentioned before. I also loved the Steamship Arabia Museum, a recovered and restored 1800's steamship that sunk fully loaded with merchandise. It was found in the farm fields of Missouri. So cool! Even had French perfume which they have tried to reproduce. My kids have done brewery tours, indoor skydiving. Not I though.
Hope you find plenty to keep you busy! Welcome to Kansas!

Not late at all. This is a common thoroughfare for me so I'll definitely check out Gage Park the next time I'm passing through Topeka. Thanks!

Place to hide in Wichita?

We're passing through Wichita in the next week or 2 and have a couple of boxes to hide.
My mom started a Chisholm Trail series and when she died we found all the boxes ready to hide in her letterboxing stash.

Where would you recommend?
We found Chisholm Creek park on the map but it's so hard to tell.

That park looks like it has many great places to hide. I'd stay away from children's playgrounds and campgrounds and try to get off the beaten path a bit.
Thank you for doing this for your mom. What a wonderful tribute.

I have been going to Wichita all my life to visit family and there are many good parks and cemeteries, museums and churches, a great zoo with a large park. The park you speak of has a nature center. and just west of that park is Dr. Glen Dey Park and the K-96 Fishing Park. I would use satellite view on google maps to check out tree cover etc. We need to go through Wichita one more time the end of July to pick up the last of our reasons to visit so you will have a couple guaranteed hunters :)
