So...did everyone get the email? 20 sites this year! Quite a few repeats, but some new ones... What does everyone think? DevilinDog—do you want to do another tracker?

I can set up the tracker - no problem.
If anyone else wants to do it, just let me know. I don't mind passing it on.

here's the email I got:
Good Evening to my STL hiking friends-

Hope you are all doing well! I wanted to be sure that you check out the Sky’s the Limit information on the DEEP website tomorrow March 20, 2021 as we “Ring in Spring” with the release of the 2021 STL Hiking Challenge information. This years theme is Bridges, Footbridges and Boardwalks.

https://portal.ct.gov/DEEP/State-Parks/Skys-the-Limit

Please be aware that the STL website will be updated on Monday to reflect specific information regarding dogs being allowed in certain shoreline park areas during specified times of the year. Visit the Responsible Recreation page on the DEEP website under section entitled “Hiking responsibly with dogs” for more information.

I know! I went to plant a letterbox and every cop car in Oceanside was parked right next to "my" spot. I gave them the stinkeye but they weren't impressed....

I have not. A while back they said they were going out the next week or so. Last week I emailed again & got a response that looked like it was sent by accident. It looked like it was part of a word—maybe she was trying to set it as a reminder? Doesn’t make it much of an incentive to send them all these photos!

Kristen said they will resend packets to anyone who did not receive their 2020 certificate, etc. I suggest sending them a quick email if you're still waiting.

If anyone wants to look for older boxes, this is the map you will want to use. Note that it shows Warbler Trail and the old trail colors that the older clues refer to. Also shows stone walls, bridges, and stream crossings!!

https://www.ctwoodlands.org/sites/default/files//trails_day_documents/Map%20-%20OSP.pdf

You're welcome.

Well that explains a few things on my last trip. I wasn't looking for old boxes, but it did seem like something was off when I got to the Warbler Trail area. It's been a few years since I've been there.

The DEEP map for the state park across the river, Indian Well, is terribly wrong, with the Paugussett Trail having been significantly relocated twice since the old Calvin & Hobbes series was planted. The park map shows the first relocation, but not the second, and doesn't show the new blue/red Beach Access Trail. The City of Shelton Conservation Commission website has the correct map.

Meant to share this earlier:

The 2022 Sky’s the Limit Hiking Challenge will be released on the First Day of Spring which is March 20, 2022. As of that date the STL website will be updated to reflect all the 2022 locations. The theme for this coming STL is “Hidden Gems-Best Kept Secrets in CT DEEP State Parks and Forests”.

Supposedly certificates and medallions have gone out. I have not received mine - and she said she would resend - still nothing.

I will not be organizing letterboxing related to the Sky challenge this year. I hope someone else picks up the task. I am happy to plant a box or two.

I love the new theme - always good to learn about a bit more about a park. After seven years there's no way to avoid repeat parks! Happy to see a new twist. Seems to be fewer photos which makes me happy!

I have a suggestion regarding this year's Sky challenge. I organized the tracker for a bit, but I just started a new job & life is a little too crazy. My thought: I'm happy to start a tracker, but I don't really want to go through the whole assigning sites routine. How about I open an unlimited tracker, and that way if people do the hikes and are inspired to plant, they can do so & add the box to the tracker for others who are working on the SKY hikes? So they can be named Sky 2022... but there may or may not end up being a full set... and there may be more than one box at some locations? I know I'm going to focus first on sites that I've never visited and sites from past years that I missed! And, I confess, I still need to plant a couple of Ducs...
