Carrying Case for stamping on the trail

Has anyone else [besides the person I got the idea from] made a carrying case for your stamping in process on the trail? That you can flip open and use on your lap as a table, like with foam or something inside to hold all your stuff in place? If so, I would love to know how you did it and what materials were used.

Check with Dezert Ratty -- I think it was she who had such a cool case. Now, hers also came from a yard sale, but if she were to send you (or post) pictures of it, it might help get the creative juices flowing...

I was thinking about creating a 'lap-pad' type thing for just that purpose. Sort of a cross between a tool-roll-up and a folding case. At the very least, I plan to get pop a couple of small boards on a piano hinge to make a sturdy platform that is easy to transport. Just like you mentioned, several of my recent finds were forever from any physical structure.

I made one from a zippered portable DVR case from Case Logic. It zips open flat. I sewed velcro inside on one side and velcroed my most used stamp pads (using self stick velcro), upside down. When I grab a pad, the lid stays and it's in my hand, ready for inking. Also, if it dries out and I replace it, I can use the old lid.

It holds my sig stamp and logbook nicely. Doesn't hold my markers; so this is for most boxes, but not all. My markers are at the top of a small zippered pouch in my pack, so I can grab them if I need to.

The talented and lovely Sewsobizzy has such an animal. It's a wooden cigar box thingy, about a 10X10 square. She opens it up on the trail, all the stamping supplies stay in bottom and her log goes on the other side where she inks up and stamps. Then she inks up the stamp again in the appropriate colors for the rest of us.

MO, first off, I love your new sig stamp :-)

I don't have anything to snazzy, but I keep a small cutting board in my backpack. My backpack, also has a stool built into it and I use the small cutting board as a table top.

I can't imaging stamping without the cutting board, it's been very helpful in so many ways.

I use a metal engineer's field case. Its a shallow box about 13"x7"x1-1/4"deep. It comes with a hinged metal lid. It holds my siggy stamp, small ink pads, marker pens, etc in the box and flat paper towels for cleanup and a cushioned stamping surface clipped on the inside of the lid. I've had it since I started letterboxing but darned if I can remember where I got it. It has worked great for me.
