Usually you have to let people know you're in there. The chances of two people just stumbling into each other at any given time is pretty low! But a post on the message board or the Billboard widget can usually get a few people in there for a quick, impromptu chat. You might have to wait 5 or 10 minutes for someone to show up, but they usually do if you make an announcement.

It really sucks when an event is planned and everyone cancels. Dozens of hours of hard work that gets enjoyed by so few. I would have gone if it wasn't 3000 miles away.

(My event last year had 50+ signups and only 11 attended)

With everyone else dropped out, we put on masks and were able to go into the house without being worried about bumping into an asymptomatic shedder.....LCAB is a very gracious hostess and understood my concerns about protecting D.

I don't see a plant in your logbook with Planet Earth as location either. So you haven't actually saved it yet?

You clicked on the pencil in the Location box, clicked on edit, then put in a location ...then....change.....save?

That's me looking very quickly.....

As I have done in the past, I will be doing Santa Claus letters again this year. They are $6 each. Each letter is done on glossy photo paper and will come with an ornament enclosed.

If you are interested in sending a letter to a child, you can AQ mail me the child's information (Name, mailing address). You can make a payment via PAYPAL. When you order, I will provide the PAYPAL information to you. If you can't do PAYPAL, I will give you my address to send the funds. Once funds are received, letters will go out around December 10.

Hey friends!!
So my wife just started boxing with me, but we moved to Dallas-Fort Worth and there are so few boxes here. I've noticed that most Southern cities lack alot of boxes (originally from Ohio). We want to take a weekend trip just for boxing and exploring. For those that have been in the south a while, where is a good area/city that a weekend can be spent on letterboxing and learning new things about the city.

Thanks in Advance!

Hey Galaxy Guardian,

Welcome to Texas. The first thing you really have to know is that Texas has an Annual Letterbox event (TALE) that takes place in different areas. This year it is just outside Tyler, Texas and is happening Saturday 5 March. It would be fun to meet you! https://www.atlasquest.com/showinfo.php?eventId=4450

I'm going to let others chime in, But if you do searches on almost any other big city or state park, you will find lots of letterboxing opportunities. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the plethora of letterboxes around Bastrop, TX.

Again, welcome!

Don't forget to check LBNA website. I do think you may find some listed there that are not on AQ... Just in case.

On your way toward Austin don’t miss some good boxes at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco. It’s not far off Interstate 35.

Howdy Galaxy Guardian, and welcome to TX! I will second Mosaic Butterfly's suggestion about attending TALE as a way to meet fellow boxers and find many in the process, both in the park and in places on the way.

I'm surprised you say there are few boxes in the Dallas area, since when I look on AQ and LBNA I see a bunch. Now they might not all still be there, but many have been found in recent years and even if you come up empty you will still get to explore the areas they are located and thus learn more about your new home. Before traveling too far, I would pick a few interesting spots within 50 miles and enjoy the day. Also, you could plan on placing some if you think there aren't enough out there.

Here is the link to LBNA, where many clues can only be found (including mine):

Have fun exploring!

Let me third that. unfortunately we live too far away to make it often but the time we did attend it was fantastic. All events are fun but those guys really know how to have a good time! if at all possible, put it on your 'must do' list!

I totally agree with Silver Eagle. On everything he said... especially LBNA. But if you just want to take a road trip and go somewhere Austin is it IMHO. If you can't have fun in Austin I just don't know if you're able. It's young, eclectic and vibrant... dare I say hipster. And don't even get me started about the food... delicious!

S.E. You are quite right. Atlasquest in DFW, most have come up missing or "Unknown". LBNA has came up with some to add to our collection. It was kind of astonishing being from Cincinnati where 1 cemetery has over 250 with over 750 in just the downtown then coming to dfw thinking more people, more boxes, but was kind of shell shocked at the lack of activity atleast on the AQ side.
Happy Juneteenth/West Virginia Day!

Since last year June 19th is now a federal holiday. With that falling on Sunday makes today the observed holiday. Enjoy it if you get it.

However, in West Virginia Juneteenth was celebrated on Friday June 17th this year. The issue being June 20th is West Virginia Day. The anniversary of the birth of the state in 1863. So today is a rare day when the banks and post office are off for a state holiday.

Next year it should work out that we will have a three-day work week with the double holiday!

We spent Juneteenth at Harpers Ferry (the location of John Browns raid). We also nabbed our first West Virginia letterbox while we were there, which seems very fitting being so close to West Virginia Day.

My daughter Tina and I will be caravanning to Alberta Canada, with time in TN, Missouri, the Dakotas, WY, Yellowstone, and Montana with the final destination in the Canadian Rockies. We leave August 14 in separate cars and return around the 23rd of September. If any boxers along the route would be willing to share a driveway or property for HIP Camping, we have not made reservations in all our stops and still looking for spots to car camp. I will be letterboxing and she will be hiking. There are quite a few stops that I could not find boxes on Atlas Quest. I don't carve, but I certainly wouldn't mind doing some planting on your behalf if you have some boxes that you want planted. I don't have time to set up stamps in boxes so they would have to be ready to plant. Let me know. Candy
