You all are my inspiration
Board: Weight Watching Boxers

So I have to admit I am a lurking reader on this board. Well not anymore. I am joining in the fight to get fit. Notice I did not say Skinny. If that comes along with it fine, but I want to be healthier. Mot fit and able to do all the things I once could without difficulty. I have lost a lot of strength and mobility since I had a horrible car accident in January of 2005.

I have been very sedentary since then. That is one of the reasons I took a shine to LB'ing. It got me out of the house and back outside with the kids. Now that it is 7 years later, I need to get off my duff and Get healthy again.

I read about your ups and downs and am realizing that its ok to not lose something every week. Hang in there, and don't give up. I know I can count on you to be there when I need to vent, cry, and share my joys. I know that because I already read it here. I thank you for making it OK to try. even if I fail. I know that you are here.

Thank YOU!
~Aurora

Welcome!!!! So glad you are joing us!! The "Ups" are awesome but even when there are "downs" it's always great to know that you can get the support you need here. I really like this diagram about the path to success: http://www.babyboomerslaughandlearn.com/?p=2489
It's a reminder that the road to our goals may not be easy but we can still get there!!!

Hi-- I lurk a lot, too. I'm also focused on "healthy" rather than "skinny". Of course I'd like skinny to happen....
I found that if I focus on healthy, then I can see success every day. I know that sounds kind of cliche, but it really helps me since weight loss is not an instant-gratification thing. I know I can go to bed at night knowing I achieved a goal of making healthy choices that day, which is most important anyway. The fact that meeting that goal over and over again will lead to weight loss is just a bonus.
Glad to see you here!

Thanks you guys, You just confirmed what I already know. You are Great!!! You made me smile. I found out today that If I join Weight Watchers and attend 75% of the meetings, my health insurance will pay half the cost. I will have to commit to either 13 weeks or 18 weeks. Why not join if they are going to pay half. Let the journey begin.

Oh and I have to share that I did get off my duff today and did a 30 minute cardio workout. I started out with what I thought was going to be just fun. I turned on the Wii Fit and did some hula hooping and stepping. But after about the first 10 minutes I was getting warm and could feel the heart rate getting up there. I did about 10 minutes of the Yoga stretches and that was SO HARD. Then for a cool down I took the dog for a brisk cold 20 minute walk. I feel tired but good.

Thanks for letting me share.

Updating...Week 1 included a potluck at work and not so much exercising. I did walk a few days of the week, but I want to be walking everyday.

I have been doing Wii fit and what I thought was going to be the easy way out, is not! I find myself winded and laughing because how can some silly game get my heart beating like this?

I find it fun enough to do again the next day. I have been averaging only 30 minutes each day.
I missed yesterday, so I weighed in today.

Week one: down 1.8 lbs. Not a great start but I will take it.

Sounds like a great start to me! Slow and steady really does win this race. Keep it up!

Absolutely a great start!! A healthy weight loss, likely to be maintained is 1/2 to 2 pounds per week.

Be proud of your accomplishments this past week!
