Attention Boxers!
Board: Letterbox Chatter

Today on Facebook, I just joined "Atlas Quest Junkies". In the discussion section and under Attention Boxers I found this disturbing blog:

In several sections of this blog, more than one Letter boxer is named in the blog and has had their box Removed.

Wonderful, Forest Defender managed to spawn.
Probably my fault, I shouldn't have dedicated that LTC to them. 8((

Maybe our clues should not be readable to just anyone.

Old news? Sorry, I just read about it. But I see the blog was posted around April of this year.

It's a repeat. Same philosophy, same knee-jerk reaction, same area, but my guess is that it's a new perp. Writing style doesn't sound the same, and I don't remember the rating system.
IIRC, the last blog went away after some links were posted to cases where charges had been filed for the destruction of approved and permitted plants. Not sure, though, it's been about a year.

It's not old news to everyone, thanks for the info. Do you know what part of the country it is?

No, that's the same blog, not a different one.
Fortunately, no copycats yet!

Sometimes it's a GOOD thing to be wrong!! Wasn't as long ago as I thought, either, but by the time I spotted that it was too late to edit my poor estimate.
Does look like some new material, though.... didn't notice any photos of well maintained official trails labeled as "social" trails.

Hmmm, I don't seem to remember posting anything on fb about AQ. Where did you get your information? I merely mentioned that someone ON a blog was destroying letterboxes and geocaches.

I didn't think any was wrong about joining a group on Facebook that has to do with AQ Junkies, am I wrong or are you just jealous? If I am wrong for joining, then there are close to 1000 other junkies in the wrong too.
AQ groups VS FB AQ groups

I thought that was funny too.
I'm too much of an AQ junkie to get off AQ long enough to post on FB!
But it does seem to be a growing trend. I've noticed event sign ups on FB (they are listed on AQ but also on FB, and sometimes the sign ups are just on FB). I noticed groups on FB that mimic the boards here.
I don't really understand the advantage of this. When people sign up on AQ for an event, I can push a button and get a list of all the PT's. I can't do that if they sign up on FB. If they have a letterboxing topic they can post on AQ and I can see all the recent topics here on all the boards. On FB I have to search all the different groups.
So what is the advantage of having duplicate FB groups?

Probably the novelty of it.

This way a serious FB junkie can avoid learning how to maneuver around on AQ. I agree they miss out, but they probably don't realize it.
On the other hand, maybe they're just hiding from you. 8))

If I had to guess, some people probably like the idea of being able to post somewhere that's not within my area of influence. =) It might also have the appearance of being "friendlier," but that'll only last until the first flame war starts.
I can't keep up with all of the posts on AQ (just selected threads and boards), so I don't think I'll be adding Facebook groups to my regular reading list anytime soon. It really is a largely Tortuga free place to post! =)

May just be that some folks are on FB all the time anyways. FB is always open on my computer, like most of my class mates (we exchange notes about upcoming exams, changes in scheduling and plans, etc.) so it isn't unusual for our hobbies to be 'disseminated' on there as well (ie fantasy football, farmerville, scrabb-ly, etc.)
I post that I went letterboxing...and have recruited friends in other states to my new addiction, but I send them to AQ because this seems more efficient for putting everything together.
