We are new letterboxers (and just got handheld GPS devices so we can try geocaching). We're planning a family trip to Morocco in June, and hope to place a letterbox.

I was there a few years ago (before I knew about letterboxing) What cities will you visit? Hope I'm not being nosey - but what prompted a visit there? When I went, my husband stayed home with the kids. I hope to go back soon and take him with me!

Hi Mona,

My husband is from Morocco. He grew up in Casablanca.
I've been over there a few times myself.
Fantastic, fascinating place.

So what cities were you in?

We spent most of our time in Fes, a couple of nights in Rabat and a couple of nights in Casablanca with day trips to Meknes and Volubilis. The people that I went with had lived there for a number of years (in Fes) so we were very lucky to have several meals in homes. It made the trip SO much more meaningful. I'm not a super adventerous eater, so I was a little worried before we went. No need - I've never had such amazing food!!! The one or two meals we ate in restaurants weren't that great, but the home cooked stuff was so good!! I get hungry thinking about it! My friends go back every year, so hopefully I'll be able to go again before TOO long. I'll look forward to logging a find in your box!!!

The box over there isn't mine. But I do look forward to logging a find myself someday.

Oh man the food...

=09

I'm glad you were able to eat in a home. It is a world of difference. It's a shame that you can't get the same experience in a resturant. But home-cooked Moroccan food? <sigh>
I do some cooking myself. I make a pretty good egg and meatball stew. (Kefta wa beid)
But nothing like my mother and sisters-in-law.

If you ever get a chance to go back and go to Marrakech. And you're feeling a bit adventerous. Try the "baboosh"...Trust me

;-)

We'll spend time in Rabat, Fes, Erfoudm Ouarzazate, Marrakesh and Essaouira. We're very excited about it--and you guys are making me hungry with all this talk of food! LOL

Rabat, Fes, Erfoudm, Ouarzazate, Marrakesh and Essaouira

I haven't been to Erfoudm, but the rest are gems.

I don't like using the word "exotic" anymore.
But Fes...wow...it really is like stepping into an Indiana Jones movie.

Pack warm clothes for Ouarzazate. I don't know what time of the year you're going. I was there in April. And the wind off the mountians was freezing

Marrakesh, well, it can be a little ticky-tacky touristy. But it adds to the fun.
Watch out for the snake charmers. Everybody expects a tip.

And have lots of fun!

I just got back from Morocco the other day.
And I planted a new box.
Look for my "Atlas Quest in the Atlas".
