If anyone knows of any letterboxes in the Philippines and could point me in the direction of the clues, that would be awesome.

In the vain of Ryan's Request to make it our new year's resolution to plant one in all the countries, I had the opportunity to plant on in the Philippines. If you'd like, check it out:

Wow! I didn't know there would be any letterboxes in the Philippines anytime so soon! =)

I noticed it was listed as a mystery box. Did you need me to add a new city to the AQ database? What is the nearest city supposed to be?

You know Ryan, quite frankly I have no idea. They call everything around here Manila. Let me get back to you on that one after I do a little research.

You know, the City IS Tagaytay City, which we have listed as the State. Here is the full address:
Calamba Road, BGY Iruhin Central Tagaytay City

Your advice would be appreciated on how to make this not a mystery

We are going to Grand Cayman in 3 weeks and plan on planting one there. I dont know how to add an international box, I was going to ask for help when i actually got it planted and had written clues. I dont see it in the list of countries though and I suspect thats where i need to begin.

You're probably looking under the wrong name. Check for "Cayman Islands". The country code used on Atlas Quest is CY. =)

Ryan -

I fixed this by the way, just now. I bow down to wikipedia, where yesterday I looked up GG Allin's country CD, and today I found the exact location of Taal volcano.

By the way, it is very rare that the owner of a free website lends this much assistance and is involved on a level that you are. I will be buying a premiuim membership as soon as I return from the Philippines in two weeks. Thanks for everything!

Hey Looky there its right there where it should be. Is everything else the same to add it as a plant? Do I follow the same directions?

Make sure you have the city right, I don't know about the Cayman's, but Philippines is tricky.

Pretty much. City names can sometimes be tricky for international destinations since the locals might call it a different name than us English folks do. Usually, I tried to support our English-version of the city names rather than local names if I could, but I wasn't always able to distinguish between the two. There are aren't a whole lot of "cities" where you're going, so I think AQ only supports all of about a dozen or so for that country!

And for certain countries where I don't expect a lot of letterboxing activities (Iran, anyone?), I deliberately did not add all of the cities I found information for to help keep the database small and fast. No sense supporting cities that will likely never get used. So I only supported the largest few hundreds towns and ignored the rest. Consequently, for some countries, if a certain city isn't supported, I can add it manually as needed. All English-speaking countries and major tourist traps I supported every city I could find information about. It's the non-English-speaking countries and places where tourists rarely go that don't get as much support.

Mr. Yuk,

Is this box still there? I noticed someone attempted to find it last month. I'll be traveling to the Philippines soon and would like to find it!

I sent you a private message. That attempt was not really an attempt. Get back to me if you need anything.

May be visiting in June or July for a few weeks, my husband's family...
If I get a chance.....
Will try to plant boxes in Manila area, Cebu, and Dapitan City, Mindinao...

Trick is to find people to keep an eye on them for me....

Thinking local tour guides and hotel managers might .... If I do, will let you know.

Does anyone in those areas actually letterbox? I could barely find geocaches in Manila, most were micro sized or virtuals. Definitely needs to be at high traffic tourist areas. Anyone who's been to Manila knows traffic is so bad it takes hours to cross the city. So travelling to find a letterbox could be pretty nerve-wracking...

My husband knows the manager of Shangri-La Resort in Cebu. If we go there, we will ask her to keep one at the hotel...thisis a 5 star resorrt, people from all over stay there. So might be a nice place to start off letterboxing...

Might even be able to swing a discount for letterboxers... :)

Oh! I so wish that discount existed a few months ago! We stayed there a while ago and loved it. It would be a great place for letterboxes.

No, no one here letterboxes and the armed guards all over the place have dissuaded me from planting anything while living here. That and the fact that if anyone finds it, it will probably be blown up by the bomb squads. Ha!

Just checking in again... Philippines trip coming up in June. If we stay at a resort where we know the manager, we will leave a box behind, probably indoors. Not sure where else we would find a good spot...
Come and look for it!
