Ok- that is actually great questions.

You can hold the gouges both high and low. What I am talking about is actually the knife part of the blade. It is cut at a different angle. I have not looked to closely (need to) I would say a 1 degree angle. Which makes a thin cutting area. So you can cut shallow and deep with the same precision. The flat blade can be used as a cutting blade like a knife (except easier to hold) or it can be used like a gouge that is one sided.

I have wood carving gouges and knifes here, they don't hold the same. When I use them they it at an angle I don't care for. Also it has been years since I used them regularly. I can't respond to that anymore.

The set I have used it remarkable. I am a knife carver most of the time, but these tools may change the way I carve. Just like every tool or carving block it takes time to learn.

So I need a cushion for this. It was 655 and change for 100 slabs. Rather than adding .20 I need to add more. To cover damaged or lost slabs. So I need everyone to bear with me. So the true cost is 6.75 a slab. I need to collect an extra .25 a slab. So I will sell for $7 each. This will help off set the loss cost. So if I have to send another 5 to Florida because of an issue I am not out lots of money. I can off set it. I know that the extra quarter won't cover the entire cost, but it add responsibility to myself too, making sure I treat every slab well and tape it up good. Hope there aren't too many objections to this. I just need to watch my $$$ amount.

That being said. If you want to come see me. I will give it to you at 6.55 each. No tape and no charge of damage replacement. :). Plus I get to meet you!

Eden and I have discussed a cross country trip with the kids for years...still want to make it happen, but time and money always impact when. At some point it will occur and a swing by your area would certainly be on the trip planner :)

I will send a check your way today to cover five slabs. I am getting more and more practice with this stuff daily!

Yeah, would love to have you!

Hope you know. I just got the order in. Took longer than normal, I am guessing vacation or something as she always gets back so fast. The conversation is lost in translation. Either way she will start putting it together Friday and sat. And then ship. So hopefully it will be here soon. I usually order Monday and have it by the following Tuesday or Wednesday and mail it out that day or the following depending on time of delivery.

Oh, wow! It's that fast. Here I thought I may have to carve on backs of my stamps.

I have not problems with the extra 25 cents. Ordering like this is already saving us so much money. It's great!! Thank you!

Hey thanks for that! I hate adding a charge, I feel like I'm taking what I should not, but I'm not a vendor so the lost and broken is what I am struggling with.

I do think it is like 40 dollars cheaper to have a big order sent somewhere else. So if someone else wants to do this- I'm ok with that. My first quote was 615, but changed to 655 because of location.

I'm flexible.

My order is being held in customs for inspection. So it looks delayed. Crud! I received a sweet email from the seller and it told me that my order is in new city York for a custom inspection. Expect delays. Apologize for stuck.

So I got on dhl tracking and looked. Sure enough New York customs. I'm not worried probably add a day or 2.

Just want to communicate too you all

Is in omaha, but the box is damaged. I received a call letting me know that they would be delivering it as the contents don't look damaged. Depending on what happened - I am thinking by description that a couple pieces might not be car able on the back side. Which is no big deal. So I will keep you updated. Only one of the 2 is damaged.
So I tried it...

I played with the SLQ today. See my new profile photo? :)

I was a disappointed about running out of pink but I have to say that the SLQ will work....practice...but I'm excited.

My lines are thicker than normal because I was having a hard time seeing my cuts. I did ink over the image but still it was harder see than using the pink. I also found that it doesn't work very well to go back and try to thin up the lines but maybe I need to get my tools sharpened again.

Looks great. I haven't gotten the knack for the very thin lines yet. I keep trying. I do find it hard to go back & thin some of the carving materials. I think my biggest problem is my eyes--even with my lighted magnifier. I have a hard time distinguishing depth.

So as fate would have it....

My son threw up on my couch today (yeah I know TMI), I had a blanket on the couch so it did not get the couch. So Off he went to the bath. I happened to be upstairs cleaning him up. So they knocked, I yelled I'm here I'm here. The left a sticky note on the door saying they will be back tomorrow. I opened the door as they were pulling away. So there you have it. It will be here tomorrow I only have one confirmed order that has been paid for. So if you are interested please send me a notice. $7.00 a slab plus shipping. Normally I get these out ASAP (however, I have a sick kid so it might be one extra day- apologies.)

A flatrate envelope was returned to me. Seriously. It was all still taped up, but the address was completely covered in some black, brown sticky goop. I tried to clean it off, but I will repackage. I need to know who these belong to. I can get them in the mail today. If you ordered 10 and have not received I need to know. If not I won't be able to mail until Friday or sat (I think the po is closed those days).

Transfer

Hi all!
I was just curious what method of transferring are you using? I tried transferring an image for the first time last night and it didn't take too well. At all. I have a laser jet and use acetone. The sample image was transferred so perfectly, now if only I can learn to transfer like that =)

Part of it depends on which carving material you are using. I have used pink in the past with good results, but the last 2 didn't work so well. I usually just trace right on the printed image and rub onto the material. Unless it's really detailed, that always works well for me.

I use acetone and toner copied images, but I am going to try parchment again. I get wonderful crisp images with acetone, but I saw the parchment transfer (which I am terrible at) so I will be trying again.

I've just received my first slab of slq. I've always used the pink stuff and the transfer was so-so at best. Now I just have to learn the best way to transfer to slq.

This seems to be a popular topic.

If you head over here:

I outline how you can get a perfect transfer from a laser printer using parchment paper. No chemicals, no smells. :)

I can't imagine that it would. The toner doesn't bond to the parchment paper. But if you run a finger across it before you transfer to the rubber, it will smear the image.
